Senior Remodeling Experts was founded in 2001 by Chris Moore to provide quality building, remodeling, and consulting services to Roanoke Valley and beyond. Chris’s first-ever construction job was in 1986, working for a Czechoslovakian master carpenter trained in the Old Country as a pattern-maker; that experience taught Chris the importance of true craftsmanship and attention to detail, which now forms the foundation of quality that goes into every project we handle at Senior Remodeling Experts.

> Chris put in a walk-in tub and took out a jacuzzi tub for my mother. He was fast, efficient, and neat. My mom didn't want her old tub taken out (but she could no longer get out of it) and Chris did a great job with easing her concerns.

> I contacted three contractors for estimates to remodel my bathroom. Solid Rock Enterprises Inc. owner Chris Moore, came by to do the estimate he was the ONLY contractor that took measurements of the area and gave me a detailed estimate. They work was very professional and neat. They cleaned up each day after they completed their day. They please my wife so you know the work was great.

**★★★★★ — Vicki, Jan. 2018**

> Solid Rock Enterprises is truly "Rock Solid"!! We had Chris renovate a bathroom and supervise the placement of new flooring in a bedroom so my mother could safely stay with us. He arrived on time, was personable, yet professional and the work was completed quickly and above our satisfaction. The best part -- the work area was cleaned up before they left!

**★★★★★ — Ben Strozier, Dec. 2017**

> Very Professional. Good communication. Dependable. Quality of work was superior. Project included a foundation, roof system and front porch for a historic log home. I would hire this company again for future projects.

**★★★★★ — Brian Booth, Dec. 2017**

> Chris and his team remodeled our entire kitchen. Work was completed in a reasonable amount of time and on budget. Quality inspections were completed after each item was completed and even the smallest imperfection was corrected immediately. The team also noticed an issue after tear down that was a safety issue. They brought it to our attention and fixed it. Chris and his foreman were available nearly around the clock when we needed any question or concern answered. We HIGHLY recommend Solid Rock Enterprises and will be using their services again soon.

**★★★★★ — Ralph Horne, Dec. 2017**

> We hired Solid Rock for a replacement of two decks, adding a screened in porch to the larger of the two. The porch was incorporated into the roof line and required modifications of the house gutters.
> SRE's crew was professional, on-time, courteous and talented. The workmanship was first rate and critiqued by others in the neighborhood who are capable of doing their own modifications as exemplary.
> We are overall very pleased.

**★★★★★ — Michael Dixon, Dec. 2017**

> The work by SRE (renovation of a screened porch) was performed in an outstanding, professional manner. Chris Moore's work ethic in terms of dedication to task was also exemplary. The price was extremely reasonable. We will certainly turn to SRE for other household remodeling as necessary.

**★★★★★ — Robert Mayorga, Dec. 2017**

> I use a wheelchair and need to use two ramps in my house. They are almost 11 years old and showing their age, more in the back outdoors. My wife is a social worker and noticed these really neat ramps Chris had installed at a client's home. She told me about how awesome and durable they are and we decided to move forward & change the two ramps we have.
>
> The work performed was fantastic. The two ramps are of extremely good and durable quality which I highly recommend. The ramp in the garage is particularly useful to me since I am no longer forced to jump onto the ramp and make a 90° turn to get inside of my house. It has a very simple and useful design with a ramp first that leads to a flat surface for me to turn 90° without a problem.
>
> Chris is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all kinds of home improvements, with accessibility in particular. I will be hiring him to change our bathroom to make it more accessible.

> Solid Rock Enterprises installed a customized chair lift for my mother. It involved bending around a corner, a tight entrance with doorway at the top, and a low ceiling. When the low ceiling became problematic they worked with the manufacturer to have a new lift system installed. Throughout all of it, Chris Moore and his team were always professional and helpful. Outstanding service!

**★★★★★ — kprice41, March 2014**

> Chris Moore and his company, Solid Rock Enterprises has impressed me with the work that has been performed by them and their professionalism. We found Chris through a Senior Magazine. I have now used Chris and company twice for different things and have been extremely pleased with the work completed. The work was completed timely and accurately. If there were questions they were promptly answered. I would definitely use and recommend Chris and his company in the future.
>
> Work that was completed in both jobs - installed a chair lift, installed a Simply Home monitoring system and repaired a ceiling which incurred multiple leaks.

**★★★★★ — ProSource of Roanoke, March 2014**

> Chris Moore and his company, Solid Rock Enterprises, completely remodeled our main floor bathroon. They gutted the old bathroom and completely remodeled it to our specifications. I found them to be very professional, very prompt, very clean, and easy to work with. He has the best of the best in people he contracts to do the speciality jobs. I highly recommend Chris and his company. We have had many compliments on his work. We were always kept up to date on the costs and timeline for the job.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Help With bathroom for aging in place, have vanity, need advice** *(in Remodeling)*

We're completely gutting our bathroom, with a major goal of aging in place. We have ordered a vanity which is much higher than our current one ( no stooping over) and plan to adapt our shower so we can enter it without stepping over a fairly high ledge. We're putting a built in- bench in the shower and maybe grab bars ( which we don't need yet but may within 5-10 years)
As you can see in the photo, our bathroom is desperately in need of serious help after 20 years. The floors are seriously chipped, the vanity is is falling apart, and the vanity drawers wont even close.
We've finally saved enough to renovate the bathroom. I have provided room dimensions below.
The room is narrow and long: 102 inches long and 73 inches wide, but only 40 inches wide after accounting for a vanity which is 22 inches wide and a toilet which is nearly as wide.
The vanity ( see photo) is 72m inches long and takes up nearly one long wall, but with enough extra space for a toilet and sufficient room between the vanity and the toilet. .
Tne other long wall has a shower opposite the toilet and the door takes up 40 inches of the 102 inch long wall. The bathroom door currently takes up another 32 inches ( when opened)
The link farther below goes to the rest of my ideabook.
The tile I'm considering for the floor and bathroom wall are approximately 12 by 12 inchesL,the shower accent tile is 6 inches square.
We need ideas for lights flanking a 48 inch long mirror ( 36 inches high). .We plan to change out the mirror but like the length. Current lights, next to each end of mirror, are 9 inches high but the style won't go with new bathroom....plus I never liked them.
Need faucet and wall color suggestions too.! as well as window treatment. Please, please, help. After saving for decent overhaul, we really want to get this right

A: You might want to consider an adaptable vanity like the one shown in these two photos. The cabinet front is removable so that it can be used as a standard vanity until the need for wheelchair accessibility arises. At that time, the front can be removed to render the vanity accessible.
I would also recommend a booklet put out by the Center for Universal Design at NCSU. It is entitled Residential Rehabilitation, Remodeling, and Universal Design. It shows a typical bathroom and then lays out a series of increasingly accessible solutions, some of which involve expanding the space. You can download it here

**Q: Info needed about seat** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me who makes that seat?

A: It is mad by Invisia Here is the link http://www.invisiacollection.com/products/serenaseat/

**Q: As always love your ideas** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the dimensions of this shower? Does it drain well enough not to ruin the wood floor adjacent?

A: The shower is 4' by 4'. The shower floor is pitched so that the water flows to the drain. The shower door has a sweep that prevents any water from sneaking through. And, as an added bonus, that floor that looks like wood is actually tile!

**Q: WOW love your designs** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love marble, but is that safe in a senior master bath...other suggestion for a very contemporary spa feel clean look as far as what materials for walls and floors to look at
Thanks for answering, some designers just don't

A: There are porcelain tiles available that look like tile without the danger of slips and falls. I think a non slip floor should be a requirement for every bathroom. Here is an example: non slip porcelain tile that looks like marble There are also non slip coatings available to make an existing floor more slip resistant.

**Q: raised dishwasher for handicapped?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have seen an elevated dishwasher which would be great for my "age in place" kitchen remodel. The dilemma: the location of the dishwasher is next to the sink. This isn't workable if I raise the dishwasher (approx. 15 inches higher than the counter). I could put a pull-out trash bin in between the sink and dishwasher but would 18 inches, the width of the trash pull-out, be enough counter space beside the sink? And would it look strange? I could just stack the cabinets on from the raised counter without leaving any space for a backsplash. I have enough space on the other side including prep. space on an island and the long run of counter beside the stove. I have not found any pictures to guide me; this should be an ADA requirement in my way of thinking. Designers should be all over this!!

A: You could install the dishwasher in a tall cabinet as shown here.

**Q: How do they reach the microwave?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Here are two different websites that have them available:
http://www.freedomliftsystems.com/WheelchairAccessibleCounterLifts.asp
http://www.acessinc.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=10&cat=Kitchen
Also another one that has an assortment of different lifts for accessible storage
http://www.acessinc.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=10&cat=Kitchen
There are a great variety of products available to make access easier for people of all levels of ability.
