## Community Q&A

**Q: Help arranging furniture and should  kitchen wall stay up or down?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Is there any other way to arrange the furniture in our  16' 8" x 13' 6" familyroom (with 6 ' french door and
48" door opening to kitchen) ?  All the furniture is up against all the
walls--is that OK design wise?  Also, I would love to add built-ins on one of the walls, but it may take up too much valuable space.  I tried
the L arrangement with  the sofa along the long wall and the  loveseat back facing the kitchen wall, but it seems so squished.   Also there is the
issue of not being able to walk through.  There is also the problem of allowing for the door swing of the french door.  I am considering taking down the wall to the kitchen, but there
is also limited  room in the eating area.  We are starting to plan  a kitchen makeover, but the layout will not change much.  I will add kitchen pictures.

A: I believe you should remove the kitchen wall to open the space, making it a great transition to from living space to kitchen. Once you do that, moving the furniture in closer making it a proper use of space. Possibly removing the wall where the large sofa is making it open and giving you the room to add a larger eating area in the kitchen creating a great room.  see below

**Q: House Colours! Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a stunning 1850s Greek a revival, here in New Orleans.  We have done extensive renovations inside.  Finally, after five years, we are able to repair and refresh her outside!

We are absolutely open to anything - my husband wants to upkeep the trim colour white, but all other colours are fair game.  I would not mind going the traditional dark trim, but I do not think he is willing to go there with me.

I have read many of the discussions, and looked at houses and books for several weeks, but some good old fashioned "people" advice would be great!

Just some details:
1.) We do not want to do the same colours. Currently, the body of the house is light blue, the trim is pure white, windows are red, and shutters are dark green.  Also, the undress-eave are the traditional light blue.

2.) We are on the corner, and do not want the main body of the house the same colour as any other colour house, on the other three corners.  So that will mean, no blue, no pink/peach, and no yellow.

3.) We want to do four to five colors.  This will include the traditional light blue under-eave, white trim, and grey porch.

ALL ideas welcome, please!  And thank you!

A: I think a navy blue for the body, white on highlighted areas and light blue or green trim. I believe that it would look great.
