Jesse Ellis above asked how is it possible to achieve a Mediterranean look without the massive fireplaces, high ceilings and huge windows, so I thought I would post some pictures of Mediterranean interiors that are created out of "boxes". Not everyone on the Med lives in an historic building. Many live in modern construction. Even historically not all Mediterranean architecture has high ceilings. Here are interiors in Puglia, at the southern tip of Italy:

This is so helpful for designing my dream home! LOVE the colorful tile, especially on the stairs! Hopefully one day I'll be able to have that in my house.
