Mudrooms, like closets and kitchen pantries, appeal to the inner organizing nerd in all of us. They’re confined spaces, typically on the small side, that are dedicated to storage and show how we can sort, keep and display things in a pretty way. In reverse order, let’s look at the 10 most popular mudroom photos uploaded from July through September, as measured by the number of people who saved them to their Houzz ideabooks in that period.
10. Though mudrooms often feature built-in storage, it’s not essential, as we see in this East Hampton entry. The entry really showcases the magic in being intentional and thoughtful about every design decision you make, including the wall hook selection and how they’re arranged on the wall. When not used, these oversize wood pegs double as a wall art installation.

9. Here is another mudroom-style entry bench on a smaller scale. High-end details like a rich wood bench, oil-rubbed bronze hardware and other exposed wood detailing make the smaller unit special.

8. Not every home is equipped with a mudroom or a full-fledged foyer. If you have a hall or wall off the front door, you can mimic the look of a mudroom. This Cape Cod entry features the mudroom essentials, including a bench, wall hooks, concealed storage and storage boxes, while only taking up a portion of a wall.
7. The storage wall is an integral component in the mudroom, but there is not always room or an opportunity for a fully built-in unit. While this Pennsylvania entry features a built-in storage bench, you could also slide in a freestanding piece, hang wall hooks and install a shelf for a similar effect.

6. Unique wood details appear all over this Minneapolis home, including in this light-filled mudroom. Curved dividers along the bench provide hanging space for hats, bags and umbrellas without blocking the light-filled casement windows.
5. The fretwork on this entry bench is definitely more detailed than we typically see, allowing the rest of the entry bench to remain simple and clean. The geometric lines repeat themselves in the striped cushion and under-bench drawer pulls.
4. Herringbone-pattern brick floors make this New England mudroom stand out and also provide a resilient floor material for a room that stands up to dirt, snow, mud and more.

3. While beadboard typically offers more of a traditional Cape Cod look, this example of it in Austin, Texas feels very of the moment. The dark-painted wood and hexagonal floor tiles elegantly contrast the warm leather bench and pulls. The addition of leather cabinet pulls and boat cleat-inspired hooks add another inventive contemporary touch.
2. This more expansive mudroom also features built-in furniture with hooks, benches and shelves. The addition of storage drawers adds more organizational benefits. A sliding wood barn door opens to a walk-in laundry room.
1. This petite Massachusetts mudroom provides a comfy place to take a seat and stash shoes, hang bags and scarves and stow other outerwear in the bins above. The white-painted wood adds attractive contrast to the dark floor and complements the gray and white printed upholstery and boxes. Relying on the boxes and cushions for color and decorative interest makes it easier for the homeowners to change up the look if they want.

Here's my 'mudroom'. I do wash my mud boots off outside. There is a porch and a hose very close by to utilize. Floor is patterned concrete. Walls are white pine. Bench is from a monastery. There are 4 wall hooks for what ever coats I use frequently. There are two raincoats hanging. Apparently when I took this, it was the rainy winter season. Also have space for two hats to hang. I usually put my wool pull on hat and gloves on the bench.
Ha - Mine, too! BTW, does NH stand for New Hampshire? If so, I GET it...managing upstate New York winter gear requires an additional wing (aka the dining room)!
OK @Fontaine Dunn and @debnh and @misselthwaite all those who live north of the Red River...... I posted my SE Texas winter 'mudroom'...... I challenge to post yours! And no fair cleaning up before you take the pix. LOL
