When we moved into our old farmhouse, the laundry was in the kitchen so my husband moved it into the basement. The basement stairs were STEEP and the basement was unconditioned (hello, frozen line-dried clothing) so I was thrilled when we remodeled and added a bathroom with stackable laundry units on the 2nd floor by our bedroom. Since we really only go upstairs to go to bed (we both work full time) I ALWAYS forget about the laundry, so it sits in the washer (stinky) or dryer (wrinkly) for a while, and when I do remember it, I have to go upstairs and fold clothes by myself, leaving the 'party' aka hubs and child downstairs. So now I totally see the advantage to having it in the kitchen... I can never win!

I currently have a laundry room but in my next house, I want multiple laundry closets so I can have different places to do laundry. I really want either a laundry closet in my bathroom or behind my closet with a window. And I'd want the kids to have one in the hallway. Having a small set in the kitchen is okay for kitchen rags and towels but I def. wouldn't want it for clothes.

I'm about to move back to a smaller open plan house (1200sf) where the laundry appliances are adjacent to the kitchen (mid living and dining), I really missed them being handy, there is no forgetting the laundry and easy to distribute out from the house center, however besides the end of cycle chime, it's worthy to invest in quiet (and pretty) machines and surrounding organization.
