And among noted interior designers, BOKa is something of a best-kept secret – a trusted NYC architecture firm that can bring the architectural side of their designs to life.

Brian O'Keefe Architect, P.C. was established in 1993 with a focus on traditional high-end residential architecture. Firm Principal Brian O'Keefe received his architectural degree from Mississippi State University in 1988 and worked for renowned architects Ken Tate, Peter Marino, and Alexander Gorlin. The firm's concentration was on traditional architectural styles, but has since expanded to include modern or contemporary styles as well. Brian O'Keefe Architect, P.C. also works as an architectural consultant for several New York and Los Angeles based interior designers including a long standing collaboration with Marjorie Shushan which has resulted in many beautiful projects over the years, and most recently a 34,000 square foot Villa on Indian Creek Island, Florida which was showcased in the November 2009 issue of Architectural Digest.

Brian O'Keefe has created houses in Greenwich, CT, Palm Beach, FL, Nashville, TN, and Birmingham, AL. Currently, the firm is working on projects in New York City and the Hamptons. The firm has been published several times in Architectural Digest as well as Veranda, Elle Décor and Palm Beach Cottages & Gardens.

 - Description: This project was a major renovation in which Brian carefully transformed a stately 16,000 square foot New York City townhouse in a Landmark district, with an existing French Neoclassical limestone and granite façade, from a haphazardly arranged office building and returned it to its original intended use as a stunning home for a young, energetic and philanthropic family. Brian deftly navigated the design and construction administration process simultaneously in order to bring the project to comp…

 - Description: For this 25,000 square foot Shingle Style inspired home in the beautiful Hamptons area of Long Island, New York, Brian O’Keefe Architect was tasked to design the architectural interiors. The owner desired a world-class home that looked “as if it had been around for 100 years." even though it was a new construction. With that in mind, BOKa immediately set about researching the precedents of the traditional eclectic style interiors of the grand country estates on Long Island’s Gold Coast from arou…

 - Description: For this stunning new 6,000 square foot Tuscan villa-inspired home in the beautiful Belle Meade area of Nashville, Tennessee, the owners, who often visit Italy both for pleasure and to acquire antiques for their shop, were very adamant in their desire for the new house to possess the proportions and massing of a classical Italian villa. With that directive, Brian O'Keefe Architect immediately set about researching villa precedents of Tuscany and the Veneto regions, in particular famed sixteenth-…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Air registers?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful closet. Are the grills up high air registers or decorative?

A: Hi - Thank you for your question. The grilles are indeed active air conditioning registers. Regards, Brian O'Keefe

**Q: Sconce** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello what are the dimensions of the sconce?

A: hi, thank you for the question. unfortunately I do not know the dimensions of these sconces as they were found and purchased by the Owners directly. Wish I could be of more help. Regards, Brian

**Q: Where did you find these amazing mirrors?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Gorgeous! Please share where you found these amazing mirrors?

A: Hi Cindy, Thank you for noticing them. I custom designed them and had them fabricated. I would be happy to get pricing for you if you are interested in ordering. Thank you again. Regards, Brian O'Keefe

**Q: Chairs.** *(in Photo Questions)*

Those are truly beautiful chairs. Where are they sourced from. The whole room has a look of red wood. The ornaments look like they have been carefully chosen to go perfectly with the wood, the books and the chairs.

A: Hi Jedanna, Thank you for commenting on the room. The interior designer, Richard Keith Langham I believe purchased the chairs at auction and had them refinished and upholstered. I could be wrong on that... Regarding the wood - The room was completely paneled in Mahogany and stained to a dark brown tone and then finished with a hand waxed french polish technique. If by "ornaments" you are referring to the urns atop each pilaster of the bookcases...yes, I custom designed those to be carved and finished with the paneling. If you are referring to the many wonderful accessories in the room yes the designer selected beautiful pieces to finish the room. Thank you. Brian O'Keefe

**Q: Help with this ugly exterior!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Need help adding curb appeal to this home we are purchasing. I want it to look more craftsman and less Spanish style. Hate the flat roof on the sides.

A: Hi Katie - I think it would be rather difficult to change this to nice Craftsman Style home. The overall massing of the home does not suite that style typology. I do think it would be worth considering a more "spanish style" influence but look at the South American Estancias for inspiration. I have scanned some images from a book titled "Argentina The Great Estancias" by Rizzoli Press. The file size of the document is too large to attach to this comment post. I would be happy to email you the images if you are interested. I think your house has the beginning of the overall massing for this type of look and then you could change the look of the columns and porch ceiling to resemble the columns and ceiling in the images. If you could extend the central roof form to both the right and left over the flat roof additions you could achieve the overall look. If the flat roof additions cannot be roofed over then perhaps you could like at a more creative way to treat the parapet walls (I have a couple of images in the scan document). The chimney is also another design element that you could really turn into beautiful feature as well. The landscaping also plays an important role in the overall look. Regards, Brian O'Keefe Architect. www.bokapc.com

**Q: rug** *(in Photo Questions)*

where was this beautiful rug purchased?

A: Thanks for the question! I wish I could help. We did the architecture, not the decor. The interiors were done by Marjorie Shushan.
