I had hired Lauren Leonard to oversee renovation of our new condo in Amelia Island. I terminated Ms Lauren due to her failures to comprehen our renovation plus ongoing issues in communication. Ms Leonard presented an unusable design for a our kitchen despite two meetings with the general contractor. Ms Leonard failed to understand building restrictions and basic facts that the plumbing could not be moved nor could ac ducts. Then, Ms. Leonard failed to advise that ProSource would not deliver our ceramic tile. I live in Baltimore. Ms. Leonard of Jacksonville, Florida would not help to find transport. I must commend Jason and Marie at ProSource who helped to locate a freight company for $500 to deliver. After the fiasco of the kitchen desIgn and the tiles for which I returned to Amelia to oversee delivery and storage, > I requested that Ms Lauren Leonard refund the $500 balance of the $2500 retainer and return our keys. I advised that I would submit a review to Houzz if keys were not returned. Ms Leonard advised that she was not responsible for the post office. > In a final nasty action, Lauren Leonard put a full set of metal keys in a paper envelope with two stamps and mailed. The envelope arrived without keys. Now, Thanks to Lauren Leonard, i am going to have to return to Amelia and hire a locksmith! The professional services of Lauren Leonard have been truly unprofessional and a waste of time and money. **Comment from Lauren Leonard Interiors LLC:** > At my first meeting with Mrs. Hindlsey she hired me to to design her kitchen remodel and provided me with the budget and the project scope of what she wanted completed - raised the ceilings, relocate the duct work and move plumbing. After that meeting, she asked me to to take a look at the identical unit across the hall as they were doing the same type of remodel that she wanted to do on hers. From there, I met with the contractor of the job across the hall and he looked at Mrs. Hindsley's condo and said that the items she requested for her kitchen remodel were doable. After that point, I began working on the kitchen design plans - still thinking she had a significant budget and based the design plans around her original project scope. However, Mrs. Hindsley failed to communicate with me over the course of 4 weeks that the budget had been drastically reduced. It wasn't until the day that we met to review the design plans for the kitchen that she informed me that she didn't have the original budget to do all of the items that she had in her project scope. She never communicated with me that the kitchen would have to be scaled back. The kitchen design plan that I gave her could have been implemented based on the original budget. > > After that meeting, she sent an email threatening to leave a bad review on Houzz and demanded the balance of her retainer be returned and her keys. In my Interior Design Contract that Mrs. Hindsley signed it states that the retainer is nonrefundable, which is standard for this industry. However, if she would have treated me with the same respect that I gave her throughout the time that we worked together, I would have gladly refunded the money as a good gesture. I sent the keys out the same day that I received her threatening email. I knew enough to take a photo of the keys with the stamped envelope as proof that the keys went out in the mail because something told me she would further threaten me if she did not get the keys back. > > With regards to the freight charge for the tile, Mrs. Hindsley hired her own contractor and tile installer, after I was out of the picture, and wants to blame me because neither of them have a vehicle that can pick up the tile and she has to pay to have it delivered. That is an issue that should be handled between her and her contractor. > > I enjoy being a member of the Houzz community and have met many wonderful clients over the years through Houzz. However, I will not allow someone to treat me poorly and threaten me for the sake of a good review. **★★★★★ — Brooke Brennan, May 2018** > We have lived in 7 homes before the one that Lauren designed with us. Finally putting down roots, our house build was a special one. This is the home that we want to grow old in and raise our family in. We wanted it to "feel" like us and be 100% comfortable. Lauren came to the table with incredible questions that helped uncover where to begin with our style. Lauren has an eye for colors, textures and finishes. The design boards that she started with were spot-on with what we were looking for. She created a coastal oasis for our family- one that we NEVER want to leave. While our build process was overwhelming at times, Lauren is very familiar with a build from the ground up and made a number of visits with us to the home designer, builder, flooring, tile and cabinet shops. We face timed from marble yards until we found just the right pieces. Lauren is a true partner in the process and doesn't stop until you are 100% in love with the outcome. We still get butterflies 2 years later driving up to the house and stepping inside. She created the home that we never knew we always wanted. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone who is building, renovating or redesigning their home. She helped with everything from paint colors, flooring, lighting, cabinets, tile, countertops, window treatments and furniture selection. She also made several suggestions on finishing touches such as, trimming out all the interior windows and doorways, adding wainscoting in the pool bath hallway and transom windows in the front hallway. Her vision and style were exactly what we were looking for but did not know where to begin or how to put it all together. Lauren was extremely professional and easy to work with! I asked her to pick out the floor surface for the entire space, redesign the fireplace area, adding a bookcase with drawers and cabinets, and to design our master bath and bedroom. I requested that she use blue and white primarily, and to give it all a “happy feeling”. She created a beautiful happy home and we could not be more pleased. She was professional, presenting a workbook with all elements and price estimates, and oversaw the contractor’s work. As the work began, I added to the project and asked her to also redo the second bath, and pick out furnishings and lighting for the porch and and the living/dining area. She took it all in stride and the whole condo looks amazing. We have just asked her to redesign the kitchen, which was not remodeled in the original design. She is always cheerful, on-time for meetings, knowledgable about the latest design ideas, and has great product sources. Lauren has helped me make good decisions when I want to splurge on an item, as well as offer cost friendly choices to balance my budget out. I love to decorate but sometimes just get "stuck". Lauren has helped me put the final touches on a very small guest bedroom I didn't know what to do with - just curtains, dust ruffle, paint, knobs and lamps made all the difference. She has taken a dull office area and added grasscloth wallpaper, beautiful lighting, and great fabrics - all suitable for my husband when he works from home. Our current project is the family room - starting with an almost blank slate. It takes time and thoughtful choices, but I know the finished room will be worth it.
