John Herder has a natural passion for building. He is a fourth generation builder, and was born and raised in a family with generations of knowledge. This has served to greatly set him apart from the rest of the building community.

In the early 90’s, John was one of the pioneers of the first Green Home 21 in Tucson – a home built well before its time, which offered all of the green features which have come to be expected, such as recycled windshields used for tile, recycled plastic soda bottles for the carpet, and more.

Today, he and his wife Paulette have spent nearly 30 years building a solid business, with old fashioned values and a stellar reputation which will succeed them for the next generation of Herder builders. Having nearly 500 homes under their belts, the Herders take pride with every home they build as if it were their own.

They are committed to using the best construction technologies, products, and techniques available, and their integrity and honesty are as much the core value of their lives as the underlying engineering principles and aesthetics are the core of a great home.

Creating exciting living environments is the passion of the Herder family. John Herder Building is adaptable to a variety of home styles, whether you like Western Ranch; Spanish Colonial; Contemporary; Rustic; or Industrial Urban, they assure you that keeping in touch with your choice of architecture will be a reflection of you and your lifestyle with truly unique details.

> We are so fortunate to have had our dream home built by the AMAZING Herder Building Company. Our experience has been ALL POSITIVE while we have been allowed to CREATE + choose all the key aspects of our home. Not only does Herder Building use ONLY BEST QUALITY products, they also insist on the BEST processes + standards. If you are wanting to build your DREAM home, you should look no further. There will be very little EXTRA costs that one normally sees with upgrades here as the majority of choices have already been upgraded per the HERDER quality of products. We immensely enjoyed meeting & working with John + Paulette Herder.
> This is the fourth brand new home for us in the past 18 years and by far the most EXCELLENT product of all of them!!!

> As a real estate professional with over 10 years of experience I've worked with numerous builders and seen thousands of homes, but John Herder Building stands above the rest both in terms of quality homes & ethical practices. Honesty and integrity are attributes that John Herder displays in every interaction. He stands behind his extremely high quality of construction and his word. I've had the privilege to see his homes being constructed and witnessed firsthand his meticulous attention to detail & quality building techniques. John not only produces an extremely good looking product, but the materials & craftsmanship behind the walls that people don't see, is far superior to just about every other builder in town. If quality and honesty are important to your job, then look no further than the team of John & Paulette Herder!

> We've been in our new home just over a year and are more pleased than ever with how it turned out. The quality is excellent and the workmanship beyond reproach.

> The best experience we have ever had building a new home. This design and build team of John and Paulette Herder was such a pleasure to work with, easy and smooth process. We highly recommend John Herder Building to anyone looking for quality...above all else. Their ideas and suggestions made all the difference with the final outcome of our dream home. Cheers to a job well done!

> We love our Herder home and chose John Herder construction because we knew we would have a home of the best quality provided. We were not disappointed! John made our dreams a reality and was completely willing to work with us on the design changes we wanted. The result is a home that is exactly what we wanted! We are completely thrilled with the end result thanks to John and his team.

> We moved into our new John Herder home on January 8th 2017 and after three and a half weeks we could not be happier! Our home is SO much nicer than we ever expected. In addition to the obvious, we keep finding little extra touches that please us even more.
>
> John and Paulette Herder were great to work with over the last year. They helped us find a building lot, decide on a model, and John walked the site with us to situate the house before any construction actually started. Although we started with a standard model John was happy to do any modifications we asked for and everything turned out great.
>
> Paulette helped us every step of the way with selection of tile, hardware, appliances, window treatments, etc. and she was a joy to work with. As with any new house there were a few minor items needing follow-up after we moved in and their after-sale support has been excellent.
>
> The work crews and sub-contractors for John Herder Building were all personable and happy to explain what they were doing and why. The tile work inside and the masonry work on the exterior can only be described as works of art.
>
> Overall we are 100% satisfied with our choice of builder! We love our Herder House!

**Comment from John Herder Building:**

> You guys are awesome and equally great to work with. You are some of the nicest people we have met. It's folks like you that make our job fun and rewarding. You did such a terrific job with all your selections and incorporating all the special touches that make this home "your home".

> John Herder Building constructs outstanding semi-custom homes. John and Paula make an excellent team and work together from the initial planning through completion of construction. They are bright, creative people who listen and respond to clients. The outcome is an amazing home on time at the cost you expect. The construction is of high quality and the finishes are outstanding; they even assist with interior design to complement the character of your home, if desired. Our punch list at the end contained only one item which was tied to a special light fixture, which they too addressed when we took possession. Herder Building stands behind their work even after the warranty period. Great people and a great home!

> When looking to build our 4th and final home in Tucson, AZ, John Herder Building got the most recommendations for real quality, attention to details, good listener, having the knowledge and experience to solve problems and deliver everything we wanted in our custom home. Real quality is always cheaper in the long run. That's John Herder's specialty. Our expectations were far exceeded by everyone in the John Herder Building team.

**★★★★★ — abaumrucker, April 2015**

> John Herder built us a 2,050 sq. ft home last year in Tucson while we were at our summer home in WA. Before departing Tucson in April 2014 his wife, Paulette, helped us in picking out colors, flooring, counter tops, cabinets and other design features. Returning to Tucson in November 2014, we took possession of our new home. It is all and more than we expected. The finish work, attention to detail and followup with items has been phenomenal. We are extremely pleased with the house and it's features.
> We would recommend John Herder to anyone building a home in Tucson.

**Comment from John Herder Building:**

> Thank you for the kind words. We feel equally fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with two of the nicest people. You made our job easy AND enjoyable!

> My husband and I stumbled into the area when we were looking to relocate to Tucson 2 years ago. We had bought a new construction from a mass builder 20+ years ago so we had some knowledge on new constructions. But talk about the quality.....
>
> John had explained details of what to expect and his philosophy of building with new technology. We were pretty impressed with him and his foresight. I have saved a lot of money on heating during the winter months. The quality of the construction is excellent. Even my relative who is in plumbing business was so impressive and amazed on the details of the tiles, cabinets, bathroom......
>
> Needless to say, we are very happy with John Herder Building. From my interaction with other home owners in the area, some had bought more than one house from them. If I ever need to build another one, I will certainly hire them again. Great Job!

> After thoroughly researching custom home building in Tucson, Arizona, I was convinced that John Herder Building was the best in the business in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, aesthetics of the homes I saw, and thoroughness of design. John and Paulette Herder built my home and it is stunning. From the landscaping in the front to the quality and unique design of each room to the beautiful lighting and ceiling beams in every room to the thoughtful conveniences to ease my daily routine to the masterful layout of the house to the fabulous kitchen with its amazing stove and oven, refrigerator and convenient pantry to the incredible stone floor. In addition to the quality of the work and overall design, Paulette Herder has an amazing ability to select just the right interior design and special features that make my home a work of art with the absolute comfort of "home" -- from the amazing Harry Potter door (as my grandchildren have dubbed it) to the stone wall and opposite tin wall entryway to the unique beams in every room to the extras built into the kitchen to the brick wall in my bedroom and the unusual and beautiful showers and bathrooms. The Herders anticipated my needs and ensured they were met. As my children noted upon visiting, "I don't know what it is, Mom, but this house is just you. It's completely open and bright during the day and very cozy and personal in the evening." I smile every time I walk into this -- I absolutely love it.

> John Herder built our first house in 1997. It was our first experience in building a home from the ground up. We are from Alaska so were unfamiliar with stucco houses and the Southwest style of building. Our lot was unusual, situated near a wash, with a magnificent view of the Mountains in the Foothills of Tucson Mountain Park. We lived in this wonderful house for nine happy years.
> In 2006 John built a larger home for us in the same community, we had grandchildren and fine friends who were frequent visitors, so needed more space. We have a large kitchen, dining and living area in this grand house and best of all guest quarters that are attached to the house with its own separate entrance. It's heavenly for everyone!
> The building process for both of these homes couldn't have been better.John has subcontractors that he's used for decades, they're all creative, amiable, trustworthy and hard working craftspeople which results in exceptional homes with John guiding the whole process.
> John's wife, Paulette is an important part of the whole process too, she has a creative eye for interior design which manifests itself in interiors that reflect the wishes of the homeowner. You should see my kitchen!!
> In addition to two homes that were built by the Herders, thy are my friends, I am a huge advocate for them in our community.

## Community Q&A

**Q: looks like you used an indoor shower fixture?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I have been trying to research, to no avail, whether there is an issue with using an indoor shower fixture (like your photo) for an outdoor shower. We live in the Mid-Atlantic, weather wise, and are not near salt water. Thx for the help!

A: I would contact your local plumbing suppliers showroom, like Fergusons. They will likely be able to direct you to the appropriate fixture.

**Q: What kind of wood are the columns made of ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The Vertical posts are Pine.

**Q: What are the corner shelves made of?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The corner shelves are made out of the same tile.

**Q: Color** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this a stain and what is the color called,

A: It is a stain that comes direct from the cabinet manufacturer, called Natural Midnight
