> Had our entire kitchen remodeled. We had typical 90’s honey maple that had yellowed and lots of that “Venetian” look. Nathan was able to add just the right amount of age and history to those cabinets with some distressing, some deep green paint, and a beautiful glaze. Everyone we worked with was professional. The project took the amount of time we contracted and the quality is incredible. Highly recommend.

> I have used Inspire by Color for several projects including 2 major kitchen facelifts. He never disappoints. Nathan and his crew are detail oriented and they strive for perfection. This the company to use if you are an interior designer or an ambivalent homeowner venturing into a renovation.

> I can’t say enough great things about Nathan and his crew. They do excellent work. We have worked with them on several projects and Nathan has always gone above and beyond expectations on everything he does. They do very thorough prep work and leave the job site very neat and clean everyday. They are a pleasure to work with.

> We recently had Nathan and his team paint our dark wood kitchen cabinets with an antique white distressed look and we could not be more excited about the finished product! From beginning to end, we found Nathan to be very professional, helpful, detail oriented, and someone who really cares not only about his clients, but the finished product. I would highly recommend Inspire By Color for any make-over ideas you have for your home!

**Comment from Inspire By Color:**

> Thank you so much Robin and Jeff! It was a pleasure to work with you as well!

> I can't say enough good things about Nathan Wainscott and his Inspire by Color crew! They transformed our 40 year old kitchen and laundry room cabinets into brand new ones without pulling them out and starting over. It was a big job that required stripping several coats of paint from the cabinet bases then priming, spraying coats of white lacquer, ending with a clear lacquer creating a beautiful, smooth factory finish. New shaker style doors and drawer fronts were made and sprayed with the same lacquered finish, and installed with new hardware completing the transformation.
> Nathan's attention to detail, design suggestions, client recommendations and quality of prior work (I went to see a cabinet refinish job done by Inspire by Color last year) made him the right choice to create our beautiful, new kitchen!

**★★★★★ — Nicole A, Nov. 2017**

> Nathan is a true professional. His knowledge, quality of work, and eye for color and design is outstanding. On top of that, he is just a kind, fun person to work with! He completed our kitchen renovation on-time and on budget. We are so happy with the outcome. Inspire By Color exceeded our expectations.

**Comment from Inspire By Color:**

> Thank you Nicole! You all were such a pleasure to work with and your kitchen turned out to be a very rewarding transformation!

**★★★★★ — cazenave, Dec. 2015**

> Nathan is a true artist. He takes pride in his work and will not stop until everything is perfect.
> Nathan has completed many beautiful faux painted rooms for me and most recently repainted my kitchen cabinets. We painted them black and it is truly beautiful. No one believes me when I tell them they are the original cabinets. My kitchen looks like it is new.
> Beautiful job!
> I would recommend Inspire By Color to anyone. Reasonable rates, wonderful craftsmanship and Nathan and crew even travel if necessary. I live in Maryland and he has made the trip many times for me.
> Thank you Nathan for everything. I'm sure we will get together again. There's always a room that needs your special touch!

**Comment from Inspire By Color:**

> Thank you so much for that glowing review! I always enjoy working for you! Always well worth the trip! :)

> Nathan is awesome! He is professional and is very detailed in his work. I had ideas of what I wanted to have done with the various projects he has completed for us, but was definitely open to suggestions. He came prepared with ideas and options to discuss and was able to create something better than my expectations. Highly recommend Inspire By Color to anyone looking to add an extra touch of detail to their home.

**Comment from Inspire By Color:**

> Thank you Stephanie! It has been a pleasure working with you! Love your design style and that makes it easy to develop your finishes. :)

> This guy is a magician! Nathan refinished a 15-year old kitchen that had cherry cabinets with many nicks and scratches, and lots of faded areas from sun exposure. We had a cabinet maker do some modifications to the cabinets in the kitchen, so there was also unfinished cherry wood to deal with. Nathan had the tough job of prepping and color matching old and new cherry - a job that several cabinet makers I spoke with said was extremely difficult to do. The end result was breathtaking. We ended up with a much richer finish than when the cabinets were brand new (photo attached).
> Along with the kitchen, we also upgraded our master bathroom that had white MDF cabinets. After installing granite counter tops, the white cabinets just seemed boring. In here, Nathan ordered new wood drawer/door fronts for a surprisingly nominal price, and then faux painted the MDF cabinet sides a dark cherry finish. The end result was just stunning (see the before and after pictures for yourself).
> Nathan does meticulous work. What we got for a relatively small amount of money was incredible. We couldn't recommend him highly enough!

**★★★★★ — Maria Money Interiors, Sept. 2015**

> As an interior designer, I have worked with Nathan for the past ten years on projects large & small. He is a creative color mastermind. He will create the texture of your dreams on your walls, refinish your cabinets create a brand new kitchen....if you think it, he can do it. I highly recommend him to help at your home!

## Community Q&A

**Q: What paint color is on the wall?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Cool tones always win, next to warm wood tones. Since your cabinets bring warmth, a soft blue/green would be nice on the walls. Something muted and sophisticated. Check out the Sherwin Williams color called "Sea Salt" \#SW6204

**Q: love the ceilings on this entire page.** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you for that :)

**Q: Nathan, do you know what the countertop material is and the name?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Moonlight Quartzite from Ivey Lane

**Q: what shade of lusterStone is this** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Crushed Pearl base - subsequent layers were Untinted using an array of highlight mica powders added.

**Q: PLEASE help me find the right color for my ORANGE(ish) kitchen!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I wrote a post a month or two ago trying to find the perfect white. I have come to terms with the fact that white will just not suit this house with the current kitchen. Unfortunately we don't have the budget right now to redo the kitchen, so I have to find a color that works well with this (orange) kitchen!! I absolutely hate it- nothing looks good! We have gotten numerous quotes, but we are going to paint ourselves.

Please help me with suggestions. I would prefer to use Sherwin Williams, but am open to others within that price range (I love BM but it's just too costly).

So far I have sampled SW Creamy (too white), White Duck, Greek Villa (way too white), and Panda White. Panda white is the top contender, but I am extremely uncertain- it may be too pink.

Ah!

A: The cabinets are warm, so I would suggest a cool tone. Anything else will simply be a competition in neutrals. These cards are winners in my fan deck for such cases, because they're muted but not lifeless - and very cohesive with earth tones. Think about how beautiful the blue/green patina is on copper or the mossy green lichen on trees. Colors that compliment each other live on opposite sides of the color wheel, not very unlike personalities. ;)

**Q: Paint color help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the middle of renovating our kitchen. We have grey cabinets and tomorrow will finally have our quartz countertops in a bright white. I'm struggling with paint colors. Yesterday I painted some of the walls in a very light grey and I can't decide if I like it. Any advice?

A: Continuity is key. You really have two choices:

1\. Choose a darker or lighter shade of the cabinet color, if you want the clean conservative look.

2\. Choose a color from adjacent rooms or fabrics to create color flow/continuity.

Try to avoid introducing a new color unless you plan on reflecting it in other elements, i.e. countertops, large paintings, window treatments. Each new color needs to be repeated at least 3 times, to attain balance.

If you choose an alternate color, rather than shade, make sure it is muted (grayed) like the cabinets. Any color will work, so long as it balances with existing colors in the home and has enough muted grays in it. Try Benjamin Moore's Aura color selection deck. It has many colors but any two will work together simply because the shades are balanced.

Aside: I love the Cabernet color you're painting over. It's just a bit too bold. That same color muted, would be a winner, if it balanced with other elements in the home. By default, I take tips from nature. Notice the soft garnet tone in the granite. So right with the muted grays.
