> Christie Hausmann was a dream come true to work with! My wife (who was pregnant at the time) and I found Christie to be an incredible listener with an impeccable sense of design. She very thoughtfully worked with us to help us realize our vision for our complete remodel for our future family home. We wanted to create a home that felt timeless and highly functional with a lens for our art collection. She worked seamlessly with the construction team and contractors with professionalism and kindness, yet also stood strongly for us when aspects of the remodel needed to be addressed. Our daughters greet her with excitement when she visits for our ongoing consultations (for furniture, painting, etc) and we can't thank her enough for the masterful job she has done!

> Christie really helped us to this about how to use our space and also how to use just enough color to add character without overdoing it. She gave us feedback to open up our bathroom to make it more user friendly for our kids and to make closets more accessible as well. With the overwhelming amount of options out there, I really appreciated that Christie stayed true to our budget and helped us to find styles that fit our look, but didn't break the bank. Christie is knowledgable, responsive and easy-going which helped during the journey of stressful remodel decisions. Thank you Christie!

**★★★★★ — Whole house interior design, Nov. 2021**

> Christie did the interior design for most of our new large house and was so great to work with. She really listened to what we were looking for and never pressured us into anything outside our budget or our style. But she also had a ton of suggestions for things that we would have never thought of doing and she was right every time. She’s a great communicator and really easy to work with. Did I mention she has a great eye?
>
> I am really looking forward to working with her on future bathroom remodels and will trust her implicitly with those designs.

**★★★★★ — dakkuri, Nov. 2021**

> I first found Christie a few years ago to help pick out family room, living room and kitchen furniture. It was nice to have guidance and recommendations, many merchants I hadn't heard of, before buying investment pieces. Last year I hired her during our remodel to help with all things interior design. She was wonderful -- from helping to secure a (great) contractor, to sourcing color scheme, tile, floor and all other design decisions. It was more than worth what we paid, I think we saved so much time and were able to make confident decisions to keep the project moving along. We are still working together on the finishing touches, furniture mostly and she continues to impress with her creativity and ability to find the perfect solution, usually at a value price. I recommend Christie for all interior design projects, big and small.

> Christie has the best eye, impeccable taste and is a true professional. She furnished our newly purchased and completely empty vacation home in fall 2020, when we were deep in the pandemic. She went out of her way to find quick-ship and in-stock items, resourcefully finding gems like our dining table and a gorgeous desk in a local antique store. Within a few months, she had every room furnished-- four bedrooms (work/school from home enabled), a dining room, eat-in kitchen (with new tile, flooring, countertop, fixtures, lighting and a stunning new built-in banquette), three bathrooms with upgrades, and living room (she had the ceiling raised, which transformed the space). The best part is she did a "reveal" where we came in and saw it all put together, decorated with beautiful touches like books and plants. It felt like being on one of those reality home makeover shows on TV. We were all blown away, including our kids, who Christie listened to carefully and gave them rooms they love more than their rooms at home. The end result was better than we could have imagined. Can't recommend Christie and her awesome team highly enough!

**★★★★★ — Rebecca DuBois, Oct. 2019**

> In 2013, I had a toddler, a baby, my first real job, and my first home. What I didn’t have was time or any kind of vision for my new home (I had gotten used to my hand-me-down furniture and whatever color paint was already on the walls of my rental). My new house was a blank slate with good bones. Think high ceilings and lots of natural light, but eggshell walls, beige carpet, 90’s brass fixtures, and yellow oak trim.
>
> I searched online for a local designer with fresh ideas and a modern perspective, and I found Christie Hausmann Design. In our initial meeting, I found Christie to be easy to talk with, attentive to my thoughts and priorities, and full of great ideas. When we started working together, she started a Pinterest page for each room in my house. We met about once a week. At first, she suggested diverse ideas ranging from contemporary to modern to quirky to boho. The more we met and I chose ideas that I liked and didn’t like, the better she got at suggesting new ideas that I liked. And regarding ideas, I was looking for complete help, from paint colors, wood, tile, lighting, and fixtures, to artwork, furniture, and throw pillows.
>
> The best way I can describe what Christie did for my house is that she made it feel original, but still feel like home. When making decisions, she encouraged me to take some risk but also stay within my comfort zone. Here are some examples:
> 1.There are large ceiling beams in our living area that were painted the same color as the walls (eggshell). She suggested painting the beams a color (i.e. brown, red, grey) to make them pop, but that sounded too extreme to me. I was thinking we’d just paint them the same as the wall color. We went somewhere in the middle, partially stripping the paint and staining them grey, giving them a weathered beach wood feel. The beams really made this room, and I’m glad she helped me realize that.
> 2.She found a local person selling old barn wood that we used to line the front of the bar. This transformed our bar from generic to a statement.
> 3.For the boys’ bathroom, I gave Christie complete range to design however she wanted (with my final approval, of course). When she showed me the blue color she suggested for the vanity, my first thought was “painters tape blue”. But she explained how it would be balanced out with the grey tiles and white counter top…and she was right. The room turned out amazing (and I don’t normally notice bathrooms!).
> 4.She found fun, unique lighting for the kids’ playroom and kids’ bedrooms.
>
> In addition, Christie helped me make decisions that felt impossible due to so many options. Here are some examples:
> 1.There are literally dozens of different color white paints, and she managed to find the perfect white that says “whimsical and beachy” and not “sterile hospital.”
> 2.She found edgy, colorful pillows that finished off my living room. She even chose their sizes and shapes to make them all work together.
> 3.She went shopping with me at tile and plumbing stores. This kind of thing overwhelms me and sucks my energy. Christie effortlessly found beautiful tiles and fixtures that worked together perfectly.
>
> Overall, I give my highest recommendation for Christie as a designer. She has an impressive ability to envision what a room can become. Hiring her was worth every penny.

**Comment from Christie Hausmann Design:**

> Thanks so much for the amazing review! I really appreciate you taking the time to write it. I loved working with you, it was a great project, and so much fun!

**★★★★★ — lisa ortiz, Feb. 2018**

> We hired Christie to solve some problems we had in our house: lighting, drapes, a television in the living room we didn't want to see but which we sometimes used. Christie solved all these problems with a creative practicality and easy and up-to-date aesthetic that has made our house a much more pleasant and functional place to be. (She also found us the most beautiful reclaimed-wood table for our porch-dining area, and I'm ever grateful for the meals and conversation we've had around that beautiful table!) Christie creative and knowledgeable, but she also worked within our budget. I highly recommend her!

**Comment from Christie Hausmann Design:**

> Thanks for the great review! I can't wait to see how the rest of the house transforms!

**★★★★★ — Mimi Trenholme, Jan. 2018**

> Christie has a real gift for design, and is an absolute pleasure to work with. I felt so fortunate to have a design genius (no exaggeration) in my corner with so much enthusiasm for helping to define my vision and bring it to life. She knows how to get things done, and where! Color and pattern and finishes and fabrics are some of her talents; she can do everything from the floor plan to the tiny details that make a room. I also appreciate her ability to be straightforward about why a particular option might not work, and how she'll immediately suggest alternate ideas...she obviously loves her job and her passion for design is contagious!

**Comment from Christie Hausmann Design:**

> Thanks Mimi. It was so much fun to work on your project!

**★★★★★ — Ali Osborne, Jan. 2017**

> Christie is amazing! She is so down to earth and really strives to listen and work with her clients. I love her sense of colorful, tasteful & unique design style. I highly recommend her to design any space that comes before her!

**★★★★★ — medhead, Sept. 2016**

> Christie did a fabulous job decorating each and every room in my new house! She gave me options that were oftentimes something I wouldn't think of picking but looked really great and homey once they were in the house. She had a great touch in incorporating the things I wanted while giving a good guiding eye to what would go where, etc. She was very good with budgets and deadlines and was very detail-oriented.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Williams, Sept. 2016**

> I have really enjoyed working with Christie over the past couple of years. She has an exceptional eye for color coordination and design. She is very professional and really listens to her clients needs, so that she is able give them a beautiful space which reflects their personalities and life styles. She is a natural at what she does and it is reflected in her beautiful work.

**★★★★★ — Lewis Design-Build-Remodel, Sept. 2016**

> We have been working with Christie for just a couple of years. What we have noticed and have come to respect is her calm. Building and remodeling can be so stressful. There are so many decisions to make and so many checks to write. Christie is the trusted beacon in the middle of all of it. Her clients adore her for the focus that she is able to bring to her projects. She listens. She is an incredible listener. You can see her process your information and then, she magically helps you create the design that you were dreaming of. It's important to surround yourself with level headed advisors when you need them the most. Christie is this type of advisor. She is the perfect combination of creative sizzle and whispersoft calm.
>
> We highly recommend Christie for your project.

**★★★★★ — Rachel Hunter, Nov. 2015**

> Christie brought me in on this job to make a custom lighting element for her clients, and I was able to see her in action picking colors and surfaces. She is an excellent designer, great with color and full of good ideas, while being fun and laid back. She helps her clients navigate the often overwhelming array of choices with calm and humor, and will keep working on details until the perfect solution is found. I've worked with Christie on many projects over the last 8+ years, and have always enjoyed working with her. If you are considering taking on a project from a room makeover to a full remodel, get Christie on your team!

**★★★★★ — ksieverson, June 2015**

> Christie is a pleasure to work with. She has a great eye for color and a knack for bringing all elements of a project together. Her design skill was evident from our first consultation and continued to impress throughout our extensive residential remodel/addition. She understood our vision and style from the onset and helped us through the difficult tasks of color and finish selections with a sense of ease and humor. I would recommend Christie to anyone who would like skilled and creative assistance in realizing their dream home.

**★★★★★ — jojob, Feb. 2015**

> i hired Christie Hausmann to re-work the interiors of several beachfront houses I own in Santa Cruz. since the houses are used exclusively as vacation rentals, the project was a challenging one. I was looking for a chic, beachy, high-end vibe, but needed furnishings and finishes to be highly durable, easy to clean, and appealing to a wide range of guests. Christie hit a home run. She chose a serene color palatte that pulled together all of the spaces, but also integrated pops of color and texture. Her furniture, art and fixture choices were thoughtful and within my budget. Christie had a keen eye for re-purposing what I already had, and introducing high impact pieces that transformed the look and feel of the homes, She embraced my goal of featuring local artists and accents throughout the spaces. A more conceptual advantage of working with Christie is that she is a focused listener -- such an important quality in a designer. She channelled my disparate ideas into a coherent vision. I'm so happy with the results that I've recently retained her to source additional art and accessories for the homes, and to select some exterior accent colors. Christie has leveraged her understanding of the project and worked very efficiently on this next phase. Since this project has been a hybrid of commercial and residential, I'm confident recommending Christie Hausmann's work for either context. I'm a very happy client!

**★★★★★ — jcpo, Sept. 2014**

> Christie is a pleasure to work with. My husband and I hired her to help us design our master bathroom. It was a total demolition and redesign. We had a certain amount of space to fit it all in. She listened to our wants and needs and designed a room that works for us. She is thoughtful, knowledgeable and professional. We enjoyed working with her and highly recommend her!

**★★★★★ — kjello3, Sept. 2014**

> Firstly, she helped me pick out all of the paint colors for my Santa Cruz home which all turned out to be spot on. She also guided me with my youngest son's room in terms of both color and design: rugs, lamps, pillows, etc. Secondly, she possesses a calm, easy going, but detail-oriented personality. She was extremely pleasant to work with on these projects. She is focused and reliable. We are beginning a major home renovation and we are once again hoping to utilize Christie's expertise for this huge undertaking as well. I highly recommend Christie!

**★★★★★ — svsail, Sept. 2014**

> Christie was wonderful to work with. We hired her to work with our daughter to help her organize and implement her ideas for her dream room. Christie helped her to design a functional yet whimsical room within our budget that she adores! She even emailed links for items we could purchase later as the budget allowed.
> I will definitely call Christie again for our next design project.

**★★★★★ — kbogartsmith, Aug. 2014**

  - Description: We love this take on an ADU for a lovely family of four. With an 800 square foot main house, they decided to convert the garage into a space for guests and work. In less than 300 square feet we managed to fit a kitchenette, separate bedroom, pull out bed and full bath.

  - Description: The exterior walls stayed, but the entire interior was touched in this full house remodel. From the surprising powder room to the pajarito wallpaper in the laundry that is a nod to the client's Latina heritage, the home is as unique as the family and we are thrilled with the finished product!

  - Description: A funky layout with a small cramped kitchen and underutilized spaces, we reconfigured the downstairs of this family home to make sure there was a spot for everyone. An open, spacious kitchen with a butler's pantry that doubles as a work area. A cozy reading space at the front of the house. A teen hangout room. And we even tucked away a spot for the dogs to have their breakfast!

  - Description: A kitchen remodel was planned for five years later, but an unfortunate (and large) leak from an old refrigerator changed the timetable. After considering the costs and impact to family life of doing two remodels, we convinced the client to move up the full remodel rather than do a quick fix with the insurance money. Who wants to live through a remodel twice! We reversed the flow of the kitchen so it opened up a larger living area. The husband has a bad ankle from multiple surgeries, so it was es…

  - Description: With plans to start a family in the near future, this couple wanted a remodel that would give them a home that was both artistic and family-friendly. The ceiling was vaulted to let in more natural light and walls were removed to connect the kitchen, dining room and family room. The master bathroom became a true master with his-and-hers vanities, a free-standing tub and a large walk-in shower. A second bathroom was updated with family members in mind. We added a trough sink and a handheld shower…

  - Description: In this project we faced the ultimate challenge - toddler triplets. Located in a neighborhood sandwiched between the redwoods and beach, the house was dated but had the space the family needed for a forever home. The clients wanted a comfortable, inviting space that could stand up to a busy life. They doubled the square footage from their previous home and weren’t bringing much in the move. Given the project’s budget and timeline, we left the floor plan untouched but added a fresh coat of paint,…

  - Description: This client wanted a fresh start, taking only minimal items from her old house when she moved. We gave the kitchen and half bath a facelift, and then decorated the rest of the house with all new furniture and decor, while incorporating her unique and funky art and family pieces. The result is a house filled with fun and unexpected surprises, one of our favorites to date!
- [west side beach house](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-side-beach-house-pj-vj~6977988)
  - Location: Santa Cruz, CA
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: The clients — a laid-back family of four and their beloved golden retriever — wanted a comfortable, low maintenance space that could stand up to parties and pets, sandy kids and sleepovers. The hitch: they were starting from scratch and quickly needed a move-in ready home that could serve as an outpost for work and study. Deep in the pandemic, we turned to online resources and our network of local makers to deliver a turnkey getaway in just four months!
- [carbonera remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/carbonera-remodel-pj-vj~1968895)
  - Location: Santa Cruz, CA
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This funky Santa Cruz house was originally painted entirely in a tired pinkish white. After stripping and refinishing the beams and brackets, the whole house was painted in a crisp white, instantly updating the space. We also renovated two bathrooms. One to grow with two little boys. The other - the master - has a modern, rustic vibe.
- [east side bathroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-side-bathroom-pj-vj~542454)
  - Location: Santa Cruz, CA
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: A common dilemma - the second bathroom in a three bedroom, two bathroom house. Most of the time it's the kids bathroom so durability is essential. But when guests are visiting, it needs to have a sense of sophistication as well. The client wanted a space that was easy to clean and maintain, and also maximized the small 5'x8' footprint. We think we accomplished all that and more!
- [seabright bungalow](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/seabright-bungalow-pj-vj~1097752)
  - Location: Santa Cruz, CA
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This three bedroom bungalow is the second of two houses on an oceanfront vacation rental property. Our goal was to create a simple and stylish retreat designed to withstand the heavy use that comes with laid back beach living. Wood, wicker, hides, and a mix of blues and greens brought the outdoor in, emphasizing the airy, coastal feel of the space. The owners have seen an increase in rave reviews, referrals and bookings. They love the space and the tangible business upside!
- [pacific bungalow](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/pacific-bungalow-pj-vj~553791)
  - Location: Santa Cruz, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This two bedroom bungalow is one of two vacation rental houses on an oceanfront bluff overlooking a popular family beach. Both bungalows were in need of an update. We needed to create a family-friendly but stylish beach retreat with easy maintenance. We created a clean, modern palette with counterpoints of natural materials like wood and woven fibers, for a bit of California beach bungalow chic. Top priority was given to a new and playful color palette, inviting and durable furniture, repurposed…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the Backsplash!** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'd love the name/manufacturer of the elongated hexagon and subway on the backsplash. Thank you!

A: Hi! Our client actually bought the backsplash through a connection they have in the industry - after our approval of course ;) - so I don’t have that info. Sorry!

**Q: Can I use your image on my blog page? Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can I use your image on my blog page? Thanks

A: No worries. Yes, you can use it. Thanks!

**Q: Love this dining table. Can you tell me who is the manufacturer?** *(in Photo Questions)*

pattyhorton@comcast.net. Thank you.

A: Thank you! It's actually custom. A metalworker and furniture maker built it together. https://www.kochlacswood.us/ and https://huntermetal.com/ - based in Santa Cruz, CA

**Q: Love! What flooring did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love this space, especially how it has been styled and the finishing touches. What flooring did you use?

A: Thank you so much! The flooring was existing in the house when my client purchased it, so we don't have any records of it. You may be able to take the photo to a tile store and find something similar. Good luck!

**Q: The cabinets are a beautiful wood -- where are they from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would really love to know about the cabinets - it's hard to find wood grain that doesn't look too cheap if not custom-made.

A: The client paid the cabinet maker directly so I wasn't directly involved in the pricing. They had a really hearty budget, so I know they weren't cheap!

**Q: can you share what white color you used for the walls** *(in Photo Questions)*

It’s beautiful! Could you share the wall color ? Thanks!

A: Right?!?
