The owners of this property in Needham, Massachusetts, hired Stucchi Landscape & Design to plan the backyard — including the pool — before they even bought the house. Granite coping surrounds the pool and hot tub, and stamped concrete has been used for the rest of the paving. A custom blend of ledgestone and ashlar thin stone veneer covers the front of the spa. A mix of trees, flowering shrubs, evergreens and grasses creates an intimate feeling and adds structure, color and texture to the landscape.

Designer Matt Barton of Copper Creek Landscaping created this mini retreat in Spokane, Washington, for a couple nearing retirement. The yard features a heated saltwater plunge pool that overlooks natural land. Hogwire fencing preserves the view.
The team had considered a more organic pool shape, but the rectangular design allowed for an automated safety cover and a simpler, lower-maintenance setup. The tiled gunite pool also includes a system that allows for quick water access in the event of a fire. Stained sand-washed concrete paving rounds out the space, complementing the rustic aesthetic while allowing the natural materials to pop.
