At first it seemed expensive to me. But I spent $22k in an expensive area, and could have easily spent $10k-$15k more. $22k was with me spending a lot of time ordering everything, often on sale. I used standard rather than high end fixtures and tile, etc. I custom designed and made my own lighting for much less than it would have cost to buy. I had a walk-in shower, so no shower door expense, nor did I have a tub. I could easily have spent a LOT more with more expensive tile, higher end fixtures and windows, a tub (if I had room), not to mention having designer/ architect/ general contractors involved rather than doing that all myself. So working through all that I see the cost is not out of line.

For those of you shocked by the price who want to keep costs much lower. Do a lot of the legwork yourself, as I did, and even as much of the actual work yourself as you can. Keep the same layout. And hope you don't uncover mold or structural problems which will blow your budget out of the water.

Very nice, glad the homeowners are tickled with the results. I find the hostility from the contractors/etc. misplaced. I find it quite interesting reading the comments with various prices for remodels. My mother updated two small bathrooms in Texas with high end materials: custom concrete tile, clawfoot tub, etc, and together the price was still under 25k. I enjoy seeing the regional price differences.

I realize that knocking out a wall and adding additional plumbing is an expense, but that price for that size bathroom seems excessive. I have a 3000 square foot home that needs total renovation. Guess I should just gut it and start new!
