Instead of these tall plants from the neighbors, imagine a fence or a wall. The bright contrast with (in this case) white rocks and plants. Next to artificial turf, with black planters, would look great also, if you add concrete stepping stones. **Q: Need help designing our new space (renovated silk mill)!** *(in Home Decorating)* Hi Houzzers, I’m reaching out because we have a month to move into our new office space and we get to redesign it from scratch. The building is an old renovated silk mill with beautiful hardwood floors, plenty of space (777 sq ft) and tall 15ft ceilings. I’ve attached some photos as well as a basic floor plan that I quickly sketched up in a free program. We’re a plant light company so incorporating plants is a must. I’ve attached an apartment featured Apartment Therapy that I think would be great to replicate. (Fun fact: she actually has one of our lights in her bedroom!) Our budget is under $5000 (ideally $3500) and would have to seat 4 of us with room for 2 part-time interns, an assembly area, testing area, kitchen area, and space for inventory; but those are things we could probably figure out since they’ll be more industrial in nature. Figuring out a clean modern style with some beautiful office furniture and decorations would be a beautiful way to start off in our new digs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Black defines dressing area from open space loooooong master **Q: Kitchen Cabinet Colors – What Do You Think?** *(in Remodeling)* Hello houzz community. First off, thank you so much for viewing my post. Please feel free to chime in. I'm extremely excited – we're finally (semi) renovating our kitchen. It's currently not terrible, but has never been, well, "us". Okay, so I've put the deposit down on some new, almost white, Calcatta Quartz countertops, with large, grey veining. They're absolutely gorgeous! I also have plans to swap out our beige, Spanish backsplash with traditional, white subway tile. I'll finish that off with a light grey grout. Let's be honest, the new countertops blew out my kitchen budget. And our existing cabinets, although dated, are solid as heck; real wood, and should take paint like a champ. That said, fairly set on keeping them. The only question is what color? I've always been a huge fan of black kitchen cabinets. However, I have a few concerns: Will the black cabinets make my kitchen feel tiny? Will they constantly show dust & grime? And although our little kitchen has a large skylight, and a small window over the sink, I live in the Pacific Northwest, where the grey winters can drag on for months. I'm a tad worried that all that black is going to depress the f\*\*\* out of me come February. I have however managed to crudely photoshop a few renders of what our future kitchen might be. Can't you just hear the soft jazz and smell the beignets my wife would be cooking in this upscale kitchen? White on top. Black on bottom… admired by penguins everywhere. Grey could soften things up a bit. Brass pulls would work nicely here as well. All white. I'd more than likely do a darker backsplash to break up the cabinets here. Thanks for following along. Cheers! A: I would say dark grey bottom and white top with black hardware. Black paint leaves spots from finger prints and is a pain to keep it from being stained. I did the opposite I kept high gloss white bottom and custom made dark grey top doors. It is the first room visible upon entrance to the house. We will need seating for atleat 5 people. So I'm thinking a sofa and either 2 or 3 chairs, The dimensions are 19.5' X 18'. There is one blank wall where I'm planning to put a 3 seat sofa. But how should the chairs be placed? Across the sofa or next to the sofa in front of the door? How big should the coffee table be? Thank you. **Q: Wood Dining Table** *(in Home Decorating)* My husband and I are looking to purchase our very first 'real' dining room table and need some advice. We found a table that we like quite a bit in a store here in Vancouver that is known for high end, high quality products but also has a bit of a reputation for mixing in some lower end inventory. The table has a solid Surina wood top that is about 2.5" thick and has a live edge. The base is a polished chrome pedestal. The table was made in Indonesia. I noticed that if you ran a fingernail on the wood, it would leave a mark. There was also a sticker on the bottom of the table that mentioned to be careful of humidity (we live in the Pacific North West). I'm wondering if we can expect a high level of craftsmanship from Indonesian made furniture? Does anyone know much about Surina wood and the durability? Are scratches on all solid wood tables to be expected? Is the humidity sticker just a standard warning? Or should I be concerned that that this kind of wood is particularly sensitive? Thank you! A: Look at details and hope you can see a craftsmanship. I could not believe my eyes when I found it where I did, if interested, I will reveal. It's a solid wood, great table seats 8, although here it's only 6 chairs, they are quite large, but it seats comfortably 8 people with smaller normal size chairs.
