> I bought a light fixture from Crest. They have an amazing selection and the help was extremely knowledgeable. They helped walk me through the options and select the perfect fixture. Installation was easy. They showed up on time and were able to install the light much easier than my husband would have! It was well worth it. I would highly recommend Crest to anyone in the market.

**★★★★★ — Diane Brown, Sept. 2016**

> If they don't have it you don't need it. Both electrical supplies and fixtures are limitless. If special orders are needed it is quick. The new showroom is impressive and inviting. I am most impressed when they locate a difficult item that seems to be out of stock or not produced any more. I have had two such situations where they have produced right on substitutions that work perfectly. The staff especially mike is easy to work with. It is my go to place as a construction manager and multiple home owner.

> Could not be happier with everything....the service...the selection...the follow up! Amy was a joy to work with and provided ideas when I had none. Within 2 hours we had my entire home complete and the results are amazing. The selection of fixtures was vast and met my every need. Crest lighting is my only choice for lighting. Thank you!!

**Comment from Crest Lighting:**

> As an Interior Designer, I look for experts in various areas of the field. Lighting is one of those areas where I need to bounce my ideas and designs off of an expert. I count on Blair King at Crest Lighting to make sure my lighting designs provide enough light and that we are using quality lamps. Even though Blair LOVES Winter, we get along very well and he's always willing to give me some lighting tips! Thanks Blair and Crest Lighting!

**Comment from Crest Lighting:**

> Thanks Kristin! We love your work and really enjoy contributing to your projects!

**★★★★★ — nanuholly, March 2016**

> Beautiful showroom, laid back yet incredibly knowledgeable sales staff, and fantastic selection of fixtures and lighting controls. My sales person went the extra mile, coming out to my house to get a feel for the space and scale and then helping me find the right combination of lighting to make our renovation project really shine! We needed to replace dated ceiling can lights and track lighting with new LED ones, add lighting to highlight special artwork throughout the house, and add landscape lighting outside as well.
> I would definitely recommend Crest Lighting to anyone looking to retrofit existing lighting, or for anyone who is building a new home that needs guidance on placement and design!

**★★★★★ — Sublime Homes, Feb. 2016**

> It's our pleasure to work with you and we love contributing to Sublime's gorgeous projects!

## Community Q&A

**Q: POLL: Do you use cookbooks?** *(in Polls)*

I still have a shelf of cookbooks in my house, but when I think about it, I use maybe one of them regularly. Most often, I use recipes online and read them off my phone or an iPad when I'm cooking. How about you?
VOTE and tell us about it in the comments!

A: I have loved to cook since junior high 50 years ago! I always use cook books and have assembled my own with favorite recipes from my 4 favorite cooking magazines. I have arranged them in three ring binders with dividers. I love having no fail recipes that have been tested in test kitchens and can access them in seconds. They are easy to read, with personal notations in the margins. I also love the recipes written in my grandmother's and mother's handwriting.

**Q: Chandelier Selection** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have an open floor plan in my house with tray ceilings in the living and dining rooms. In those areas, the ceiling is 10' high. The dining room dimensions are 10' x 14.' I have a small - 54" X 34" - antique French refectory dining table. The 23" tall and 25.5" wide chandelier I originally purchased for the dining area looks too small to me. i have found another that I love, the Maxim Fairmont 6 light, which is 32" tall and 30" wide. Will this be too large?

A: That would work - take advantage of your nice tall ceiling! Typically, fixtures are hung 30" above the table for 8' and 9' ceiling heights. For every additional foot of ceiling height, add 3". Because the fixture is a little wider than the norm, you can also raise it up so you don't hit your head leaning over the table. There is enough body height with the long rods that it won't look awkward using a minimum of chain.

**Q: Need help choosing a light fixture for my kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're adding a tray ceiling to our kitchen to solve my wish for the 42" cabinets to flush with the 9' ceilings. I need to replace the light fixtures. All of the appliances will be stainless and the wall color will be Sage Splendor with a stone backsplash. My dilemma is finding three fixtures (I am willing to omit one or two) that work well together aesthetically.
Please help

A: I wouldn't necessarily blank it up unless you will be adding recessed cans. You are always better off having more light than not enough and you easily have enough space for a semi flush. Here are three options - the first has an adjustable rod and seeded glass; the second is clear glass with a mason jar look; the third is a more industrial wire mesh frame. All three take 100 watt max bulbs.

**Q: Lighting Advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're finally getting to the doing stage in our kitchen, but one piece has jumped to the front of the line: the lighting.
We currently have late 90's big flourescent pillow in the middle of the ceiling. We could go recessed lights, or a nicer, more modern fixture, that hugs the ceiling.
I'm of a mind to do the nicer, more modern. Husband is worried about making a mistake. I told him I'd ask you smart, chic people for advice.
So: recessed lighting, or that beautiful fixture, above. For reference sake, it's about 4" deep, about 11" wide and about 40" long. The appliances will all be SS, and the pulls, etc are brushed nickle, simple rod shaped.

A: That would be adequate for general kitchen lighting, but you will need additional lighting over your stove area and work areas. LED's generally come in three color categories, warm (2700K), neutral (3000-3300K) and cool (5000K). 2700K is the closest to an incandescent bulb, producing the warm glow we are all accustomed to, but we are seeing people going toward neutral. If you have two different color temperatures it may effect your paint colors.

**Q: Can you provide the manufacturer and name of this fixture? thank you** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: HI lernst! It is a Hubbardton Forge fixture model \#137531. It is 48" in diameter and is adjustable in height from 53.9" - 63.9" with 9 lights @ 75w maximum per socket. Purchased through Crest Lighting in Chicago. Feel free to call our showroom for any additional details: 888-CREST-4U.
