Terri Symington, ASID .

USA +1 281.676.3302
CH +41 79.458.452.

My focus and philosophy is to create a design concept for my clients that will have them just as excited about the ideas and possibilities as I am. The finished spaces must be a reflection of the client and must enhance the client’s presence when occupying them. Classic, timeless and sophisticated design…intended to be lived in and enjoyed.

“I do not promote a signature style that defines my projects, but rather seek a timeless style, which will maintain its appeal regardless of the current trends. What ultimately makes each project successful is first by focusing on the bigger picture and then attention to the details.”

In addition to studying fine art and interior design, I draw upon a lifetime of passion and experience with the arts… from being a dancer with a jazz/ ballet company, a fashion illustrator, an art director with a well known home furnishings/fashion catalog… into becoming an accomplished award winning interior designer. “The accumulations of my experiences, curiosity and the desire to keep learning have shaped me as a designer.”

Interior design is much more than the selection of pretty things to be arranged in a space… it is a multi-dimensional process, and it takes much more than education and experience to become an excellent designer… it requires the innate ability to “see” and “feel” what a space could become… even when the space merely exists on paper… I always offer more than my clients expect to which they always say “Wow, I would never have thought of that!”

**★★★★★ — Upchurch Architects, Inc., Sept. 2012**

> Terri Symington, ASID, is a thoughtful designer, mindful of the client's needs and priorities above all else. She does an excellent job of combining family treasures with her contemporary design sensibilities.
>
> The Private Ranch project was a joy to work on together. The process was flawless. She came into the project during construction and worked well with the architectural design in place. Upchurch Architects, Inc. vision for the interior spaces was carried out through Terri's careful attention to detail and professionalism.
>
> The interior furnishings have held up well and continue to feel both fresh and cozy. The Ranch has become a central gathering place for the client's family and friends.

> Symington Interiors is a high end, full service interior design company working with architects ,contractors and all other trades involved in completion of the project. After weeks of interviewing designers I met with Terri Symington and instantly there was a connection.
>
> Although typically designing for high-end projects, Terri is conscientious if you have specific budgetary constraints. She has impeccable taste and will make your project look luxurious regardless of your budget. She takes such an interest in the project and goes above and beyond in finding solutions to any problem that may arise. She has an excellent sense of style combined with a fine attention to detail.
>
> Terri provided just what I was looking for, she made the most of every square foot, listened carefully to my wants and needs, made choices that were sensitive to the budget, found creative solutions to problems and created a masterpiece!
>
> Despite juggling other projects, she was always very responsive to my needs and worked in a most professional manner. She is very mindful of the client's taste's, likes and dislikes. Her ideas where innovative, timeless and elegant. She is a pleasure to work with and is highly recommended!
>
> Terri is a true professional, creative, respectful of my home, and most importantly she listened without judgment. She took the time to truly listen to what my needs were. She understood we had a budget and did absolute miracles while staying within our number.
>
> Terri, you have truly outdone yourself and over exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to do another future project.

**★★★★★ — joytoo, Sept. 2012**

> Terri's ability to combine her vision and creative ambition with practicality was just what I wanted and needed for my 1970 to my 2005 'New Kitchen'. Her choice of marble mosaic wall tile to the lighting was something I would not have considered. She started with an empty area to a space that I now always get 'wonderful' comments. I am so happy with the new kitchen and arrangement of the chrome appliances she choose for this Town House and if needed I will actively seek her again for other projects. 'Terri' ~ is a pleasure to work with, and I give her 'Five' stars for cost and time.'

**★★★★★ — zeebear, Sept. 2012**

> Terri is the first ASID designer with whom I've worked; what a difference in the level of professionalism. Detailed invoices, lots of contact with pictures, calls, and emails--valuable for me because we're several hours from Terri's sources. She worked beautifully with what I assume are typical difficulties: a wife who wants cabbage roses, a husband who thinks IKEA is the epitome of cutting edge design, and two constantly shedding German Shepherds. I asked for comfortable and welcoming--impressing my guests is low on my list. She achieved the first two in spades and in addition everyone is impressed! My sister gave me the best compliment. On a visit from Florida, she was roaming around the house looking at the way Terri had incorporated some of my family pieces and she said, " These rooms are so interesting, my house looks sterile in comparison." I can't say enough about the amount of time and thought Terri put into our project; she far exceeded my expectations.

**★★★★★ — brenhamgal, Sept. 2012**

> After contracting to have my home built, I combed the internet searching for decorators who might help me achieve my vision of an elegant but inviting and relaxing environment. I found Terri's website and viewed the pictures of her previous projects; they seemed to fit exactly what I was looking for.
>
> From our first meeting she jumped right in and solved some design problems I was having with the master bath. She brings numerous ideas and options to the table for me to choose from and presents them so that I can visualize the actual finished product. Terri always anticipates the next area that we will have to address and is prepared with samples and thoughts of what might work with what we have accomplished.
>
> Terri's ability and experience in working with the craftsmen has made this project an easy one. She knows what questions to ask and can, at the same time, anticipate questions I might have and communicate between me and the contractors. This enables me to make informed decisions and I am more confident in those decisions than I would have been if I were on my own.
>
> Terri Symington is an invaluable asset to me and one I am so thankful to have helping me though this project. I would have been so overwhelmed without her guidance and organization. I have no doubts that mine will not just be a "nice house" but will be the elegant, comfortable home I dreamed it would be.

  - Description: A typically small European kitchen gets a complete redo to be fitting to the multi-million dollar Swiss chalet. There were several goals for this project... First, I wanted to make sure that the kitchen tied into the living areas seamlessly so that it would look like it was original. Second, the before kitchen had absolutely no work space and very little storage, therefore it was a main criteria to address those problems and resolve them. And third, by opening up the wall it offered the kitchen…

  - Description: My relationship with the client began before construction began, which gave me the opportunity to make substantial changes to the construction plans. With the client's desire to create a different style from her previous interiors, I designed a concept that was sophisticated, but calming and welcoming. The few items that we selected to keep from her previous interiors for her new home were "reworked" to seamlessly fit the new scheme. Every detail in the whole project was carefully considered bef…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Problems embedding Houzz photos in my blog (Elementor + EmbedPress)** *(in Other)*

Hi, I used to embed Houzz photos on my blog with Embedpress and Elementor page builder, but the images now have disappeared and even with new articles it's not possible to embed Houzz photos anymore. I copy and paste the embed link, but no image is shown. Is there a way to fix the problem? Thank you.

A: Is this the only website that you are having trouble saving images from ? ... If it is, then it is most likely, like I mentioned, HOUZZ's way of protecting images from being lifted.

**Q: UK Designer Scam** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Ruth Smith is who she says she is. Any other designers been contacted by her to set up their newly purchased home?

A: I received a text from this same number a couple of days ago under the name of Shay Gonsales at gonsa54544@gmail.com .... I always ignore these obvious scammers ...

**Q: What style is the chair?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I've seen a similar style but with more rounded lines. Thanks for your thots! jen

A: I would consider it a contemporary, tufted , winged slipper chair... it really has borrowed elements from different styles.

**Q: Austin remodel project** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is beautiful! Who is the architect? I just bought a home in Austin, Texas and would love a room like this.

A: Hello Anna. The architect for this project is Upchurch Architects in Brenham Texas. Tommy Upchurch was originally from Austin and is still very active with projects in that area, as am I. When you contact them, ask to talk to Elizabeth and be sure and tell them how you found them. Best of luck with your new project.

**Q: Lamps** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where are the lamps plugged in?

A: There is a counter with the cooktop on the back side of the bar with electrical outlets in the back splash.

**Q: Pendants to go with this chandelier?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the process of shopping for lighting for our new home. We have purchased the attached chandelier for our table (that goes in the empty space in front of the window). We went long because the table is long. I'm unsure of what to do over the island that runs parallel to the table.

I'm thinking two to three pendants. Two that I'm considering are:

http://progresslighting.com/products.aspx?product=P5197-108

or

http://progresslighting.com/products.aspx?product=P5142-20

But I'm not sure....

I would say that our style is transitional with a rustic/old world edge (if that makes any sense...ha!)

Help!!!!

A: Of the two...I prefer the P5197-108. I like the other as well... but I think it is too busy with the chandelier and will compete with it. Nice choices...!
