We have tried close to 10 different paint samples and can't to make a decision as most of them do not look like the paint chips. We want a sophisticated neutral, but not beige. We have white and black kitchen cabinets and a soft blue gray beige area rug in the living room an the kitchen and living room adjoin. The light is western and southern and loft overlooks the whole lower level. The guest bedroom is palladium blue and we need a color for master bedroom and bath. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated....we are weary!!!!! A: Also, make sure none of the previous color is coming through your newly swatched walls. Dark colors tend to find a way through and change the color. Try using 2 coats for the test spots if you are unsure if color is coming through. **Q: Can you identify this hardwood?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are buying a new home and we love the hardwood floors throughout much of the living area. We want to add the same hardwood in other rooms, but we haven't been able to identify it. Any ideas? A: I'm going with hickory (though it's stained a bit darker than the natural light color) as the white oak has a little less variation. Most good flooring companies will be able to come over and identify/match. Get an in-home consultation. **Q: Thoughts on Lowes/Costco cabs? Where are good quality cabs in No. VA?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I was recently chatting w a DIY'er about how to save money on our kitchen renovation. He said that you can get very good quality cabinets at Lowes or Costco for a great price. Our home is in an expensive area and would sell well - though we plan on living here for probably another 15+ years. We want to put good quality cabinets that will last long, and we'll enjoy. We've been getting quotes just for the cabinets of $26-40k thus far. Our kitchen is about 26'x13', but we'll only have cabs along one 13' wall, a 7' wall, plus a large island. The prices just seem insane around here. Any thoughts on L/C cabs? Any ideas where else to look for high quality, great looking and lasting cabinets that won't break our bank?? Thank you! A: Sophie, I use Pro-Source too and feel comfortable recommending it over any box store as well. By the way, I'm not sure how any of us on here are getting commission on referrals online. **Q: Master bedroom** *(in Design Dilemma)* Any advice on what I can add to finish room!! Thanks in advance A: I would recommend adding a fur or shag rug under the bed with an upholstered and tufted bench at the foot (if there is room). I also agree with adding a chandelier above the bed, though I think your current style calls for a traditional crystal baroque chandelier. A chair with a very small print (too big a print will fight the draperies) might be nice in the corner (either where I placed in the floor plan or where the plant is). 2 or 3 small pieces of art should go above the headboard (as was suggested earlier). Hopefully this helps. **Q: How to make this bedroom look nicer ??** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi, we recently moved in to our new home and I need some help sprucing up our guest bedroom. My husband doesn't want to get a new bed for in here, so I have to make this one work somehow. I would much prefer a know upholstered wing back bed, but this ten year old bed will have to do. Should I paint the wood part? Reupholster the leather part? Change the bedding? Everything in this room is 5-10 years old. I also need to find some nightstands that will look nice too. In laws are coming for a week this summer so want it to be ready for them! Thanks! A: If the space is as small as it looks, you might try using nesting tables as nightstands.
