New ficus is wilting and dying.** *(in Design Dilemma)* So a week ago I bought a new ficus at a plant market, it was beautiful and full of leaves. It started dropping leaves, but they told me this would be normal because it was getting used to the new climate. When it started dropping a lot of leaves I started to worry so I did some research and found out that the roots might be rotten or I was overwatering it. I stopped watering it and made sure it was well drained (to my surprise it wasn't the bowl/tray was full of water). A week has now passed and almost all the leaves have fallen off. I remembered when I repotted the ficus that the roots were covered in clay-like mud in a very compact way and so I thought that might be the problem. To check for rotten roots I took the ficus out and had to remove the "clay to see if they were ok, they were. In that process many small little roots broke of. When I repotted the tree the soil was moist but not damp so I did not water it. Right now I'm thinking all is lost because I feel I may have traumatized the tree. The branches have these little green sprouts so that gives me hope but how can one tell if the tree is recovering, and when should I water it again. I don't think weather is a problem its been around 70-78 F these days. Here are some pictures, any help/advice is welcomed. A: I have a ficus that is 40 years old. It has been moved dozens of times, and every time, it loses all of its leaves and goes into shock. Be patient, as mine has ALWAYS come back. Make sure it has very bright light---mine always faces west, and don't overwater it. Keep the faith!! **Q: built a room behind the kitchen window and now have an empty space** *(in Design Dilemma)* A: I worked on a project where the same thing occurred, and we inserted a bronzed mirror. It reflected the light and helped open the space. **Q: Two different plants what are their name?** *(in Design Dilemma)* A: Respectfully disagree. "Jade" is a common name for as many as maybe 100 succulent species. Try looking up the botanic name "Crassula ovuta" which is a "jade" that profoundly resembles the plant on the right. Again, without flowering parts, one cannot be certain of genus and species, which is determined by the use of a "dichotomous key". (I have an undergraduate major in botany and have worked for commercial growers as well as in a university herbarium, housing dead plant collections.) **Q: Empty wall needs help- Family Room** *(in Design Dilemma)* Would appreciate your design suggestions with this wall and empty space. I had bins there for my daughters' toys but are moving them to the basement and would like to add tall bookshelves, but without spending an enormous amount. Any recommendations? I can hunk I need 2 side-by-side bookcases. Open shelving or with doors? Thanks in advance. A: I would recommend open shelves that are wider at the bottom and step back towards the top. Closed in will make the space feel smaller. Coaster Company makes the kind I am describing and they are very inexpensive. **Q: Who is the seller/ manufacturer of coffee table?
