After graduating she was offered a position abroad and resided in London for 4 years. Returning to the United States on the brink of the millennium, she took a risk and moved to Miami, FL to pursue a career in design. One of Miami’s top design firms offered her full time employment after only a 6 month internship. She began working closely with a team of multi-skilled designers on extremely high end projects through-out Latin America, Europe and the United States to learn the trade. Due to the design firms’ popularity and the real estate boom of the early 2000’s, she was able to design and project manage dozens of full scale residential and hospitality design jobs. Her employer also operated an exclusive retail showroom of which she became one of three retail buyers at trade shows in New York City, Dallas, Paris, and Milan. While in Miami, a love of vintage furniture erupted and she soon began buying her own pieces at estate sales and refurbishing them. She was showcased in Inside Out Magazine in 2005 for her ability to mix styles and periods of furniture. After selling many pieces to clients and vintage dealers and with persuasion from friends and colleagues, she began taking her own design projects and decided to move to Los Angeles in late 2005. Although Jennifer was offered positions with some of LA’s premiere interior designers, she opted to tough out the challenges of starting her own business. In fact 2 of the 3 jobs we’ve finished together have been published. Her expert knowledge, accessibility, quick decision making, beautiful design esthetics and complete skill set are spectacular. Our team of professionals (electrician, custom cabinetry, painting and foreman) have a great respect for her and look forward to working with her especially since she also respects their abilities and skill sets. After taking my $6000, she just wanted to get rid of me. She came to my home once, then sent some shoddy drawings with tear sheets of furniture. There were no prices, no budget, no contact information. When I asked a few questions, she was as rude as she could be and acted as though I was bothering her. She treated me with total disrespect and worse, she took zero pride in her work. If I'd taken her advice, I'd have a huge sofa blocking the entrance to the living room and a washed out rug for $15K. I should have sued to recover my money, but I didn't have the time. She totally breached the contract on several points. She ruined my experience and trust in designers. She should be ashamed of her work ethic and of the way she handled my project. Do not hire this woman unless you have endless money and someone else to review her work. Terrible experience. **Comment from Jeneration Interiors:** > Jodi, > > I'm so surprised to read this comment especially because our working relationship ended over half a year ago and you never indicated to me that you were not satisfied. When we met you'd been living in your home for more than a year with many empty rooms. I contacted you numerous times during your project to ask questions and give you options. I came over 3 times to talk with you and had my vendors bring rugs to be viewed in your home. When we corresponded through email it sometimes took you over a month to respond! My email folder shows we communicated over 129 times. You were never able to make a firm decision even after 20+ choices I'd given you for sofas, consoles, chairs, etc. One of the last emails from you is an apology to me saying you were obsessive about your selections almost to the point of being OCD. In response to your rug comment, you were given 5 options. I never expected you to like them all. If I may remind you, you purchased the living room rug that I suggested and loved the final option of white hair on hide in the office. The faded rug I initially suggested for the office was not to your liking and that's your prerogative. However, in my opinion, this dislike was solved with the white hair on hide rug I showed you in which you then contacted me about wanting to purchase and I, therefore, gave you the vendor. > You were given beautiful choices with fabric selections that, to me, you raved about. Your $6000 covered 30 hours of specification services as you told me that you did not want to purchase through me because your husband did not wish to pay the designer markup since his mother was a commercial interior designer. You ran through the 30 hours very quickly as you could never actually decide on any furniture. You were unwilling to take my design advice and suggestions. You wanted more and more choices and when we were approaching over 40 hours of work ( 10 of which I did not charge you for) I felt it best that I give you a complete packet of the choices you told me you wanted. I had to prompt you to even make that decision. When I did give you your choices, I gave you a color image (tear sheet) of each item with the size, name, and location in which it could be purchased and the independent rep if necessary. I gave you actual fabric swatches depicting the manufacturer and fabric name/ number and the showroom names in which they could be purchased. I gave you scale, floor plan drawings of 2-3 different furniture layouts because I was so confused about where you were comfortable placing the items. You could never decide so I provided options. All of the above was neatly organized in a hard back ring binder with protective sheet covers. Per contract, this is exactly what I said I would do. I was unable to give you pricing as you were not purchasing though me and I do not know your mother in laws design discount. My pricing would have been invalid and of no use. Working with you I felt very frustrated and unfulfilled. You were indecisive, doubtful, entitled and ungrateful. If you would have let go of the control you wished to hold, you could have had a beautiful and complete project in 15 hours. I've designed whole homes in a 30 hour period but in the end, you assumed you were a better designer than me and I cannot argue with someone that has come to that conclusion. I'm not responsible that you could not make a decision and your house was left unfinished. You used all of the hours you purchased and you were given a detailed time billing report by me showing how they were used. I conclude from this unfounded review that, over 9 months later, your home is still empty and sparse and you are still unhappy and unable to decide on furniture. I do hope that you can eventually have a beautiful home that you won't second guess and debate. Holding onto the anger and resentment you have is damaging to a person and I would have happily continued working with you if you had communicated to me that your 'final choices' weren't actually final and if you'd been a reasonable client that was able to make decisions in a timely manner. Taking on the entire downstairs at once is no easy task, all while living in the house. From the day I spotted Jen's work on Houzz, I knew she fit the design esthetic I was looking for. She has amazing taste, she is very collaborative, and most important to me was she was not afraid to tell me when I was heading in the wrong direction with an idea of my own. However, Jennifer Dyer, was an expert at effectively communicating her ideas via technology. Her plan for a Hollywood Regency style area reminiscent of a 1940's stylish living room captivated me as a client and ultimately, the entire town. Using a timeless black & white motif with custom dyed velvet sofas in a beautiful green created a space everyone wanted to visit. Creative use of unexpected materials such as antler tables and vintage table lamps added interest as well. Additionally, all materials arrived in a timely manner so as renovation of the space was completed, installation of the project could begin. In fact, Jenifer was ahead of deadlines throughout the entire process.
