> Really awful customer service from the owner. Did two jobs for us, left nails everywhere, mislead us about their certifications, and completely botched the last job. Trying to communicate and resolve issues was an absolute nightmare.

**★ — a b, March 2023**

> Water damage, incompetence, waste of money. Don’t let Solid State onto your property.
>
> I contracted with Solid State to redo my siding and replace the decking and rails on my cantilevered balcony in the fall of 2019. It was a roughly $50K job. Everything looked good at first, though I have to say that Jeff Brooks was a pain to deal with. For example, when his crew gouged my brand new hardwood floors in two locations, Jeff agreed to have a flooring contractor fix the first gouge, but only paid half as much for the 2nd gouge (which I discovered only after fixing the 1st one).
>
> Solid State’s shoddy work only became apparent to me about a year later, when, in December 2020, I saw water stains on my ceiling, right below the where the joists of my balcony enter the interior of my house. More water damage in January of 2021 - this is when I contacted Solid State and asked them to take a look.
>
> Jeff sent a whole series of people to my house over the course of about 2 years, first to do some work on the exterior of the house, which they thought would fix the water penetration; then to replace my balcony’s sliding door, at a cost to me of over $7,000. Jeff himself told me this would be the best course of action to fix the water penetration. It didn’t work. More work was done on the exterior, replacing some flashing - this didn’t help. Eventually, Jeff sent someone to cut open my interior wall and ceiling, to better understand the leak. This was incredibly disruptive, but whatever, I figured it was worth it to fix the problem. With the wall open, I took several videos of water penetrating the exterior of the house at the balcony joists, which I shared with Jeff. His crew eventually pulled up my balcony decking and redid some more flashing, thinking the problem was fixed. To be fair to them, they used a hose to test for water penetration, and none was evident from inside the house when I was looking through the open wall. So everyone thought it was fixed.
>
> The crew came back to close up my wall and ceiling. These guys can’t do drywall to save their lives, it looked absolutely awful. I was redoing their crappy patch job when I noticed that in the heavy wind and rain of December 2022, I was still getting water penetration!
>
> Jeff sent his guy over to my house again, who said he’d probably open up my window trim and take a look. He went silent for a while, but I was contacted by that person again in late Feb 2023, asking if I still had water leaking into the house.
>
> I gave up working with these guys. They’re utterly incompetent and Jeff is terrible to work with. Contracted instead with a guy that does a lot of work in my town, at a cost of $10,000. Jeff Brooks and Solid State are a nightmare, please stay away.

> \*\*High quality work, professional and timely!\*\*
> Siding and trim, soffit, and gutter installation, some frame repair work done. This was a major investment - we sided with James Hardy fiber cement, removing old siding from our 1920 home in New England. But it was worth EVERY penny. The service from Solid State was fantastic from start to end. They were clear and honest about what they'd deliver, cost, and timing. The crew was EXCELLENT - reliable and hardworking. I'm delighted with not only the finished project but also the process. I will use Solid State again.

**Comment from Solid State Construction:**

> Thank you for your detailed feedback, Kai - we enjoyed working with you!

**★★★★★ — Julie Heslin, March 2020**

> Lately, our roof had been showing stain and moss all over the surface. In addition, after windy rainstorms, we were finding water stains on our interior walls and ceilings as well as various shingle pieces throughout our yard. So, along with my husband, David, I began to do research on companies that replace roofs on residential houses. As part of this process, we talked to our friend Tina Delatina Rosa who is the Quality Assurance, Marketing and Events Coordinator for Solid State Construction. This led to Tina and Rob Blanchflower, a Project Consultant for Solid State, visiting our home on January 17 to assess our needs. With absolutely no pressure but lots and lots of professionalism and competence, Tina and Rob studied our roofing structure both inside and outside, including a tough to get into and out (for former NFL tight end Rob) assessment of our attic space. In a relaxed presentation around the dining room table, Rob told us who Solid State Construction and their product supplier, GAF, are. Everything was clearly explained; from old roof removal to installation of new underlayment and ventilation systems and finally of the GAF shingle product. GAF guarantees this product for 50 years if it is installed complying with GAF’s strict standards and, of course, Solid State Construction is a certified GAF installer. The price was actually higher than some of the other options we looked at, but the comprehensiveness of Rob’s presentation and the absolute pride he exuded while describing the merits of Solid State and GAF convinced David and me that this is the way to go.
>
> On Saturday, March 21, Tina along with Solid State Construction Assistant Project Manager, Nick Keegan, showed up early in the morning with eight workers. Watching these men during the day I realized just how well trained and experienced a crew Nick was overseeing. Of immediate note to me was that right from the beginning at least one worker was assigned to clean up. No having a giant heap of a mess to clean up at the end of the day when everyone is tired and wants to go home. Along the way and after removing the old roof, previously unseen problems appeared. This required replacement of rotted structural boards and cross members which Nick had his men do without looking to nickel and dime us in the process. A good-sized portion of our roof covers a family room that we added to the house years ago. It was covered with regular shingles, but Nick advised me that a far superior covering because of the pitch of the roof would be rubber. So, right there while actually carrying out the work activity, a significant change in scope was made with no increase in cost or time to complete the project. At the end of the day, with only a few minor items that were taken care of the next morning, the project was done and everything was cleaned up. The quality of the final product fully reflects the expertise and professional workmanship of Nick Keegan and his extremely hard-working project team. Two of our neighbors spent years in the construction trades and they came over to tell David this is complete quality and professional job. One, usually skeptical, said, “Dave, when they told you to put rubber rather than regular shingles over the family room, that’s when I knew these guys knew what they were doing.” We couldn’t say it better. We are totally pleased and satisfied with our roof replacement provided by Solid State Construction and its product supplier GAF. We very strongly recommend them. Oh, of course, we had some questions after everybody left. No problem, David just called Nick Keegan who responded right away.

**Comment from Solid State Construction:**

> We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review, Julie - thank you!

> Solid State were easily to best choice we could have made to renovate our home. These guys are pros, and will make what are typically large and stressful projects as stress-free as possible.
>
> They stripped 20-year-old (and flimsy) vinyl siding from our exterior and replaced with HardieBoard. Replaced all windows with new selections from Marvin, and replaced our front and side doors, as well.
>
> Installs went smoothly, look beautiful, and the best part is, Chris (project manager) and Jeff (owner) REALLY care to make sure your house looks its best and is EXACTLY what you're looking for.
>
> We recommend them completely.

**★★★★★ — User, July 2019**

> Solid State Construction was great to work with throughout our project. They stripped our nearly 60 year old shingles and installed fiber cement siding. They installed new trim, new soffits, and a new door. From our first meeting with Andy to the final sign off with Chris, working with Solid State was a good experience.
>
> We are truly happy with the results!

**★★★★ — Bob Mitnick, Oct. 2018**

> After living in our house for over 20 years, the original vinyl siding was really looking it's age. Our neighbor is a contactor ( Creative Custom Carpentry ) and a very good one, had Solid State Construction reside his house with Hardie siding. His house looks great. Now our house does too! We met with Jeff, the owner, who came up with multiple options that would fit our needs. We ended up choosing the Hardee siding and we are glad we did. Not only does it look good, you can tell that it is much more durable than vinyl. Jeff is very professional and you can tell he cares for his company by standing behind his work and making sure his clients are completely satisfied.

**★★★★★ — Greg Letendre, Sept. 2018**

> We had a great experience with Solid State Construction and would highly recommend them. The person who did the estimate was far superior to the guy our carpenter recommended. He did a complete walk through of the attic, deck, and the perimeter. He thoroughly explained how we could solve our lack of any venting, and gave a detailed quote that day. He also returned at a later date to answer other questions we had. Solid State ended up installing a ridge vent, edge vent, and Propa vents, and took off our old roof and installed the new one in one day.

**Comment from Solid State Construction:**

> Thank you so much for your review! We're glad that the weather cooperated, and are very happy with how everything turned out with your roof.

**★★★★★ — Matt Muscatiello, July 2018**

> Solid State Construction (SSC) is a trustworthy, honest, responsive and professional organization who completed multiple projects for us with a very high degree of craftsmanship. We had numerous projects with them this year, including: roof, skylights, siding, gutters, windows, and front door. The size of our scope made us very concerned about finding a contractor that was a) able to handle the entire scope, b) was able to fully commit resources to it, and c) was able to manage the project from beginning to end. The team at Solid State delivered on all three fronts. I want to specifically call out the fantastic relationship we established with Chris, our project manager. Chris always made himself available, was incredibly reliable, and very knowledgeable through his tenured experience in the industry. He helped coordinate across all crews and suppliers and made it a much less stressful process for us. As with any large project, there were things along the way that we wanted to be done differently; and although I wish they had done some of these things without me needing to ask, they were determined to correct all items and make things right. At the end of the day, that meant the most to me. The crews at Solid State are James Hardie specialists. Hardieboard needs to be installed in a very specific manner, and these guys know exactly what they are doing. We went with the Cedar Mill in Pearl Gray and absolutely love it. We complimented the siding with the Arctic White HardieTrim on our corner boards and around all 29!!!! Marvin Integrity windows that they installed. They also suggested to put ram's crown moulding on the top of our front windows and front door, which we love. It was a subtle, yet elegant feature that really sharpened up the curb appeal. The front door was made by Provia in a Mahogany finish. We are extremely happy with the end product and were very satisfied with the work done by Solid State Construction. I have trust in SSC that they will provide high quality work and provide a great customer experience. I believe this is set from the top, and it was clear to me that Jeff Brooks ensures that it is carried throughout his company.

**★★★★★ — Kim Cahill, Feb. 2018**

> I couldn't be happier with Solid State's work. They did an absolutely beautiful job on our James Hardie siding, new doors, and custom-built front door surround. During the coldest weeks of winter the guys still showed up promptly every morning and left our home in neat condition at the end of each work day. The work crew, the Project Manager, Chris, and the Owner, Jeff listened to our questions and concerns before, throughout, and after the project had finished and made sure we were satisfied with how everything had turned out. They were courteous and professional, and showed the kind of attention to detail and quality of workmanship that every owner hopes for when they hire a contractor. When one of our new door locks fit a little too tight and a window needed some more caulking one of the guys came back within a week to make the adjustments. That's first-class service! We would definitely use Solid State again! Wish they did kitchens...

**★★★★ — melissa prudhomme, June 2017**

> We recently used Solid State Construction to side a new addition on the back of our house. We initially met with Greg who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our follow up appointment was with Jeff who worked with us and stayed within our budget. The work crew took 5 days to complete the addition and back of our house. Chris was the manager who oversaw the project and he checked on the progress several times during the week. He was very accommodating and had the crew return to clean up the yard and wipe down the new siding. The workmanship was very good, however, I had to have them return again and clean up the siding. My husband and I are very picky when it comes to our home and we were, overall, happy with the siding and appearance of our home. We hope to complete the rest of the house within the next year and intend to hire Solid State.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Roof and siding?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the color combo. Is this James Hardie evening blue? Mfg and color of the roof? Thanks!

A: Hi! This actually is James Hardie Boothbay Blue (though it does look darker due to the shade), and the roof was done years prior, using CertainTeed's Weathered Wood color.

**Q: Color Hardie?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this Mountain Sage or something totally different. It's so difficult to tell. Thanks.

A: Hi there - yes, the color is James Hardie Mountain Sage. The house is quite shaded in this picture so it looks a little bit darker.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
\- Solid State Construction

**Q: HOA Dilemma - What Color Hardie Board Should We Pick?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're a six townhouse complex on the intracoastal in Florida, close to beach, replacing our existing vinyl with Hardie Board siding, but can't agree on a color. We need to pick from the Hardie pre-painted ColorPlus colors. The existing vinyl is a green/grey color. Please help us resolve this issue - some like Aqua Marine but afraid it may be too "trendy", others Boothbay Blue, but too dark for FL? Light Mist too light?

A: Boothbay Blue is incredibly popular. Also, near the coast in New England, Light Mist tends to be a favorite as well!

**Q: what color hardy plank should be used with this stone color?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Bora brick is Scarlet oak with tan mortar. Any Sherwin Williams color can be used.

A: I could see Hardie's Sail Cloth with that brick color..

**Q: Exterior advice. Brick or hardi?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

White hardi with black shutters, or brick? If brick, would you do away with porch handrails? Not sure if I would like the look of brick with white handrails, and iron wouldn't match my interior. If hardi, would def do white porch handrails. Suggestions?? Also, best suited brick choices?

A: I would agree and go with James Hardie in Arctic White or Sail Cloth, which would look great with your metal roof design.
