Since 1999, Beechwood has been helping clients build their story. From unique, award-winning custom homes to purposeful renovations and additions, each project invariably begins with a client’s story - a growing family’s need for more space, an empty-nester’s desire to downsize practically, an aspiring home-chef eager to entertain in an updated kitchen, a working family desperate for a sensible mudroom and laundry to capture life at the back door.

These are the stories that get us up each day, excited and determined to bring our extensive experience in construction management and sustainable building science to our clients’ homes - and to their lives.

Beechwood partners with the areas’ finest architects, designers, and craftspeople to build the stories that our clients express to us. Mindful of budgets and schedules and aesthetics and mechanical imperatives, we combine our knowledge as Certified Green Professionals (NAHB) with up-to-date understanding of building materials and techniques to make the building process understandable, enjoyable, and successful. Our results speak for themselves in beautiful homes and lifelong friendships with clients and building partners - that’s a story we’re proud to tell!

**★★★★★ — Jerry Behm, Dec. 2020**

> Brian and team are fantastic to work with. We used them for a major (almost tear-down) remodel and couldn't be happier with the results.
> A lot of care was spent listening to our needs and creating solutions to address them. Very easy to work with and felt my interests were always top of mind. Frequent and easy communication throughout the project made sure there were no surprises.
> Overall, Beechwood is trustworthy, are of high integrity, and do quality work.

**Comment from Beechwood Building & Design:**

> Thanks for the thoughtful review, Jerry - it was a real pleasure, and a good challenge, bringing your old cottage up to our shared vision of a beautiful, efficient modern home. Your engineering acuity made for a fun and collaborative project, and Isabelle's vision on the finish was spot on !

**★★★★★ — tshelton, Oct. 2020**

> Brian and Jim have been a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Beechwood!
>
> Our project was completed ahead of schedule (in a COVID pandemic), on budget and with precision. We absolutely love the final product.
>
> The best part of working with Beechwood is the communication. They proactively communicate each week and think ahead to anticipate any upcoming problems. In my opinion, their integrity sets them apart from the competition.

**Comment from Beechwood Building & Design:**

> Thanks for the thoughtful review, tshelton - it was a pleasure seeing your vision for Haven come to life, and we were privileged to be apart of the process - we couldn't be happier with the results as well ! Brian & Jim

**★★★★★ — Michael M, Sept. 2020**

> Meticulous attention to detail and quality finishes. Top construction and materials. Stuck with original plans as much as possible to stay on course for completion, and meet requirements of the HOA and township. Worked closely with us and our independent designer. Responsive to our requests for minor changes and upgrades. Respected our budget, tastes and time constraints.

**Comment from Beechwood Building & Design:**

> Thank you, MIchael M for the kind review of our work and process! Working with you and your designer was a pleasure - a very professional process and spectacular results - a real team effort. Jim & Brian

**★★★★★ — Amanda Fort, Nov. 2016**

> Working with Beechwood was a breeze! We hired Beechwood to complete a kitchen remodel for our tiny, 1920's OWS home and had such a great experience that we followed it right up with a bathroom remodel. Beechwood was communicative, diligent, and were great problem solvers. They approached the project thoughtfully and were always considerate of the fact that we were living in the home throughout both projects. I would hire them again!

**★★★★★ — Theresa Angelini, Nov. 2016**

> Beechwood Building & Design are thoughtful, honest, professional, knowledgeable builders. Brian's business and organizational skills complement Jim's building skills. Brian is knowledgeable about energy efficiency and current building products and both care deeply about providing great service. They are a strong team and are very responsible about working within budgets and within the schedule. On the custom home we designed, they worked within a tight budget and a tight schedule and delivered the project on time within the costs projected. I highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — fourinasquared, Nov. 2016**

> I’m the owner of the “Master Suite for Berkshire Cape Cod” project, and these guys are the best. From project quote to project close, they just did everything the way it should be done. Our house is an older one, and Brian and Jim were great with dealing with the hidden surprises and solving the issues that a major addition/renovation of an 80-year old home entails. I’d also note that we have two young kids in the house, and all of Beechwood's subs were very respectful of the kids and a pleasure to interact with throughout. I grew up working in carpentry, and I’m a tough critic of both workmanship and customer experience. These guys come with my highest recommendations.

**★★★★★ — Tom H., Nov. 2016**

> Brian McLaughlin and Beechwood Builders replaced the aging siding on our home, adding insulation under the Hardiplank. We enjoyed working with Brian and all of his subcontractors. Everyone was extremely professional, friendly and hard-working. The project was completed on time and on budget and we couldn't be happier with the result. Many in the neighborhood have commented on the appearance and we're always glad to pass on Brian's contact information. If we come up with a new project, we'll definitely call him again.

**★★★★★ — Charles Budd, Nov. 2016**

> Beechwood did a great job for us and we are so happy with our home. It was essentially a teardown/rebuild, so there were lots of unexpected twists and turns that Beechwood handled with ideas, execution and keeping costs in check. Highlights of working with Beechwood:
> So happy with final product, appearance and function
> Provided lots of choices to us, not just one solution.
> Job site clean every night, Safety hazards addressed. Neighbors were watching too.
> Worked well with our decorator, lake association, township. Well-networked and respected by everyone.
> Subcontractor teams experienced, informed, polite,
> An all-around great experience for us.

**★★★★★ — Mickey Swortzl, Nov. 2016**

> Brian and team were great to work with on our addition project. Brian worked to coordinate with township, utilities and other vendors on our behalf to ensure he could provide the best possible solution. I appreciated their excellent communication throughout the project - a rarity when working with builders!

**★★★★★ — Gen Stewart, Nov. 2016**

> Working with Beechwood was a dream! Brian went way above and beyond for us as we were looking at designs. He listened to what we said and gave us great ideas. He was knowledgeable and candid and helped us every step of the way. What could have been an intimidating and frustrating process became fun and energizing. His creativity and outstanding service certainly sets Beechwood apart from other custom home builders. We LOVE our home and would not change one thing about it.

**★★★★★ — Ann Hollenbeck, Nov. 2016**

> Brian and Jim are outstanding! We had a fantastic experience building our home. It is beautiful and we love it!

**★★★★★ — Studio Z Architecture, Feb. 2014**

> As an architect, I've worked with Beechwood on two remodeling projects (so far). I have found them to be professional, capable, and concerned about our clients' well-being. They know when to call me with questions, they are very knowledgeable about green building, and they are excellent team players. I highly recommend Beechwood Building & Design!

  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 21
  - Description: The owners loved the location of their home, but the home itself didn't function very well for their family of 3. They love to cook, entertain, play music, and hang out together, but the home's small rooms and overall layout weren't conducive to these activities. To address these issues, we built a two-story addition containing a family room, dining room, and master bedroom. We also built a one-story addition to house the enlarged kitchen. The new spaces are open and filled with light.

  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI

  - Description: This is a total remodel of a home in Ann Arbor. We added a master bedroom, dining room, kitchen, and family room to the back of the house, a new second floor containing two bedrooms and a bathroom, and remodeled most of the rest of the interior. The scale of the house, as viewed from the street, didn't change significantly, allowing the home to still fit into the 1040s neighborhood. This home is featured in an ideabook here on Houzz: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/19481561/list/One-Big-Happy-Exp…

  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI

  - Description: This 1940s Cape Cod style home got a major overhaul. It nearly doubled in square footage as it went from 3 bedrooms and just one bathroom, to 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. A brand new master suite and open kitchen/dining room/family room are the highlights of this project. The homeowners love to entertain in their new, very modern home.
- [Geddes Ravine Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/geddes-ravine-residence-pj-vj~2118659)
  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: The Geddes Ravine Residence tells a great story about family - as the new house rests on property divided from the owner’s parents’ home, allowing three generations to live in close proximity. The kitchen, dining room, living room, and lower family room all provide spaces to gather. The east deck parallel to the living room cantilevers toward the ravine, providing an opportunity to enjoy the serene view of woods and play areas from past childhoods, and inviting new adventures to be explored. The…

  - Location: Dexter, MI
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The Preserve at the Woods Edge home is a story all about a young, growing family in need of more space to live and play. The owners brought us a handsome design by VanBrouck & Associates, with inspirations from the great lakefront houses of northern Michigan. Classic cedar shake accents, perfectly placed corbels, and two beautifully-crafted copper cupolas draw you into this warm, inviting home after a long day at work and school. A robust plan for the insulation, geothermal heating, LED lighting…

  - Location: Ann Arbor, MI
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: Our clients' charming Cape Cod had almost everything their family needs (thanks to a series of thoughtfully-designed previous renovations), except a master suite to retreat to at the end of a busy day. A second story addition solved that, and added an adjacent sitting room and screened porch below. The clean, contemporary styling and big new windows facing the private backyard complete this chapter...we hear an updated kitchen may the final chapter to this story!
