> We used Dunn Edwards paint twice for whole house repaint projects. The first time, we used “Premium” Spartashield paint. The house looked great on day one after it was repainted by a contractor. Come month eighteen, you can see where the house was painted by the contractor and where I touched it up. The paint did not hold up to Arizona sun, faded quickly.
> On our next house, we thought we’d up the ante and use Dunn Edwards “Ultra Premium” Evershield paint that would surely prevent problems down the road. The house looked great after it was just painted. After about a year and a half, same story, the paint is noticeably lighter than it was. If we use the same 5-gallon bucket as was used to paint the house for touch ups, you see darker spots where touch ups were done. Yes, I know how to feather the paint. Does not help when the old paint is much, much lighter.
> Contacted Dunn Edwards. The answer was we don’t cover pain fading. Hmm, I thought the function of paint is to give color to the painted surface. If it loses the color after just a year and a half, is it a good paint?
> Don’t know about you, but we would not use Dunn Edwards paint on any projects we expect to own for more than a year.

> my home was painted with the Evershield product, which supposedly has a "lifetime" guarantee.... don't count on it!
> one wall (with most direct sun exposure) has blistered after 10 years (the remainder of the exterior has experienced quite a bit of fading, but that's another matter). I've attempted for 5 weeks to get D-E to deal with the issue of the blistered wall. each time I call corporate customer service they promise to have a sales rep look at it. first time, no contact after two weeks. second time, called by rep the next week who promised to come out that week....it's now 3 weeks later and he still hasn't called back (I've left several messages with him, by the way). I'm ready to go with another manufacturer's product to complete the job.

> beware BEWARE. Two weeks ago I bought 1 gallon of dunn-Edwards paint to repaint my wrought iron fence. I choose a beautiful color that is called "Georgia Clay". Product and color was truly wonderful. But I need another gallon to finish my fence. So off to the store I go this morning to buy another gallon of that great product. But guess what? I bought the last gallon of Georgia Clay in America. They can not get the mix necessary to make that color - even from the manufacturer of the mix. So of course in the middle of the job I get to try and match Dun Edward color and sheen. So be very careful with these people and be sure that you have MORE then enough to do the whole job because they can't help you find more. PS THANKS ACE HARDWARE - YOU REALLY DID TRY TO MATCH IT.

> Awful fading after 4 years and we used Ever-shield - their top of the line paint after 4 years. And no response from the warranty team. I would NOT recommend them at all.

> I have painted A LOT of houses and walls and being from the Pacific NW, the main brands I stuck with were Sherwin Williams and Miller Paint (only because they took over the Kelly-Moore paint, which I still maintain is the best paint I have ever used). But in moving to the SW, Miller Paint is not down here AND the new home we bought had leftover cans of Dunn Edwards, so I decided to continue using what they had used on our home and bought more of the Dunn Edwards paint. Wow, what a mistake!
>
> While I must admit that their customer service is excellent (free paint samples, finding paint at one of their stores and having it mixed and delivered to the store nearest me, just with a phone call), their paint has caused me a lot of grief. First, I have never seen paint separate so quickly as this paint does! Second, the cans rust and drop fragments into the paint within a month of sealing up a partially used can and reopening it. Third, the color just never turns out true, on the walls. I was having such difficulty that I even broke down and bought their sticky paint swatch sheets and started using those, thinking I was doing something wrong. Fourth, I am seeing a lot of peeling. Granted, I can't blame the Dunn Edwards paint 100% for this, as I don't know how the walls were prepped, as this was a 15 yr old home we recently purchased. What I walked into was a freshly painted home with Dunn Edwards Spartawall and within a few weeks, I started noticing peeling at the bottoms of the wall, by the baseboards. Could it have been excessive humidity in the house? Possibly, but it's the desert and it was before the monsoon season and we didn't have a humidifier. So this fourth reason is a little weak, I will concede to that. But reasons 1 to 3 are enough to keep me from ever buying Dunn Edwards paint again. It's back to Sherwin Williams for me.
>
> NOTE: This was happening with BOTH their Exquisite brand and their Spartawall brand.
>
> At this point, I am staring down repainting

> I've been buying Dunn Edwards paint for over 40 years and always trusted the quality and durability. My side job is painter and cabinet maker (I've done a lot of both). I hadn't used Dunn Edwards paint on any cabinets for years until this past week. I did a build for a friend and the cabinets were beautiful. He wanted white semi-gloss enamel so I set him up with Spartawall interior a $40 gallon. And so my nightmare began. Of course I used my airless sprayer but the surface was rough despite MANY adjustments to the sprayer. I decided to sand it all down and brush it. That's when I discovered the reason the spayed finish was so poor. There was absolutely NO time to work the paint...it set up immediately! Since the paint did not self level, (yes I thinned it...no help) even my highest quality Purdy brushes left strokes that I'm not happy with. Naturally, everyone will fault the human...me. I tried everything I could think of...I've NEVER had an issue like this before. The air temp was in the high 70's so that was not the cause. Home Depot's paint is cheaper and I've never had this issue with it.

> Our family business opened an account with Dunn-Edwards in 1982. It has always been our first choice for products needed to complete our company's painting projects. The quality of their paint is consistently excellent, as is their customer service. Presently we're focused primarily on wallcovering installation, but any time we have an interior painting job, DE is where we buy our material.

**★★★★★ — Crash of Rhinos Painting LLC, March 2017**

> We only use Dunn-Edwards Paint for ALL of our exterior repaint projects. Simply put it is the BEST. Nothing stand up to our Hot Arizona Climate. We also have a great partnership with their Color Advisors. Our Sale Representative is only one phone call away. We lover partnering with like minded people! Thank you DE for raising the levels of customer service with superior products.

> We love using Dunn Edwards paints. They have great colors that are our go to color choices! Some of our best projects always have Dunn Edwards colors attached to them and we get tons of compliments on how great the colors look! Highly Recommend the colors and the quality!

**★★★★★ — The TomKat Studio + TomKat Real Estate, Jan. 2017**

> We have been using Dunn-Edwards Paint for all of our home and investment properties for over 10 years after it was recommended to us by a custom home builder we worked with. The quality and color selections are fantastic and we know we will always be happy with the results when we use Dunn-Edwards!

## Community Q&A

**Q: what colors were used on the exterior** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The main exterior is in Pewter Patter DET627 and the trim is in Weathered Brown DEC756.

**Q: Help with Exterior Colors on 1931 Spanish/Mediterranean** *(in Paint)*

We've tried probably 8 different trim colors and a couple different body colors. We are fairly sure we want a white for the body. Something that isn't primer bright but also doesn't look like dingy yellow. For trim, we've tried a number of blues and greens and nothing has sold us. The darker of the two blues in the photo is FB Stiffkey Blue. The lighter (and too bright in person) blue is SW Blue Cruise. Other FB colors we've tried are Oval Room Blue, Pigeon, Railings, and Cooks Blue. We like the classic Spanish homes with white stucco and either a light blue or green with some gray to dull it out a bit but haven't been able to get one that works. Our roof tiles are Terra Cotta from Redlands Tile, so they're fairly orange.
If you have any specific maker (we're in Socal with good access to most brands) and colors, we'd really appreciate your input on body and trim colors.
I've tried to attach a photo. Hopefully it works. We've trimmed the bougainvillea and will be putting a double wood gate below the arch. In photoshop, we've tried keeping the garage door white and think it may look better, but I haven't got around to doing it. We may also replace the front concrete with some old brick. Thank you for your suggestions.

A: What about Whisper DEW340 with Gray Monument DET602?

**Q: Paint colors for DE** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello! Dunn Edwards has some wonderful paint! Could you please tell me what the DE color for Benjamin’s Moore’s Chantilly Lace and Barren Plain?

A: Thank you! Our cross over color for Chantilly Lace is DET648 White Picket Fence and for Barren Plain it's DEW395 Heirloom Shade.

**Q: Is whisper a bright white on exterior a little softer white?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Considering using this color. Thanks!

A: Whisper is a bright white and looks great on exterior use!

**Q: Current colors for rental property? (interior paint)** *(in Paint)*

I have always used Navajo White for this, and never thought much of it. Now that one place is vacant, and looking at the place after going through my own remodel at my home, I can see it looks a bit yellowy and boring. I would like to change it to something new.

I was told by others--landlords--that greige or light gray is "in" for rentals right now, and colors like Beige and off white are out.

But I combed through my local rental ads online for ideas and I just see a lot of builder beige type colors in the rental ads, or tan--not many grays. Although sometimes it's hard to tell on the monitor.

The rental is being remodeled and it's going to have oak colored cabinets and beigeish porcelain tile for flooring, and a new laminate countertop.

I need something that works with the kitchen elements and the tenants furnishings.

Thanks.

A: Here are some nice, versatile options for rentals:

**Q: What 'almost white' wall did you use?** *(in Home Decorating)*

so almost white is all the rage and there are so many great 'almost white's' out there. From Ben Moore to Sherwin Williams, and Farrow & Ball. I am trying to determine what will look best with my White Dove Trim as I'm determined to jump on this wagon. Currently I'm testing out Classic Gray and Calm. Plan on testing Dove Wing tomorrow. I feel like I could go even lighter and it'll look great. What say you?

A: Here are some of our most popular whites: White Picket Fence DET648, Whisper DEW340, Cool December DEW383, Droplets DEW381
