The Outdoor Kitchen Design Store originally built our backyard before my husband and I owned the house. Although it was incredible in its first & original phase, it needed some long overdue maintenance and a face lift if you will. This past summer when we were ready to revamp we reached out to them to come and give it a look. Michael, the owner, came out and not only showed us how the original design could be brought back to life, but also showed us his vision of adding on additional lights, landscaping and incredible detail. He didn't just try to sell us extras but instead he carefully and thoroughly walked us through how the space could benefit through his suggestions. Although 7 years had passed since he first designed and built our exterior he remember every light, every plant and every stone that was placed. The scope of the work he has done ranges from a total landscape makeover with all new bushes, trees and flowers to masonry upgrades to a completely new and higher functioning outdoor lighting concept. Each aspect of our yard required a different set of employees with skills and knowledge about their trade ie: electricians, masons, landscape designers, botany specialists, laborers etc. There must have been 30 different and new faces at our house all summer. I was so impressed with the level of professionalism and respect that every single one of them maintained through the course of our project. No matter if it was a supervisor who was there each day or a college aged laborer rotating around jobs, each person was polite, courteous and hard working. I spent much of the summer outside with my children and dog and it was a pleasure getting to know some of them. > > The depth and expansion that our outdoor area gained from the team's vision and work is remarkable. A: Always a reason for the elevation change. On the upper terrace level there is a pool house with washer & dryer, bath and shower. The interior kitchen has a dishwasher too all of which goes back to the sanitation system at the house. Obviously the step down out of the kitchen is an exension from the step out of the back door. It was out of necessity and with the upper level outdoor fireplace the elevations work out well. Being a mountainside retreat we were challenged and it turned out to be more than well recepted by the owners. **Q: custom metal awning** *(in Photo Questions)* how do I get this awning planter. I love it A: I would love to learn more about the overhead planter. **Q: Granite countertop for outdoor kitchen** *(in Kitchens)* We chose a slab of Portofino granite for our outdoor kitchen. The fabricator has let us know that it has microfractures. Will this weaken the granite or require more maintenance? Should we choose another slab? A: Helen a good outdoor kitchen can handle the food prep and thus keeps family and guests out of the personal space of the indoor kitchen. When guests arrive it is always nice to have a buffet server or station mid distance from the indoor kitchen to the outdoor kitchen space inviting guests to drop their food and drink offerings outdoors.
