A few years ago for my grandchldren's crafts/play table I just purchased an Ikea Dinette Table (with a drawer and short drop-leaf) and shortened the legs. I coupled it with a set of four chldren's chairs and decoratively painted all the pieces. The work surface is larger than most conventional kid's tables (and what Ikea carried for children), and it was cheaper than having one custom made. When extended, it seats at least six small children comfortably. (One at each end, two on each side.)
P.S: You might luck in and find one in their 'scratch 'n dent 'n damaged' section that you can recycle. The one I had got was plain finished and slightly marked but at the same time any table will do. Just cut down the legs and you might want to slightly round the corners off. :)
