In his own words: “I love helping people realize their dreams in the home they want to live in.”

Your dream home should be a special place that reflects your style and taste, says builder Deron Stadler of Evolutionary Homes. To achieve that result, he works with his clients to be certain that what he and his team build meets all of their expectations in terms of both style and function. “Every home is unique and I want to make sure everything works for you,” he says.
A love of building. Stadler started learning about home repairs at an early age. “My family owned rental properties and my dad was a very handy guy who taught us to fix everything ourselves,” he says. Stadler worked in construction-related jobs as a teenager. Knowing he wanted to continue to work with his hands, he earned a degree in construction management from Brigham Young University. “I’ve been building homes ever since,” he says. Stadler and his partners opened Evolutionary Homes in 2015.
Drilling down on details. Stadler starts the design process by mentally walking the homeowners through every room to learn how they want to use the space. “This is not something that most people will do more than once, so you need to get all their thoughts out,” he says. Layouts and function are the priorities, he says, but the team also focuses on style and beautiful details.

1. Prioritize Your Lifestyle
Design a space that functions for how you plan to use it. This San Antonio home’s kitchen was designed for entertaining, with an open flow to the adjacent living and dining areas. “They wanted it to be spacious and clean,” Stadler says.
The oversize island functions as both an informal dining spot and a buffet when entertaining, with plenty of access on all sides. The appliances blend into the closed cabinetry, which features minimal hardware or push access, giving the homeowners the sleek feel they sought. “They didn’t want everything on display,” Stadler says.

2. Create a Flow
Eliminate visual barriers to open up your space. At this same home, the patio is seamlessly connected to both the main living area and a family room. “Large sliders open up into the yard,” Stadler says.
The patio sections are purposely designed to echo the indoor entertaining areas. There are spots for relaxing, a large table for dining and a small outdoor kitchen. There’s also a game room across the way. In between the home and game room lies what Stadler calls the “play pool” and its adjacent spa. “It’s meant for relaxing, not serious swimming,” he says.

3. Show Off Your Style
Put your personal style on display. For the owners of this San Antonio home, aesthetics were key. “They wanted it to be a showcase,” he says.
The center island with a Brazilian granite top and waterfall edges is the striking centerpiece of the room. It’s paired with an oversize range hood formed from a single piece of copper. Other details include floating shelves and translucent glass-front cabinets to show off special pieces. “They didn’t need much storage,” Stadler notes. Final touches include clear-coated cabinets that provide a contrast between the island, the hood and the 24-by-24-inch ceramic tiles on the floor.
