Squared, simple and perfectly proportioned, tapered columns add Craftsman-style beauty to porches, porticoes and interiors
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that we bought our house because it has a front porch with square-tapered Craftsman columns. Even though they're wrapped in aluminum and have seen better days, their proportions are so perfect, they make me weak in the knees.
Craftsman style columns are handsome, historical and simple in style. Essential in defining Craftsman or Arts and Crafts–style homes, the squared columns are often paired with other bungalow characteristics, such as deep, overhanging front porches, exposed rafters, gabled rooflines and built-in bookcases.
