anniewslam, I too am so sorry. I have been meaning to write about what you're describing. I agree with your husband. You need to take the best care of yourself and focus on the people you love. If you don't want to get rid of your things, that's okay. Is the guilt you're feeling to do with knowing you need to get rid of things and not wanting to yet?

Something I pray daily is that my hands would be bound to the work God wants me to do and that is what I prayed for you—that you'll know where and for what you need to marshall your strength and what you can gratefully surrender to your good husband's care. I hope this helps and please let me know if you'd like to "talk" this through a little more.

Broke out laughing at the suggestion of making purses out of licence plates. I take stuff to Salvation Army every couple of months. A few years ago I made a dozen trips in a 2 week timeframe. I purge on an ongoing basis. Always have a cardboard box designated for donation items so that when I come across something, it just goes straight to the box. Now I must also admit my hoarding issue. It is sea shells. I have boxes and boxes and boxes of them and cannot part with any of them. Doubt that I will make purses out of them but I am going to do something creative with the them, I really am.

Missed this article first time around. I finally surrendered & called my favorite professional organizer; she's coming this weekend. In the meantime, I may download "The Gambler," which was one of my favorite songs (& one of the few I could play on the gee-tar back in the day!
