Atlantic Stone twice installed incorrect tile. The first time they came out the laborer installed the tile in an incorrect pattern. The second time they came out they installed two completely different mismatched tiles together and advised us the drastic difference in color and texture of certain tiles was because the tile was "wet." The tile was not wet, it was a completely different type from what we ordered. They admitted what they did wrong and agreed to redo it again. The third time they came out they installed the tile in the correct pattern, but again installed a handful of completely different and non-matching tiles. We now have a foyer with 20 % correct tile, and 80% non-matching tile. The first two mistakes the company agreed to fix. But now we are stuck with a foyer with two different types of mismatched tile. The last time they came out they must have taken the tile we had rejected that they left stacked in our foyer and some pieces of the newer order of tile and installed them all together. We sent the company pictures and told them about the problem. The VP of the company Chuck Gainey told us the reason the stone tile looks so different is because of natural variations, even though we clearly have mismatched tile on our floor. My wife and I have exchanged numerous emails back and forth with the company's VP Chuck Gainey and Atlantic Stone has refused to correct their latest mistake and they refuse to take any money off our bill. The pictures I posted don't lie, anyone can clearly see that mismatched tiles were put together. After so many attempts we got to a point that we didn't think this company could ever get it right. It took them 3 months to try and complete the project. My wife and I told them they got it wrong again and Chuck said it looked fine. I didn't want to pay them for a mismatched tile floor that looked terrible. We asked them to take money off the bill and they refused. We asked them to redo it and they refused. Chuck is in complete denial about the mismatched tile. I wanted to go to small claims court because I knew we would win. But unfortunately my wife didn't want to go to court and she just wanted this company out of our lives. **Comment from Atlantic Stone:** > We re-did the floor when the original lot didn't match, at our expense. Mr. Rust has stated that he didn't want to have the work done in the first place, but his wife insisted. After completing the job to his wife's satisfaction (I have emails and texts as proof) I sent a final invoice. After 45 days, I contacted them to find out if the check was in the mail. Only then did Mr. Rust get involved, and said he wasn't happy with the work, but that if we gave him a discount, we could "make the whole thing go away". My question was then "If you were unhappy, why didn't you contact us immediately?" When he refused to pay, I prepared all the documents needed to take them to small claims court, and informed them of my intent to pursue the matter in a court of law. At that point, they agreed to pay. Again, if they think we did such a bad job, why not go to court to prove it? We had nothing to hide. I have an extensive email and text thread from Mrs. Rust and myself that shows we did everything according to best practices, and gave great customer service. Thanks for the inquiry! This material is white macaubus. Many fabricators shy away from this material due to the linear grain movement, but we are very comfortable working with it. I really would like some help on a different layout/design to my kitchen. I have been looking at photos of ideas for years but it seems that no one has such a funky shaped kitchen like I do. A: I agree with travisinteriors ^. Keep in mind when you add the overhang on the island that granite will typically support its own weight out to 12" overhang if it is counterbalanced, and in this case it certainly will be. If you need support, I'd suggest skipping corbels, which will get in the way and you will bang your knees on them. Metal brackets mortised into the cabinet will support the stone nicely, and will be hidden. Good luck with your project! **Q: Need help finding a backsplash that would accent my granite countertop** *(in Design Dilemma)* My granite counter tops are a mix of beige, brown, and a little of black. I don't know if I should go with a plain colored backsplash like beige or if I can pick a busy backsplash. A suggestion of tiles for the floor would be appreciated too. I don't want a light color for the floor though. Feel free to post pix of any suggestions. Thanks :) A: I'd recommend 3x6 subway tile. Creamy off white. The thin mosaic is going to be too busy, and that style isn't going to be relevant in a year, but the humble subway tile has stood the test of time. Classic and clean. **Q: What stone is this - marble?** *(in Photo Questions)* Thanks! :-) A: Calacatta Gold Marble. These slabs have a honed finish, which is more tolerant of wear and tear. **Q: Need backsplash help** *(in Design Dilemma)* We need to know what is our best bet for laying are tile backsplash by the window and under the range hood. Some thoughts were just under the range hood, others were creating a L shape by the left counter to flow into the tile behind the range. We would like to hear other opinions on the matter. Thanks for looking. A: CB Kitchen Designs nailed it. Once you follow their recommendations, I'd also suggest running the tile to the ceiling, wrapping it around the hood. A good tilesetter will have no problem doing that.
