> After relocating from the East Coast and buying a house that we planned on renovating, we designed the project ourselves without an architect.  McCartt was recommended to us by our new friends and was one of several estimates that we received.  All the estimates were tight to each other.  Because he came so highly recommended we made the leap and are very happy that we did.  His workers and subcontractors were neat, courteous, and consistent.   A few unforeseen changes arose and Ian was reasonable and fair with them.  Our house turned out just as we had envisioned and I wouldn't hesitate to use McCartt again.

> I live in the LAMORINDA area and have used Mccartt Construction for several substantial projects at my home. Ian Mccartt built an entire outdoor deck, outdoor living area, and outdoor kitchen for us. He also remodeled our entire master bath, including new electrical, plumbing, framing, and fixtures.

> I hired Ian to renovate my kids bedroom, a bathroom, and a family room.  It was my first renovation, and I was hoping all the rumors I heard about how horrible home renovations can be were a myth. Unfortunately, the myths and rumors were all true.  Ian was not easy to work with, we were constantly butting heads on just about every decision. The work done was not of quality work, windows had specs of paint all over them, as well as our new hard wood floors,  the trim was not done with any precision, the electrical was not grounded ("completely unsafe"), the bathroom lights were not centered with the bathroom sink, the subcontractor who installed the bathroom tile used a chip piece of tile, the bath tub was caulked incorrectly.... The end product was just sloppy work. He was not budget conscious, quick, or clean.  There was no attention to detail, he was not professional and did not keep his word on some of the things we had agreed upon. He was not knowledgeable or resourceful, and we had to hire a new builder to fix the work that was done. I would not recommend this builder.
