We have been customers of Gerhard’s for almost 30 years. Their Customer service has gone from excellent to poor. We purchased a Frigidaire refrigerator in November 2021. Then in September 2023, in less than 2 years, the water filter started leaking. We were told that Frigidaire guarantees all the parts for only ONE (1 year). So we had to pay to repair the filter. Fast Appliance Repair, a partner of Gerhard’s sent a technician to install the new filter. Instead it leaked worse. On The third trip the technician announced that the compressor is broke and as a result we had to throw out lots of spoiled food. We were told the compressor also had an only a one year warranty and so we had to pay for a new one. The cost is almost as much a new fridge. We wrongly assumed that since it’s a new refrigerator that Frigidaire will stand behind their product especially a major component as a compressor which shouldn’t go bad so soon. We were wrong!!! What’s worse is that both Gerhard’s and Fast Appliance refused to assist us in getting Frigidaire to cover any of the costs for parts or labor. We called Frigidaire directly and after several conversation they agreed to cover the cost for the parts only . > When the compressor and filter arrived, Fast Appliance sent the technician to install and repair the fridge. Instead we were told that the condenser is leaking and we also need a new condenser. Almost 2 months later, we still don’t have a working refrigerator that cost $2,000 and several major components breaking down in less than 2 years. I spoke with several managers at Gerhard’s and Fast Appliance and although they promised to look into the problem and assist us, they never got back to me. **★ — Tod F, Nov. 2023** > We recently purchased a GE dishwasher from Gerhard's; we wanted to buy locally, and since they said that their "installers" were also locally sourced and vetted by them, we figured we'd get a better experience from them than if we went to one of the big box stores. The dishwasher we were looking at was fairly priced, and there were no real issues when purchasing, as we knew what we wanted and the sales person really didn't need to do much "selling". We scheduled a time for the dishwasher to be delivered and installed, and since it'd be better to have it delivered in the afternoon, I requested some time after 12:00pm. > > This was my first issue (albeit not a big one, but an inconvenience worth mentioning to those looking to purchase from Gerhard's): they said that they couldn't put in the actual time of the delivery, but they'd put in there that the afternoon would be better. I get a message the next day that the delivery would be in the morning...I responded to the email stating that I needed it in the afternoon, as no one would be around to receive it in the morning; they told me that they could not control when the unit was going to be delivered, and I'd have to reschedule altogether. That's fine, as it was rescheduled for the next day in the afternoon. > > The installer came, and went about the delivery and installation. All seemed fine, as they tested the installation in front of me, I signed off, and then they went off on their way. This brings me to my next issue: when I tried to open an adjacent cabinet drawer, I found that part of the installation screw had gone into the drawer, and as it opened, gouged out the side of the drawer (see attached pics). These drawers are relatively new, and now one is damaged because of an inept installer. > > My third issue is this: I sent a message to the Gerhard delivery email address telling them what happened, and the response I got was that they would have to have the installer contact me; this SCREAMS to me "We don't stand behind our work", and that's a HUGE red flag for me. Needless to say, the installer never reached out. I waited a week, then I called the Gerhard's Customer Service line and told them what happened - they transferred me to their Delivery department, who then told me that...they need to have the installer contact me. Again, after another week, I received no response. > > Buyer beware when dealing with them that once the sale is made, you are pretty much on your own to fix any issues. If you're handy and can install these yourself, you may have no issues with them...but if you're like most homeowners dealing with purchasing and installing an appliance, you may want to go somewhere else for a better experience. **★★★★★ — Mary Anne Nevin, Sept. 2023** > I purchased a stack washer and dryer that unfortunately had some problems. I called customer service and spoke with Rosa. She was amazing. Listened to the problem and made some suggestions. The problem continued and Rosa stayed with me. She told me her name, her phone extension. She was calm and caring and called my sales person Rebecca, who also was wonderful. Sometimes, appliances can come from the mfg broken but when the store you purchased it from is this helpful to the point of solving the problem you feel very good about future purchases and recommendations. thank you all for resolving this situation. > P.S. the young men who delivered the unit were polite and they put us at ease. **★ — HU-678984439, July 2022** > Gerhards did a poor electrical range installation back in 2019 that lead to the unit prematurely failing today in July of 2022. Their technician violated the Electrical code and installed the range with a plug buried behind an outlet which is a fire hazard and in this case caused the wire on the terminal block to melt. If not for the breaker successfully tripping this could have been a much more serious problem. After explaining this to Gerhards and providing proof with pictures and notes from the Master Electrician who when out to fix their mistake on this now emergency electrical repair. I was treated rudely by Sally a sales associate who told me to reach out to the manger Anthony and Christina and gave me their emails as she actually laughed at me when I left (unreal). The mangers Anthony and Christina were unwilling to swap the range for a new one as recommend by the electrician. They were only willing to offer a $50 discount for me to buy a new one. Needless to say I will be going elsewhere to buy a new range. > > I caution ⚠️ anyone who is thinking about having Gerhards install your items. **★ — E, Nov. 2021** > I would give them a zero if Houzz would let me. We renovated our kitchen and bought all new appliances from Gerhard's. We made the mistake of buying their extended warranty. A couple years later, something went wrong with the oven, so I called them to activate our warranty. They told me that we had covered everything but the oven, which seemed odd to me, but the appliances had been delivered to my contractor to install, so I had no receipt showing me what was covered, so I had to take their word for it. A few months later, we had issues with the microwave, so I called them to get it fixed. The person I talked to this time told me that we'd covered everything (including the oven) except the microwave. I had them check multiple times and each person now gave the story that we'd covered everything but the microwave. We dealt with the microwave repair, as we had with the oven, on our own. We did send them the bill for our oven repair since they were now saying it was covered. Almost a year later, we have not been reimbursed. Now, I get a mailing from their warranty company New Leaf, telling me that my warranty is going to expire soon and don't I want to renew it. The mailer lists all the covered appliances, which include both my oven AND microwave. **★★★★★ — Laura Keyser, May 2021** > I went to their location in Glenside. I rarely write reviews, but I was so impressed by the level of service that I had to write this and tell anybody else who is looking for appliances that this is the place to go. I had tried all the big box stores (i.e. home depot, owes, etc) I couldn't even find someone to help me ensure I was getting the right size appliances. I walked into Gerhards and found a much larger store than I had anticipated. Three stories of display models. There was also a full team of people at the desk, ready and available to help me. I purchased the appliances I needed and the delivery was prompt and on-time. My plumber installed the store and there was an issue with the regulator. Not sure if the device was defective or the plumber just cranked the connection too hard and broke it. Gerhards was great. They went out of their way to get me a new one the very same day. No charge, no questions asked. There was a second issue in that the dishwasher had a very small dent in it. That to may have been from the plumber not being careful when installing it. Again, Gerhards sent out a new faceplate and installed it free of charge, no hassle. I highly recommend Gerhards. For real.
