**★★★★★ — Flat Platypus, Jan. 2025**

> This is my second big project with Custom Dwellings for a covered outside kitchen and seating area. It's everything I wanted: a great space usable for most of the year. Russell, Stephanie, and Mike were great as always, fitting all my wants into a workable design, managing the site daily, and keeping the project moving despite holidays and very cold weather. Highly recommend!

**★★★★★ — Elizabeth Kunez, Oct. 2024**

> We used Custom Dwellings for an addition of a first floor primary bedroom and basement workshop space. The design phase was wonderful with input from us and from Custom Dwellings to improve the room design and finishing touches. Then the completion of the construction was as expected in a timely manner and in the budget we expected. We would highly recommend them to those seeking a turnkey design/build experience. They make it easy.

> This is our 2nd run with Custom Dwellings and again, we love the end product! Their attention to detail (ours and theirs) is probably what impresses the most. Stephanie's design was exactly what we wanted and Russell and Mike (project manager) made sure we got to the end of the project and were satisfied. We came across some issues during the project that pushed up the price somewhat but those issues needed taking care of and Custom Dwellings knew who to go to and oversaw the work to the end.
>
> Amy helped with some of the design aspects and we liked what she added as well.
>
> Work undertaken inside the house is never easy but someone was always there to oversee and we never felt we had to be in attendance. In fact, we left on vacation for 3 weeks while they worked - that was the level of trust.
>
> Highly recommended. You get what you pay for!

> Our whole-house remodel experience with Custom Dwellings was truly an amazing experience. From the first meeting with Stephanie and designers to the last finishing touches, we were more than satisfied with the team's communication, professionalism, high quality craftsmanship and knowledge... I could gush all day! The team listens but also provides very clear, thoughtful, and appropriate recommendations when we weren't sure which direction to take. The project took 10 months but we knew that going in - the timeline went as smoothly as it could have possibly gone, and there were VERY few instances where we hit snags (i.e., items no longer available, longer lead times, etc.) - but the team worked their magic and our new home is gorgeous. We hope to work with Custom Dwellings again for "Phase 2!"

> We were very pleased with the work done by Custom Dwellings on our kitchen remodel, flooring in foyer, painting of our family room, foyer, and upstairs hallway. We also decided to replace our family room carpeting.
>
> Russell and Stephanie Ives (owners and decorators), were very professional and tracked the progress of the project. Their project manager, Mike, was very hands on. Their selection of subcontractors was very good and all had excellent knowledge in their fields. We were on track on the budget. There were some slight delays, not due to work schedules, but due to issues relating to product quality out of their control, i.e. flooring would just not lay right.
>
> All things considered, we would use them again for future remodeling projects.

**★★★★★ — Stacy Levine, Oct. 2017**

> Great team. Easy to work with. Wonderful ideas and stayed within our budget. Very happy with our screened in porch and new deck.

**★★★★★ — Larry Haynes, Oct. 2017**

> Custom Dwellings did a wonderful job on our recent kitchen remodel. Every part of our old kitchen was removed. They designed and installed a beautiful new kitchen. All work was done on schedule and they did an excellent job. We love everything about our new kitchen and are so very proud of it. We highly recommend Custom Dwellings!!!

**★★★★★ — Flat Platypus, Sept. 2016**

> Stephanie and Russell renovated my kitchen, and I am so pleased with the results. Stephanie worked the designs until it gave me exactly what I wanted -- more light, a massive island, with good flow for normal traffic and the ability to interact with guests at parties while cooking. Russell's work is impeccable. I've never heard of a renovation site being kept so clean. No problems at all with the load-bearing wall removal or new skylights. And even when I made changes last second, they rolled with it without hesitation. A pleasure to work with them. I use them for all my projects.

**Comment from Custom Dwellings:**

> Thanks for the review! It's fun seeing your kitchen in action.

**★★★★★ — tkinche106, Jan. 2015**

> Stephanie listened to my wife and me in our first interview. She heard what we wanted out of our deck renovation and then drew plans that reflected what we wanted. Later she tweaked the plans when we she suggested changes that improved the total design. We also used Custom Dwellings as our GC and were totally satisfied. We have had had nothing but compliments on our renovation.

**★★★★★ — katefeen, Nov. 2014**

> We did a design/build with Custom Dwellings. We could not be more satisfied with the design and the quality of the construction. This was our third major project with Stephanie's design work and we would definitely use her again.

**★★★★★ — susan1234567, June 2013**

> Stephanie Ives came recommended by our contractor. She designed an updated 4 piece bathroom and closet from a 70's styled tiny bathroom/ dressing area. We have incredible amount of storage.
>
> The best part is that she went with me to pick out the materials for cabinets , tile and marble. Also helped me choose tub, sinks, commode and faucets.
> The whole effect is a very beautiful, custom look.
>
> I was very pleased and would use her again.

**★★★★★ — stacyknight, Jan. 2013**

> Stephanie provided design services for a large addition to my home, including a kitchen expansion, a master closet and exercise room addition, and a covered porch. She is extremely attentive to detail and has a great eye for tying in existing and new details. She has a very pleasant demeanor, and I would highly recommend Stephanie for design services for future renovation and addition projects.

 - Description: Their cramped, existing bath, of only 44 square feet, desperately needed attention and wanting a larger walk-in shower, a dual-vanity sink and storage was going to be a tight squeeze to make, even with the newly obtained space. Luckily, during the demo phase of construction, the space thought to be an HVAC chase, ended up being empty, giving us not only extra square footage, but the possibility for a more functional layout. And while space was gained, it was necessary to ensure that the clients…

 - Description: A love of the clean lines and materials common in Scandinavian aesthetics is reminiscent of the owner’s childhood upbringing in a rural farmhouse and was a guiding theme in sculpting the new kitchen design. The desire for a bright and open kitchen that can function as a central hub for the home was at the center of this renovation.

 - Description: Understated yet bold, the full wall of large format porcelain tile as focal point in the master shower is equally unexpected and harmonious as it contrasts with the utilitarian aesthetic of the adjacent concrete field tile. The master bath in this rambling ranch had an expansive amount of underutilized square footage and lacked useful storage. Expanding the vanity to incorporate thoughtful storage solutions, opening the shower to the space, and breaking the tub free of the bay window all work to…

When preparing food together with friends is an integral part of your lifestyle your kitchen needs multiple work zones and ample seating for the dinner show. - Description: Light, bright, and airy with optimized and thoughtful storage were the requests for this family’s new kitchen. With a shady backyard, the interior finishes had to be carefully considered in order to brighten the space. Introducing calming gray tones, bright white subway tile, and soft white painted cabinetry added to the total transformation. The new linear central…

 - Description: A showerpan leak led to the partial update for this home in Vinings Estates- the jetted jacuzzi tub was replaced with a soaking tub, the tiled shower & tub deck were completely redone, vanity cabinetry painted, new sinks, faucets, and counters installed. Maintaining the existing tile floor and coordinating the new tile for the tub deck and shower surround was a requirement.

 - Description: Traditional porch and deck renovation on the golf course. The existing deck though large, did not provide a variety of outdoor entertaining options. The renovated deck includes a new pergola directly off of the kitchen, an expansion of the existing screened porch to a new covered porch at the rear, and a overhaul of the existing screened porch. A small portion of open deck was retained. The addition of the pergola shade structure creates a perfect outdoor room for casual dining.

 - Description: This golf course home is situated on a private lake. Prior to renovation, the view of the lake was blocked the view from the home's interior. A new screened porch and staggered open deck provide ample space for entertaining lake-side. The screened porch allows for almost year round living and a lower level covered patio expands this home's outdoor living space. A new front porch and window replacement freshen the look of this home while adding much needed curb appeal.

## Community Q&A

**Q: vendor for lounge chair?** *(in Photo Questions)*

can you tell me who makes the patio armchair?

A: From my client "Its a company called Patio Sense and believe it or not we found them on Amazon! They are really sturdy and I haven't seen any weathering impact but yes we do bring the cushions inside when we're not planning to use them of course"

**Q: Cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)*

Color, wood, door style and stain of cabinets please. Beautiful

A: Kemper Choice Cabinetry, Kingston door style, Alder wood, Whiskey Black stain w/glaze.

**Q: What color/glaze was used for the hood/range area? The blue?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Wow! I never would have guessed that is Gull Wing Gray! My personal kitchen is painted the exact same same paint and doesn't look nearly this blue. There are definitely blue undertones to it but it is definitely gray, nothing like this photo. The glaze and the photography lighting definitely are playing tricks on the color here.

**Q: What is the trim color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Benjamin Moore Decorator White

**Q: Tall vanity? Is it worth it?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Does anyone have a taller than normal vanity in their bathroom? Are you glad you did it? Good for resale? My condo bathroom is very tiny and I think it will give extra storage and just be more comfortable.

A: Definitely more comfortable for most adults, not so accessible for children. Most new homes are built today with the master vanity at 36" but secondary (kid) baths remain at the 32" height unless the children are older.

**Q: Buying solid surface or Granite Countertops** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Searched a few articles, but did not find the information I am seeking. Exactly how does this process work? I have been told "you must buy a whole slab" for both granite and quartz. If this is true, how do the remnants occur? Does the fabricator keep what is left over? Also, my cabinet maker prefers a certain fabricator who favors a certain supplier. Am I bound to use these two sources? If not how should I handle the situation? We are starting our remodel with a master bath and really wanted Cambria quartz, but the countertop will only use 20 sq ft. What would become of the rest of the slab? Found some granite, both a small slab as well as a remnant at two different suppliers, but is this rude to my cabinet person? As you see, I need a countertop 101 course as to the buying process in detail. Thanks in advance for any explanations.

A: While you typically do pay for the entire slab to be aquired by the fabricator you are charged only for fabrication of the amount you are using. Often working in baths I advise clients to use as much of the slab as is feasible- bench seat, curb, and shampoo niches in the shower are all nice accent areas. If you are shopping for a particular color/mfr of quartz it may be worth checking multiple fabricators to see if they happen to have any remnants in their "boneyard".
