Warm Up a White Room with Wood
The holiday season might be full of reds, greens, and golds, but winter's unofficial color is white. A room done in the non-color doesn't have to feel as cold as a snowstorm, though. When paired with wood tones, white can be fresh, crisp, and even infused with a warm glow.
A simple wood mantle breaks up these white walls, doing almost as much to add warmth as the fireplace housed within.
Exposed beams provide a similar function in this spacious kitchen.
That hyena rug may be hard to ignore, but try for a moment and focus on the reclaimed wood paneling and wide floorboards instead. Fresh white towels stacked high and a soaking tub also help make this room feel inviting (erm, minus the bared fangs).
An all-marble bathroom is cold on the eyes and the toes. Here, a little swath of wood on the vanities and walls still looks modern without being stark.
I love the look of white shelves and subway tiles, but an all-white kitchen is a bear to maintain. Try wood counters for a fuss-free alternative to marble, which can stain.
Salvaged ebony-stained pine paneling could feel too heavy, but white bathroom features and door help lighten up this half bath just enough.
White is the backbone of the shabby chic aesthetic, but pale wood is its most trusted companion. A bit works wonders to up the comfort level in any white room.
