**★★★★★ — Rachel Ozerkevich, Feb. 2017**

> Ruth has an incredible eye for color and a clean, bright aesthetic. She pays attention to the kinds of small details that make the biggest differences--think heated bathroom floors and clever built-in storage. I plan on having her design any and every space I live in!

> Ruth was able to translate what I thought I wanted into an actuality with practical, careful and thoughtful guidance. Making choices was easy because I was given the right ones to choose from. The bottom line is she helped me get what I wanted without imposing her own agenda and without breaking the bank. I'm q happy, repeat customer and would highly recommend her services.

> Ruth Zimerman designed two very different spaces- one 3-story house and one condo- for me, between 2009 and 2014. She coordinated paint colours, textiles, and furnishings for a variety of rooms, including my main living spaces and my daughter’s and my bedrooms. She also helped us to effectively stage the condo, when we later sold it.
>
> I was very impressed with Ruth’s work. She knows how to listen; though she made many suggestions, she did not impose her own aesthetic on us, but drew up plans based on our tastes, preferences, and circumstances. As I was raising two children, she helped me create warm, family-friendly rooms that still had the elegance and company-proof vibe I craved. She was also flexible in incorporating favourite pre-existing pieces of ours- if we said something mattered, she worked around it.
>
> Ruth excels in organization. I am not a natural organizer, and so appreciated her suggestions and methods for grouping books, papers, clothes, etc. Ruth creates rooms that work.
> She also keeps client information on file between jobs, which was a huge help to me when we moved.
>
> Ruth is calm and inventive on big projects, and equally invested in small ones, which I appreciated. I was never made to feel that a smaller project (e.g.: my daughter’s new closet) mattered less than Ruth’s larger assignments.
>
> Ruth has such a pleasant personality- straightforward and smart, but very kind- that I came to consider her a friend; I looked forward to our meetings. Yet Ruth never lost her professionalism- she was prompt, courteous, and reliable from start to finish. She knew which contractors to call and maintained excellent relationships with them, so that I was never troubled by problems in getting work completed. For this alone, I recommend working with Ruth- negotiating with contractors is not, for many of us, a favourite activity!
>
> In short, I highly recommend Ruth Zimerman as an interior designer.

## Community Q&A

**Q: where can i buy this bar cart** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry for the delay, Liza. You can buy it at Elte Carpets and Furnishings although I didn't find it on their site just now so I don't know if it's still available. I think it was called the Deco bar cart.

**Q: Make my front entry inviting!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is our lake house. Before and after. While we removed an ugly awning over the front door and added new paint color we have several obstacles to an inviting entry.
Problem 1) no place for landscaping
2\) propane tank
3\) two side by side doors, one to house, one to garage
4\) Sloped front patio for rain run off.
5\) Water well head!
Help!

A: Yes, Dar Eckert is right "on the money" with his suggestions and everything but the spelling of my name! But, he is to be forgiven, since it's unusual. Regards, Zimerman. :-)

**Q: Painting perfectly good wood trim?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are buying a small home that was built in 1962. It has wood trim throughout. Would it be a crime to paint it? It would also be a lot of work.

A: High contrast breaks space and makes it look smaller. i would replace the trim with something wider and paint. The baseboards in particular stand out as being too small.
Where do you want your eyes to be drawn? As it is, all you see is what SHOULDN'T be the focus of your attention.
White walls are ok if they are a soft white. What I'm seeing is very sterile looking.
These are general guidelines and my opinion only.
Good luck.
