From Concept to Completion \| Architectural Renderings for Design Conversations on Interiors and Exteriors.

Nistenhaus Design LLC (est. 2015), is a full-service design company focusing primarily on interior services but also with experience in large-scale architectural projects from start to finish. We want to provide true turn-key services for your new or existing homes and businesses.

Nistenhaus is the solution to a question we are constantly asking ourselves; how can we provide meaningful design at the level of service that is unique to each client?
Back to the drawing board.

One of the most integral parts of the Nistenhaus design process is when we take the time to flesh out our ideas on paper before any cuts are made or materials bought. We are first and foremost focused on the conversations about architectural element’s ability to enhance a room, as well as the statement of the entire home, or building.

Taking the time to sit down and work through all the different design possibilities while keeping the project – as a whole – in mind, allows us to deliver the best solution and maintain the allotted budget for each particular phase of the larger project.

Our focus is fully on placing our clients in the best versions of their home, which is truly where our name - Nistenhaus, came from: It literally translates to Nest - & - House in German, which is where the original school of modern design started - or more commonly known as Bauhaus.

> I have been working with Nistenhaus design for the past 8 years on 6 different properties. I consistently get complements on the unique and beautiful style our homes encompass! They provide great overall style options, with vision boards by room as a guide. Our homes have literally completely changed in look, style, configuration, and functionality but providing a fun, functional and comfortable space. Mike and his team are super creative always bringing new and fresh ideas forward and leave me nothing less than fully impressed. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike and his team and have the utmost trust and respect in them. I fully recommend working with them, you will not be disappointed!

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Melissa, it has been a treat to be able to work on multiple properties over the years, and has allowed us to envision something unique at every juncture. Your ability to make quick decisions allowed us to move forward with confidence and showcase what our office can provide on quick turnarounds. We look forward to our next partnership!

**★★★★★ — Abe Steurer, April 2024**

> They’re brilliant, kind, and on top of their game. We were fortunate enough to be able to pursue a total gut and rebuild of our kitchen and bath, and they were able to work their magic unrestrained. First, they elegantly solved the matter of feng shui in our awkwardly laid out kitchen on the second floor of our narrow century home. Then we enjoyed the aesthetics phase of our design meetings. They always proposed a variety of options, but I’m not sure it was ever necessary. They knew what we wanted better than we did, and our feedback was rarely anything other than “wow, we love that”. The style is captivating, timeless, and unique. Finally came the action phase of our renovation. The nature of our work required nearly every type of tradesman, especially with having to accommodate for the unique circumstances of our particular project. Though the coordination of it all was quite complex, they were communicative and flexible with us. Most importantly, they handled all the details while we focused on our lives and watched patiently as the work came to fruition.
>
> In the end, we couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. No regrets whatsoever. Admittedly, we made no compromises and paid the appropriate costs for our bougie project (which they prepared us for from the beginning), but this was an investment that has paid dividends in joy and will continue to yield happiness every day for many more years to come. Thank you so much Michael, Justin, and the Nistenhaus team!

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Abe, thank you for the kind words! Your project was a highlight for our office, in a variety of ways. Your trust in the process allowed us to envision and execute something special for your home. Century Houses can create unique challenges in any situation, but the final result feels like a space that was always there, only amplified. Your continued patience gave us the flexibility to deliver a project that everyone involved can be proud of, and we hope you enjoy your abode for a very long time!

**★★★★★ — Myers Dill, March 2024**

> Justin and Mike were awesome at creating a vision for our first floor remodel and further making that vision come to life. We are most impressed by the originality in the project. The Nistenhaus team came up with designs we didn't know we needed because we had never seen something like it. Very thoughtful, practical layout that we use (and love) daily. We will be back for future projects.

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Myers, it was wonderful to see the transformation of your already lovely first floor into something that felt unique and appropriate for the style of your home. You trusted our office with some big swings we had envisioned, and we're very happy to hear how much you enjoy it!

**★★★★★ — Michael Heath, March 2024**

> I’ve worked with Nistenhaus on 2 renovation projects now. 1 for my personal home and the 2nd was a flip. Michael and his team were a pleasure to work with and really helped me create some beautiful homes. Looking forward to working with your group again!

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Michael, we're honored that you entrusted us with not only your personal home, but a collaboration on one of your business ventures! It allowed us to try something different that hopefully the new homeowners will enjoy for years to come.

**★★★★★ — Seth A., March 2024**

> We’ve been working with the Nistenhaus team for over 7 years. We started with help on furniture and paint in our old apartment. In 2017, we moved into our first home where the Nistenhaus team helped us complete a gut rehab of our single story home to craft a gorgeous award winning kitchen (Best Use of Color award) and complete a full lower level build out that included a luxurious primary bedroom, beautiful bathroom, and cozy entertainment space. They’ve now helped us select our latest home and have been instrumental in turning it into our favorite space to date. Inviting anyone to provide input on your home and style is a very special action. Michael, Justin, and the Nistenhaus team do an outstanding job of blending our two aesthetics while keeping us on task and budget. They’re a full service firm who knows how to take care of their clients. If you’re looking for design that is artful and considerate with quality implementation, Nistenhaus should be your first call.

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Thanks, Seth! It's been a pleasure being able to work on several iterations. Each version has been an opportunity to refine what makes you feel the most at home, while incorporating new values and sophistication into the design. We look forward to each new assignment!

**★★★★★ — George Botonis, Sept. 2020**

> I have worked with this group on a few different occasions. I will start by saying don’t look any further, no matter if you’re looking for some advice on a upcoming project or a complete rehab, these guys and gals will get you on the right path. I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them. Mike and Shelly helped with the rehab of my 134-year-old home. They turned it from an eyesore to something people can’t go down the street without stopping to look at, and they made the inside look even better than the outside.
> They have helped me on my rentals and other rehabs as well. I’ve been playing with the idea of building a new home and, you guessed it, they will be the first group I go to for help.
> If you’re looking for someone to help you get a project done and that responds quickly, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable, you’ve pick the right group. I couldn’t say enough good things about working with Nistenhaus.

**★★★★★ — Todd & George Murray/Astudillo Chacon, July 2020**

> We entrusted Nistenhaus with our major home renovation, and it was one of our best decisions. We wanted our home to feel like us, but better! We could not have imagined the way it turned out, especially our main kitchen, bathrooms & all 85 light fixtures! Their solutions for the layout and their suggestions for materials and colors helped us seamlessly blend each room of our home. While we may have had too much input and too many changes, they were professional in listening to us and offering better solutions, We are already looking forward to working with them on our next project.

**★★★★★ — Kristyn Brennan, March 2020**

> Mike and Justin are awesome design professionals with phenomenal vision. Their kitchen remodels are unique and solid design; I love collaborating with Nistenhaus and providing product for their projects!

**Comment from Nistenhaus Design LLC:**

> Thanks Kristyn, for the kind words! Your knowledge of the product has allowed us to push the envelope of creative design, while keeping the budget in-check!

**★★★★★ — HU-753705626, Nov. 2019**

> Nistenhaus Design never ceases to impress me with their dedication to following through with a project according to the client’s desires, while at the same time leading the client in a direction that allows them to make the best decisions for their desired outcome.

**★★★★★ — Aaron Speropoulos, May 2018**

> My wife and I have used Michael & Justing (aka Nistenhaus) on a number of projects over the past three years. Originally, they helped us design our master suite. Then, we loved that project so much we paid them to come in and design & decorate our main living space while we were gone in Munich. When we came back from that long international flight, it was an extra special moment I’ll always remember. We stepped into a brand new version of our home, and loved every last detail they added to it.
>
> Our second major project was when we brought them into renovating our first investment property. They actually came into the mix before the purchase to let us know what things would cost so we could make the best decision about the investment. Once we closed on the property, they were in the next week measuring and planning the new kitchen layout and showing us color swatches. It was important to us to stay within budget, and get this renovation wrapped up as quick as possible so we could get it on the market and rented. They nailed it! We came in a few thousand under budget, with everything we planned on doing and were basically talking ourselves out of moving in ourselves!
>
> We can’t say enough great things about Nistenhaus! They understand how to meet every need and want and keep within budget. They gave us pushback at the appropriate times if we would get ahead of ourselves and it was something that would take us over budget. Or, if they didn’t really think something would work well with the rest of the plan, they gave us their professional opinion and offered better options in return.
>
> I think the biggest part about working with them is feeling confident in their decisions. Occasionally we’d have something we weren’t necessarily liking, but all in all we trusted their decisions because they understood our style and aesthetic after our first meeting or two.
>
> Communication throughout the whole process was seamless and not overwhelming at all. My wife and I discussed a number of times how we always felt informed and part of the project, but never overwhelmed or annoyed by “too much communication”. As a business owner myself, I think that’s a tough thing to pull off. But they handled it beautifully.
>
> Their next project with us is an overhaul of my home office space. And after that, other rental properties until the big one comes: a new construction of our dream home in the CWE!
>
> We love these guys! They deserve their own tv show!

**★★★★★ — Becky Beach, Feb. 2018**

> We have been very pleased with the work Mike and Justin have done for us. Our home was beautiful for Christmas, thanks to Mike's creative eye and our outdoor space is great.

**★★★★★ — David Nall, Feb. 2018**

> Mike and Justin at Nistenhaus Design, LLC are outstanding!! I had the pleasure of working with them on a LARGE historic renovation in Lafayette Square and they were not only good to work with as design team, but provided sound input throughout the process with my construction crews that were doing the hands-on work on the home. I would recommend them without reservation to anyone needing a savvy design team to help with project layout, kitchen design, color selections, fixture selections, etc.

**★★★★★ — Laura Wyrock, Jan. 2018**

> I have used Nistenhaus Design for multiple projects in my home including: kitchen, den, great room, master bath, and basement rec room. The team has been able to bring a design element to my home I could have never have completed on my own, despite my exhaustive efforts. Both Michael and Justin have great ideas. They can solve architectural and design dilemmas by bringing scale and perspective to any area of the home lacking interest including the large one and two story spaces no one knows what to do with. The two story art installation in my great room is one example of beauty and intrigue added to a 20 ft tall blank wall. It is now my favorite thing to look at in my home. I receive compliments on the décor and design of my home all the time. I do believe Nistenhaus will take the lead on planning of the new home sometime in the fall. Thank you again for all your hard work.

**★★★★★ — Kristina C, Nov. 2016**

> We've hired Nistenhaus on three occasions.
> The first was to decorate our new home, which had an open concept and had gotten overwhelming to me. We've traveled the world over and have an interesting mix of items we wanted displayed. Mike and Justin had their hands full pulling it off on our budget. But they did a great job.
> We were so happy with their work, we hired them again to design our lower level build out. They handled all the plans and worked with the contractors to execute it beautifully and on a tight deadline.
> More recently, we hired them to help us update an investment property we purchased. We were on a tight budget for this project, and they did a great job maximizing every dime. (They were also honest with us about what was possible with our tight budget and timeline.) They selected paint, light fixtures, etc. We had 10 families show up to our open house and many apply to rent the house, so we were able to pick a top-notch renter because we had a great, stylish place to offer.
> I appreciate that Nistenhaus works within almost any budget and pulls both designer items in with things from Target. Because its such a great mix, no one notices.
> Most of all, I love their attention to detail. And they are just quality people, generous and appreciative of their clients.
> I already have my next project planned and they are an important part of that plan.

**★★★★★ — Tania Rakel, Nov. 2016**

> Mike had helped me update my house and get it ready to sell! He had great ideas that were always on budget! We were able to communicate very well and Mike understood the vision that I had for the house transformation. The house sold right away!
>
> Currently, we are working with Mike on architecture design ideas and interior/exterior decorating for our new home. He has done a great job meeting with us at various appointments, suggesting vendors, and coordinating all colors and materials to make sure the vibe of the house is exactly what we are looking for. Can't wait to see how this project turns out!

**★★★★★ — Ellen Hunter, Nov. 2016**

> Mike and Justin were great to work with. They listened to what we thought we wanted and brought new ideas that were amazing. My Fireplace is something my entire neighborhood is looking to do.... Highly recommend them!!!

**★★★★★ — Kate Pfeiffer, Nov. 2016**

> What can I say, Mike and Justin have completely transformed our cookie-cutter subdivision house into a stylish yet cozy home that truly reflects our taste! We still have some work to do but wouldn't dream of asking anyone else to help with any future projects!

**★★★★★ — Brian Pfeiffer, Nov. 2016**

> We have worked with Nistenhaus on many projects for our home, but our Kitchen was by far our largest project. From the beginning, Nistenhaus went above and beyond. Their design was exactly what we were looking for and gave my wife and I a great sense of relief, as we knew they listened to exactly what we wanted. They made finding the right contractor and product extremely easy and affordable. They were there every step of the way and their communication with us and all contractors kept the project on time. My wife and I love our new kitchen and hardwood floors and have recommended them to many friends and family.

**★★★★★ — Paula Bauer, Nov. 2016**

> Justin and Mike are both great to work with. I am a painter and they are both good communicators so it is always easy to get my job done. The jobs we have worked on together have all been gorgeous when completed. They also work with carpenters that do an excellent job. I would definately recommend them!!!

**★★★★★ — Leanne Waugh, Nov. 2016**

> I used Nistenhaus design to redecorate my living room (new furniture, paint colors, rug, etc.) change the floors and backsplash in my kitchen and update my kitchen (new wallpaper, rug). I am very pleased with the results. For each decision, Mike provided 3-4 suggestions. This was a great decision making model for me as I would have been overwhelmed otherwise. I appreciate the attention to detail, the creative ideas and the resources that Nistenhaus Design brought to this project.

**★★★★★ — Hamtil Construction, LLC, Nov. 2016**

> Michael and Justin are a pleasure to work with. They have great vision, keen eye for detail, and the spaces they design are beautiful! We have had the opportunity to work with Nistenhaus on several projects, and are happy to recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Sharon McDevitt, Nov. 2016**

> Nistenhaus were the designers hired to renovate the master bathroom, first floor powder room, and to create two unique wall spaces in the living room. Due to their knowledge in both design and architecture, their ability to "eye" the given space really stood out. My personal taste, existing artifacts and the materials researched by Nistenhaus all came together to create warm, interesting and inviting spaces. My budget was always in the forefront. Thanks, for a job well done.

**★★★★★ — Sabrina Padgett, Nov. 2016**

> The Nistenhaus gentleman are outstanding. They are fun to do business with and have great style. No two projects look alike. They really listened to what we wanted and made our house look like it belonged in a magazine. It was still OUR style, which was amazing. They are also hardworking and efficient. The projects they completed with us were done in no time.

 - Description: Move aside boring pastels, uninteresting minimalism, and trendy standards! Stylish statements and mood delivered in rich layers and textures? – YES. This project had the perfect design trifecta of: clients that are collectors of antique furniture and modern art, gobs of gorgeous original woodwork and detailing, and the clients’ trust & want for that maximalist ‘WOW’-factor. Inspiration abounded. We designed each room tells its own story, and yet, unified the overall look of the entire home with…

We strategically configured the layout of their kitchen from one that was disjointed and crammed with an island, to a peninsula layout that actually offered more workspace, storage space, and an entertaining eat-in area. Not only did they gain more functional space, but also a kitchen design that feels grand in its visual statements. Despite a smaller footprint of this kitch…

We carefully preserved the ornate historic details while shifting the floorplan slightly to make the home truly livable, functional, and modernized. The most prominent and extensive areas of this design were the kitchen and bathrooms. The existing kitchen was expanded by pushing back one of the existing walls, and the room where the master bathroom is now was a former parlor room that requir…

It is rare to find a client who often is so interested in color and the exuberant use of it throughout, that it becomes more of a balance of finding a way to still provide potency to the strong array that is displayed. With the owner having an affinity for the New Orleans flair, the design cues became clear for a deep, moody palette of wood finishes, graphic patterns, and warm hues of brass, amber, and copper. Due to the nature of this being both a kitchen and an entry point to the home, great care was placed in making the space inviting, while also trying not to compromise the overall storage capabilities and workflow…

A beautiful high-ceiling living room that was too bright to enjoy and lacked a conversational furniture layout. 3. An uninviting, dull dining room that lacked formality for entertaining. - Description: A contemporary condo tucked between city blocks. A ‘sister-property’ to West End Investment, this two-story boring, dated townhome needed an update to draw that sophisticated renter looking for stylish urban living. Walls were blown out to expand the kitchen area and make the entire space more open. The client opted for a broad-plank LVT with interesting muted wood grain throughout the first floor. The light fixtures selected play off the sleek, modern, yet playful vibe. But the real star of the…

 - Description: To accompany the exposed brick in this urban living room, a slightly-industrial & urban-transitional look was achieved with elements like the iron/wood furniture & bar top, original iron fireplace covering, and open metal shelving. The dark gray mantel treatment and navy leather wing-back chair add a richness while the lighter contemporary rug and curtains brighten up to the space.

 - Description: Frequently traveling to their other home in New Orleans, these clients wanted their second home in St. Louis to be a fun and colorful space to entertain and relax with their friends. We gave this home an updated fresh & funky vibe through strategic paint choices and a mix of modern & eclectic finishes. Since entertaining in the space is key, we gave purpose to the open sitting room off of the kitchen by creating a bar area. Upper cabinets were removed and replaced with a large mirror backsplash…

Thank you!

A: Home Depot - Marque Suede Grey

**Q: Great flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi! We are looking for a similar floor tile. Do you know what you used? Thanks!

A: JK...mid read that, the floor tile was also from the Tile Shop...and that I can’t remember off the top without contacting our rep - it is very pretty in person though.

If you have one of those in your area, I could probably coordinate something.

Mike
