## Community Q&A

**Q: Has anyone tried RockWood Hardwood  for engineered flooring?** *(in Flooring)*

I got a sample today of RockWood Hardwood and I'm wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences with it. It's 7 1/2" wide, 5/8" thick and has a 4mm European oak wear layer and is wirebrushed. I like the Kerstone and Claystone oak samples. They sell it for $5.50sf at Wholesale Woodfloor Warehouse.  The color looks like it goes all the way through (it's smoked I think), which would be helpful for scratches but there's not much on the internet about it and I'd hate to put it all through my house and then have to redo my floors in a couple of years! Thanks for any info.

A: Not sure if I'm too late to be helpful, but I have installed 3 or 4 Rockwood floors. I'm a flooring contractor in San Diego. The first one was for a client that we have installed hardwood for 3 times in high-end condos, and they love the floor. The first floor we did for them was some fancy $10/sf something or other. Not worth it they said. The second was around $7/sf. The Rockwood is the best of the bunch according to them. I have been happy with the other installs as well. It looks great, and with the little bit of "testing" we do during and install (sliding around on kneepads, occasionally dropping something) it seems to have a good finish on it.
