I disagree with the idea of "don't use the flash." As a real estate photographer, we use flash a lot, it depends on the way to use it, the point is to keep the natural lights looks natural, that's all.

flash up to the ceiling is good... but bouncing off of walls is glaring, and not attractive on-line (where the buyers are). Tripod and timer are the way to go...

Agree with Julie Webster - if you have to use flash, point it at the ceiling for better results. My recommendation is to use as much natural light as possible. Also, the idea of combining natural light with artificial light is right on point. As a professional photographer, I do not recommend the use of flash unless the shot requires it. Most real estate and interior photography projects don't require the use of flash.
