Below is a list of things he didn’t seem to get right. Hopefully reading this he can fix his clumsy errors in the future. Or don’t hire him for your project. > He built a back deck on our house and we agreed to go with hidden faster system, thinking that he would use the one which goes with the decking material we specified. (Timbertech). He instead installed screws at an angle on the side of each board. This left jagged holes where the screws entered and the worst part is they are all visible.. we agreed on the contract that it would be a hidden system however it wasn’t. > He also wrote in the contract he would use plugs for the top screw holes which coming to find after the fact he did not do. > This project was completed and I am constantly finding issues with the workmanship. I have loose boards where the screws were installed but stripped or not in joists underneath. I also find that all of the decking isn’t flush with each other in many places where the ends of boards meet a perpendicular board. > I’m not sure why it was completed so poorly. It’s aggravating to say the least. In one area on the finished surface he used a Phillips construction screw to secure the timbertech to the deck. This screw was not made for that application and caused an unsightly color and hole where it was located. > On that same topic his screw placement for top locking deck boards to the framing was very random on each board also adding to the unsightly nature of the deck. > > Of course there are more issues that I had which I brought up to his attention. He was nice and tried to fix them to a degree. He was very detailed oriented and did an outstanding job! You know you have a good contractor when the inspector looks at it and says great job! We had a little difficulty with engineering but it had to do with the county we lived in. Our builder kept us in the loop on all the details, step by step.
