**★★★★★ — luluthedog, Dec. 2015**

> I couldn't be more pleased about the design and service I received from Brooks and Kaitlin at Dunn Architecture Studio, and would recommend them without hesitation. They took my idea of building a very utilitarian guest house in an existing driveway, and turned it into an exceptional home that should be in Dwell magazine. Great outside-the-box thinkers, respectful of my budget, and incredibly thoughtful in design. They turn potential limitations into creative opportunities.
>
> Brooks and Kaitlin were hands-on the whole way through my project, and were consummate diplomats helping me navigate through some really rough spots with my contractor. They were always timely in getting back to me if I had questions and were on-site often to make sure construction was up to par. They took the design all the way through to the permit process until it was ready to issue, and were savvy and knowledgeable on getting the answers we wanted from the permit office.
>
> I could go on and on about these guys, but suffice to say, I couldn't be happier and have a home that exceeded my expectations by a long shot.

**★★★★★ — maizedevco, April 2015**

> Maize Development Co. hired WDA to design and oversee construction of a spec home in the Mt. Olympus neighborhood of Los Angeles. The design was so captivating that as it became realized, a prospective buyer made a pre-emptive record setting bid for this neighborhood before the house was completed.. The house can currently be seen as a sold property on http://thealtmanbrothers.com/. WDA provided excellent detailed review of all of monthly bills of the general contractor and all subs to be sure that the house was being built true to the plans. WDA provided excellent value for the amount charged for their services.

**★★★★★ — Melainie Mansfield, Sept. 2013**

> Whitten Dunn Architects cares about your project as if they were planning to live in the home they are helping to design and construct. They stay ahead of pacing items and dig in to resolve complicated issues. Excellent ideas on product sourcing and trends. Great contractor introductions. And all at a competitive cost. Highly recommend. We went from having the least attractive house on the block to the house that causes traffic disruption because people are looking at it and saying nice things! Well done guys.

**★★★★★ — sbci1ms, Sept. 2013**

> Shramek Building Company, inc. built the Mansfield project in Manhattan Beach in 2012-2013. Working closely with Brooks was a pleasure not only was the contemporary design fresh, the material choices were very compatible with the environment and the neighborhood. Brooks attention to detail made working with them effortless. They have years of experience as I had worked with with Alec on a contemporary house over 13 years ago.

**★★★★★ — cutehedgehog, Aug. 2013**

> This was a fabulous job. My house went from merely OK to better than my wildest dreams. I now have a new, bright larger kitchen with a separate laundry room, a bathroom and walk-in closet in the master bedroom, a closet that creates a foyer and display niches for my collection of Pueblo pottery and Navajo rugs.

  - Description: Devlin Residence Los Angeles, CA Completed November 2022 Located high above the Sunset Strip, this home is conceived of as both an object to be viewed in the landscape and a platform from which to enjoy the panoramic view of the Los Angeles Basin. On a clear day, that view stretches from Downtown Los Angeles to Palos Verdes and Catalina beyond. The hill below the home is planted in California native wildflowers. The L shaped footprint of the home conceals the back yard from the adjacent street.…

  - Description: Southern California Completed Summer 2021 The project site is a slightly pie shaped, lakeside lot in Southern California. Our clients requested that the home have a strong street presence and that the interior entertaining spaces open to the lake. Three materials: Equitone fiber-cement panels, stone and white stucco define the exterior of the home. The volume of the guest suite on the first floor is the only volume canted to align with the northeast property line. The roof monitor over the stair…

  - Description: Shift House Los Angeles, CA Completed December 2022 The project is an expansion and major renovation of an existing 1946 two story home. The original builder elected to orient the existing home on a true north-south axis rather than parallel to the adjacent street grid. This decision by the original builder created irregular exterior spaces around the house on site and an interesting relationship between the home and its neighbors. The existing home needed new windows, a new roof and new siding.…

  - Description: The project site presented a rare opportunity: an unbuilt hillside lot with expansive city and canyon views and a large, level building pad. Ground floor spaces gather around the backyard & pool. The bedrooms on the second floor are oriented to maximize the views of the Los Angeles Basin and Laurel Canyon. Large expanses of glass blur the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing the owners to take advantage of both the views and the southern California climate. A roof deck will allow a s…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The project is a major renovation of and an addition to a midcentury home with fantastic views and an unfortunate layout. The original approach to the home involved walking up the driveway, past a decrepit carport, under the house to an exterior stair and finally to the front door which faced the side yard. The front door opened directly into a dark kitchen. The kitchen and living room did have a lovely post and beam structure and excellent views, but the cabinets and appliances were dated. Even…

  - Description: The owner wished to update the façade and portions of the interior of one unit in a duplex originally built in 1997. The existing façade was dated and had suffered in the harsh ocean climate. The original kitchen was dark, inefficiently planned and isolated from the main living space on the third floor. DAS brought order to the façade through the use of material and subtle reworking of the door openings. The ipe garage doors and Jerusalem Stone walls give the building a base with a strong presen…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: Our client asked us to update and reconfigure a two bedroom condominium in a 1971 Allyn Morris building for her 93 year old mother and her mother’s care givers. The existing unit had good views of Echo Park Lake, but dated finishes gave it a dark and oppressive feeling. All fixtures and finishes were replaced. Genevieve’s bathroom was enlarged and adapted for wheelchair access and to provide space for her care givers to assist her as necessary. Her bathroom is designed as a wet room, there is no…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This major renovation of an existing 4200 sq. ft. two bedroom residence updated a 1937 house that had several, renovations over the course of its life. In order to make the house suitable for its new owner, DAS stripped away the surface ornament dating from the early eighties and used a warm material palette to unify the interior. New basalt floors were installed in the entry and master bath, the existing distressed wood floors were planed, sanded and stained. New amenities including the bar in…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This residence is a 1940’s California bungalow with mostly original features, owned since 1975 by the current client. We were tasked with enlarging and brightening the kitchen, adding a bathroom and walk-in closet to the master bedroom, renovating the existing bathroom, adding storage, and displaying the client’s collection of Native American pottery and rugs, without adding any square-footage. A simple material palette creates harmony between new and existing spaces. All base cabinets are float…

  - Description: When the owners of this residence were faced with necessary foundation repairs, they took it as an opportunity to add to and reconfigure the interior of this approximately 1200 sq. ft., 1951 Venice bungalow. In the process they also wished to redefine the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces of the house. The existing galley kitchen did not allow the owners to entertain in the manner they would like and sat as a barrier between the living spaces of the house and the backyard. Th…
