What’s Popular in Sinks, Mirrors and Lighting in Master Baths
Double sinks and mirrors appeal to homeowners remodeling master baths, the 2019 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study finds
People renovating their master bathrooms like to double up on sinks and mirrors, creating a dedicated space for each partner to groom and store belongings, new data from Houzz shows.

The report includes responses from more than 1,300 registered users of Houzz who had completed a master bathroom remodel in the past 12 months, were working on one or were planning to start one in the next three months.

Double Mirrors Are Popular Too
Three-quarters (77%) of homeowners upgrade mirrors during their master bathroom renovation, and among that group a majority (54%) install two mirrors. This choice, of course, marries well with the popular two-sink setup.
Thirty-nine percent of renovating homeowners upgrading mirrors are selecting one upgraded mirror, while 7% are upgrading three or more mirrors.
Some renovating homeowners upgrading mirrors are choosing models with fancy features like anti-fog systems (15%), LED lighting (14%) and hidden outlets (6%).

Lighting is also a common feature to upgrade as part of a master bathroom remodel, with 81% of renovating homeowners choosing to do so. Among them, the majority are choosing wall lights (59%) or recessed lights (55%).
Practical options such as shower lights (38%) or fixtures with a fan (23%) are more popular among renovating homeowners who are upgrading lighting than are more design-forward options such as chandeliers (17%), pendant lights (15%) and lighted mirrors (13%).
The top material for upgraded light fixtures is a combination of metal and glass (70%), with all-metal a distant second (19%).
The 2019 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study gathered information from 1,360 registered users of Houzz who reported that they were homeowners age 18 or older who had completed a master bathroom remodel or addition in the past 12 months, were currently working on one or were planning to start one in the next three months. The survey was fielded between June 19 and July 2, 2019.

Sinks are a common bathroom element to upgrade as part of a master bathroom remodel: 78% of renovating homeowners do so. Among this group, 69% are choosing a two-sink setup in 2019, up from 66% in 2018.
Among renovating homeowners upgrading their sinks, undermount sinks are the most popular type (64%), followed by drop-in (16%) models and vessel sinks (11%).
