1. Tower Storage
Finding clever ways to add storage is key to creating a user-friendly bathroom. For this California bathroom makeover, designer Bonnie Bagley Catlin of Signature Designs Kitchen & Bath added storage towers on the countertop for easy access to items such as skin care products, right at eye level. It’s a concept similar to pullout spice racks flanking a range in a kitchen.

2. Pendants Instead of Sconces
If wall space is limited in your bathroom, consider dropping pendant lights from the ceiling rather than trying to squeeze in sconces. The design team at City Homes added a pair of stylish pendant lights to this Minneapolis bathroom, freeing up space for a larger mirror above the floating vanity.

3. Supersize Niches
A shower niche adds storage for bathing products without taking up too much space. But if you find most shower niches too small, there’s no reason you can’t extend them, especially vertically between the wall studs.
Designer Gianna Marzella of Gia Mar Interiors added an oversize shower niche to this New York City bathroom that not only creates extra storage but also draws the eye upward to make the space appear larger.

4. Above the Bowl
The wall space above the toilet is an area that’s often underutilized in bathrooms. Many people opt for a framed painting or photograph above the toilet, but if you’re looking for more function, let this Detroit bathroom makeover by Jane Henderson Interior Design inspire you.
Henderson added a storage rack that can hold up to four folded towels above the toilet, within reach of the shower threshold. The matte black finish complements similar finishes in the space.

5. Bold in Black
Black-framed shower enclosures have been trending in bathroom design for some time now. And this bold bathroom makeover in New Zealand is a great example of why.
The thin black frame around the glass shower enclosure provides a stark contrast to the vivid pink wall tiles that wrap the bathroom. The design team added a black-framed mirror and black fixtures throughout the room to complete the stylish look.

6. Go for the Gold
Gold, brass and bronze finishes add stylish warmth and shine to a bathroom. The orange tones mean the finish also coordinates well with blue, a complementary color to orange and a classic color that works well in bathrooms. So it’s no surprise that the most popular bathroom photo of spring 2020 features gold-finished fixtures and hardware with heavy doses of blue.
The owners of this San Francisco bathroom reached out to designer Lital Ben of Baron Construction & Remodeling on Houzz and coordinated design details by sharing photos on the platform. The result of their collaboration includes gold-finished pulls that pop against the dark blue vanity and a shower door lined with gold-finished trim.

Thanks for the ideas. I won’t do glass doors until I can afford to replace the hideous “biscuit” colored plastic tub and surround!
I'm ok with "Master" being sidelined in favour of "Principle" - over and out with male/control issues, thanks.
And re: pendant lights - maybe I'm klutzy, but I'm usually thinking of other things while I towel off my hair or put on a sweatshirt over my head, and the pendant lights in a medium size or smaller bathroom are prime targets for disaster. I think they always look fantastic, but I wonder if they're going to be on people's "wish I hadn't" list.
I have memories of tired pink & black that worry me but this one was pink & black well updated.
