I live in Santa Barbara, California, a southern-central coastal town about two hours north of Los Angeles. We are very fortunate to have avoided a fire this summer--and fingers are still tightly crossed as summer may well extend well into October.

This is the reason I want to move out of this state and far, far north as I am an autumn/winter girl. I itch for autumn and have been scouring Houzz and other sites for all those wonderful autumn-y things to try and make it come faster.

So I guess my way is to "window" shop but also to customize a small scene I found last week at the new HomeGoods store here, a small inexpensively made scene of two old homes with trees, ghosts, graves and so on. Painting them and adding dirt and putka pods and so on will keep me entertained for the next couple of weeks so tonight after work I am off to Michael's for paint and glue.

Sorry there are no pictures but I will dream on through everyone else's and re-tighten those fingers!

I can't say the 'F' word just yet.....I'm in denial. Summer can't be over.....we had frost till the last week of June! When summer arrived it was hot & dry causing the leaves to start turning yellow already. Our days are still warm & summer-ish, so I'm going to continue eating ice cream until I see the first flakes of you-know-what! Yesterday we took the ferry to Grand Manan, a Canadian island between the coast of Maine & the province of New Brunswick. Heaven! Picnicked on the beach, went beach combing, waded in the salty Bay of Fundy, listened to a chorus of gulls swarming the fishing boats, and yes, enjoyed our ice cream on the outdoor patio. Tomorrow we'll pick more beans from the garden, walk the dogs in the cool of the morning, & later get family together for a b'day b-b-q. And I bet we'll eat cake & ice cream!
