super important! Summer is drowning season. (also there's a typo: "Two men eventually pulled her off the drain, braking the drain in the process, but it was too late." ... should be "breaking")

As the new owner of a waterside cottage, with decks over the water, this is also very helpful information for me and my husband. At the moment, we have declared our cottage completely off limits to children while we figure out the correct solution for fencing and gating the decks for safety, yet still retaining water access for kayaks and beach assess for bucket and spade-ing. It is a huge responsibility that comes along with the delight of living literally on the water.

When we built our pool we sprung for the automatic cover because there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood and I couldn't live with myself if something happened to any of them when we were out of town. So the pool stays covered unless it's in use by us.
