For the most part this applies to me but for a different reason I don't really know what I'm doing! Also budget issues. The grass however is a different story, if its not mowed when neighbours think it should be they complain to the RM and you get a call threatening fines if not taken care of. Happened to my neighbour and my yard was the same I thought. So have to keep it mowed. I do rebel some and not bag the clippings!

I don't know how I missed this last summer, but I love the article. This is really inspiring. Like a few others I will maintain my little patch of mown lawn, but this sounds so much nicer than to say I "putter around" with gardening and makes my slow progress seem like more of a virtue.

I know this is a more environmentally friendly way to garden, but I live in the woods of the Deep South. Without mowing regularly, the native creatures take over. Which is adorable when you're talking about squirrels, birds, and bunnies; not so when you're sharing your yard with cottonmouths and six foot rattlesnakes.
