My heart was set on Carrera marble for our kitchen island. However, when I saw their stunning selection of richly veined Calacatta marble, I was awestruck. Kathy Cattano and her son Joshua Cattano, the owner of Ecstatic Stone, took their time with me and my husband and explained the pros and cons of each type of stone for our purposes. I was intrigued by their selection of beautiful soapstone and once Kathy and Joshua told us about the durability and stain resistance of soapstone, I was sold. We decided on soapstone for the kitchen perimeter and the striking contrast it provides next to the dramatic Calacatta marble kitchen island. While walking around Ecstatic Stone’s huge warehouse, a slab of Super White Quartzite caught my husband’s eye. He was drawn to it, and fortunately our designer had shower tile and bathroom floor samples with him. He set the samples next to the Super White Quartzite and our bathroom design was born! A: I do not know what the color is but we will try to find out for you. Sorry for such a late response, but this is the first time I've seen your question. **Q: is fantasy brown a granite, quartzite,or marble? getting mixed answers** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Cathy, I'd bet that Apuan is correct in regards to your stone likely being a marble. We are a wholesaler as well and I'm fairly sure we import this same stone and, in fact, have it in our warehouse now. With that said, I would guess that this stone originates from India, and it is much like some other marbles that we have imported from India that are fairly dense, or "hardy," as Heidi Adams describes it. If a good sealer is applied (by fabricator) and decently maintained (by you) staining shouldn't be a great concern, especially considering that this is not a white marble, but has color and natural color variation, which would likely make it more of a chore to find any stains versus actively concealing them and stressing over them (still, the vast majority of people tend to learn to live with and even appreciate these "flaws" after about a year of living with their stones). Etching wouldn't be a huge issue either because the stone probably doesn't have a high polish/gloss to begin with, so again, these blemishes are not going to jump out at you like you might imagine. Also, how often do you see marble in real life applications and think that it looks ugly or that it's not for you? Moreover, if you ever see marble in real life—not in the slab form at the slab yard, I mean—you are seeing marble that has been used... and you probably still like it and want it.
