> If you're looking for a pool contractor and expect any level of professionalism, basic courtesy and decent execution, this is not it. American Heritage Pool is by far the worst contractor we've ever work with. Maggie was kind in the beginning so we contracted her company to build our pool in December with an estimated completion date of March 1st. On May 6 we had to cancel the contract due to alarming and inadequate work due to them cutting corners anywhere they could. Once they found out we were on to them, all customer service went out the door (although not much existed to begin with). On one occasion her husband Rick completely lost his temper and caused a scene yelling at my partner while he and his team were at our home and called her a dummy for asking questions. When asked why they changed the design of the pool without consulting with us they said they don't do design consultations so if they make a mistake, you just have to take what they give you. They stopped answering calls and responding to emails labeling it "harassment." Every once in a while we were able to get through to them via text. I kindly asked Maggie on multiple occasions to send us a quick text (since proper scheduling was too much for them to handle) when her crew would be coming by to do work on the pool so that we could be prepared but she never did that, not once. One morning my fiancé and I were in bed with the doors leading to the backyard open when one of her guys unexpectedly walked right by us. Zero warning! When we finally canceled our contract our pool was still only 50% complete and cracking due them pouring the gunite/concrete in two phases several days apart when it's typically done in one single pour to prevent cracks from forming overtime. While most reputable companies bring a backup gunite/concrete truck on-site on the day of the pour, American Heritage chanced it by only ordering one truck which then broke down midway through the job and was left as-is for a few days. The electrical was not done to code, the gauge of the wires and underground conduit were inadequate and smaller than they stated on the contract and what is standard and safe. They lied about passing the electrical inspection and after we obtained the job card from the city which contains every inspection done we learned that American Heritage failed to call for an inspection altogether on such a crucial part of the construction and buried their shoddy work. When the city finally came to look at it after we called for the inspection ourselves, they said the electrical work was a fire hazard. As other reviewers have mentioned, when you try to cancel a contract with them, they will threaten you with a mechanical lien against your home. They front load the payments by inflating the work on the first few phases so if you cancel you would have paid for more than what you are left with. They will send one to two guys to work on your pool every other week prolonging the process.

> We were thrilled with the job that Rick and Maggie did for us with our pool/spa in 2014. They used the best products, durable and powerful pumps, good contractors and designed a pool that was right out of our micro-sized pool and spa dreams. We had a budget and they produced a miracle for us including the desert landscaping around the pool.
>
> But perhaps just as important as the final result was the way they set too at the beginning. We had tried to work with another pool company who seemed willing and interested but then dragged their feet in producing the necessary plans to submit to our HOA Architectural Board who were having their last meeting for approvals before leaving for a couple months on summer vacation. We were only a few days away from the deadline for submission when the first company told us our pool was too small for them to bother with! But by word of mouth, Rich and Maggie came to our attention and they emailed me a plan, after some telephone conversation and looking at their site and some photos they email us, and came up with a plan that same day. We worked out a couple small changes, approved equipment and materials as well as design, and they whipped up the plans in a way that worked for the HOA and got them in with hours to spare, thus sparing us from a 2 or 3 month delay.
>
> Then Rick worked to get each stage started as soon as he could get the go-ahead. We have had the pool for 3 1/2 years now and are as happy with it as when we first plunged into it. They even recently checked it out to see how their baby was doing. Made some important adjustments to the controller and its working just like it did when they first turned it on.

> They did a great job with the installation of a new pool pump. Rick came out, assessed the pool and equipment then listened to what my goals were. We came up with a plan that worked best for me. I highly recommend American Heritage Pool Corporation.

**Comment from American Heritage Pool Corporation:**

> Thanks, Todd! We appreciate your kind words. Call us anytime we can help out.

> Hired Rick & Maggie after interviewing several other pool builders, some who had very impressive sales presentations.
> Their sales presentation was much more consultative than the others. Most came with cool designs that reflected their ideas yet Rick and Maggie sat down with me and a blank sheet of paper. We discussed what I was looking for and what my families interests were.
> From there, Rick drew by hand a design with a much different location for the pool than the others. It allowed us more space for entertaining along with a putting green. We all agreed it was by far the best, highlighting their years of experience building pools.
> After the meeting, I received a design and estimate that reflected everything we agreed upon.
> The amazing thing that has NEVER happened before was, they gave me a time frame for building the pool. THIRTY DAYS FROM THE TIME THE PERMIT WAS RECEIVED. They beat that time by six days.
> And it was all completed while I was out of town, crazy!
> They did everything they said they would, never tried to up sell me, and left the job site clean. I must say that I had them make most of the decisions that homeowners generally like to make and that makes for a better outcome. I allowed them to use their vast experience and knowledge without imposing my ignorance into the equation. Why hire an expert and not benefit from their expertise??
> Absolutely the best experience I have ever had with any type of contractor. I am still blown away by the whole thing!!
> I won't recommend the vast majority of the contractors who have worked for me yet they will get my personal recommendation every day of the week!!
> If you want more information, please contact me.

> Maggie & Rick were ver professional from start to finish. Our newly constructed home is now complete with our new pool and spa. Amazing team of experts. such a pleasure working with this team. Finished just in time for the family to enjoy while visiting our new home. They even provided cleaning pool training and equipment. Amazing! Thanks a million to American Heritage Pools. Now its time to relax while enjoying our new pool and spa.

> We used American Heritage Pool Corp.in the fall of 2013 to design and install an in-ground spa that would "waterfall" into our existing pool. Overall, they did an awesome job.
> Billed exactly to estimate, but probably about 2 weeks behind schedule if I recall correctly. Curing and tiling seemed to take a little longer than planned, but it was no real issue for us. We have had tons of compliments on it, we had no issues with their work whatsoever, mechanically or cosmetically. We worked closely with them during the design stage, and they were the ones that came up with the suggestion to build it off the corner of the pool, we had first thought it should go square at the end of the pool.
>
> There was existing blue tile edging the pool, which we were hoping to match for the spa, understanding that the existing tile was about 20 years old. After much effort, they managed to find almost an exact match from some supplier. We were shocked and amazed, and obviously very happy that they went to the trouble to do that. Others would likely have just said "no - that tile is no longer available".
> They have been really great to work with.

**★★★★★ — lisastatefarm, July 2015**

> Rick & Maggie were amazing throughout the entire process. Maggie was so good with me and my crazy schedule. They even got the pool finished faster than expected - my kids were so happy when we moved in & they could swim right away. Not only did the pool/spa look amazing - Rick & Maggie are just great people. They've helped us on a few occasions after the job and again went above & beyond.

  - Description: This yard needed some TLC when we first started. We took out all the outdated landscaping. Then we remodeled the pool by shallowing the depth, adding a tanning shelf (Baja lounge) and level spa. The client chose a beautiful white, blue and teal glass tile for the waterline, so we used a blue mini pebble for the interior. We added crisp concrete decking, a fire pit, and a multi-purpose bocce ball/horseshoe pit area.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Kenmore Elite fridge french doors do not open wide enough** *(in Appliances)*

We bought this fridge new from Sears Outlet and originally installed it in a small condo with a wall that prevented opening the right side door all the way. Now that we are in a larger home it should open fully but still does not. I cannot remove the vegetable trays for cleaning or open the bottom tray completely. The left door has a doorstop adjustment on the bottom and opens fully. The right door does not, it's a completely different hinge and I cannot find anything online showing how to make that right side door open wider. The photo points to the bump that keeps the door from going further. We are about to just cut that off with a grinder, just makes no sense that the door can't be adjusted. Any ideas? Model 795.70333.410

A: there is a little tit on the exterior of the hinge that acts as a stopper. the right door is not adjustable. poor design element.
we used a stainless steel grinder head on a dremmel to cut ours off in order to fully open the door. it was driving me crazy

**Q: Is the coping a stone/tile? If so, what is it? It’s pretty!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It's actually simply a dark grey concrete. The shine you are seeing is the sealer we applied to slow down the corrosion from the salt water.

**Q: Pool plaster** *(in Photo Questions)*

What brand and color is the pool plaster?

A: This is a Tropics Blue mini pebble.

**Q: Where can I purchase large lava rocks?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: You can find them at Whitewater Rock and Supply. Their number is 760-325-2747 and here is a link to their website: http://whitewater-rock.com/
