I am about to build a new modern farmhouse home and wonder if I can skip the drywall in areas where I install shiplap? Would it be more economic to do so and what would the prep be?

I've wondered the same thing @Gail, if the shiplap (or beadboarding, etc.) could BE the wall rather than just trim as this would seem more like a "real" wall than a sheet of gypsum and paper.

Buy 1/4" plywood, or even 5mm thick underlayment. Have Lowes or Home Depot cut it into 6 or 8 inch wide strips. Then nail to studs. Mine.
