> Gina was excellent at follow-through. She stayed on our project until it was done to our satisfaction. She listened to us and then came up with a plan that matched our needs. She is flexible and modified her ideas per our requests. She helped us plan to maintain our plants. She has good ideas on irrigation and trimming and everything else that goes into long time care of our landscape. She immediately replaced and changed any plants that didn't work out.

**★★★★★ — Vince Ventura, Oct. 2023**

> Gina was a pleasure to work with. She made the most of our limited space. We love entertaining outside. All of our friends love our yard as well. We feel so much at home and enjoying our new landscape every day. With the design this will be year round enjoyment. Thank you Gina.

**★★★★★ — Ray Brizgys, Jan. 2023**

> Just in Thyme professionally landscaped our Los Gatos home. The gardens matured to a most colorful rotating palate and variety. The curb appeal was off the charts and we received many compliments. Care was taken in plant selection and drip irrigation which helped in decreasing our water consumption. Gina is to be highly recommended.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Ray! It was such a pleasure working with you and Deborah. The project was definitely a joint effort and turned out beautifully! While I was sad to hear you were moving, I'm so pleased that the landscape helped sell it quickly & profitably! Good luck in your new home!

> We really enjoyed working with Gina this last spring/summer and now have a terrific front yard thanks to her creativity, diligence, and positive prodding. She worked with us on defining a palette of plants and her deep knowledge of native plants was super helpful in replacing all the landscaping in our front yard. We learned about the different characteristics of plants beyond just sun and shade and Gina ensured that our design took into account aroma and blooming seasons. Perhaps even just as important as all the design work, she helped us find a contractor and then worked directly with him and his crew to create the new landscape. We could not have pulled this off without her professionalism, design skills, and attention to detail.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Una & Ken, Thank you so much for asking me to work with you on your re-design! You were wonderful to work with as well! I'm so happy that you love your front yard now!

**★★★★ — Loubna B, Feb. 2021**

> We worked with Gina about 4 years ago and this review is long overdue. The experience was really good; 4 years later we still happy with our backyard. Here's where Gina nailed it:
>
> \- Good Planning: planning took about 2 months, Gina provided her sketches based on our descriptions. She met with us many times to understand the style we were looking for (Mediterranean/Lebanese village), and she took our feedback and was open to tweaking the designs based on that.
> \- Great knowledge of the flora: based on our wants, Gina suggested plants and fruit trees that were mediterranean, and were disease and drought resistant. She also took the time to go with me twice to nurseries to take a look at the plants and then purchased them from other providers at a better price (she went above and beyond to find us an old fruitless olive tree, and played as a mediator between me and my partner, so we wouldn't kill each other during the process :).
> \- Picking the material: Gina accompanied me to stone providers to pick the material for our backyard, showing me different options that would fit our budget; she accommodated last minute changes to the gate option (metal circle instead), adding an area for a chicken coup ...
> \- She had a resources of great contractors (Solid Rock) that were extremely professional (the guy that laid out the retainer wall and the beautiful stone patio was an artist).
> \- Follow up visits: Gina conducted follow up visits, 3 months and one year after the project was done, she checked on the plants and provided tips and potential resources that we can use to maintain backyard.
>
> Here's some room for improvement:
> Cost estimate: Gina's service cost was reasonable (design, sketching, plant selection, visits) however once we started the execution, we switched to more expensive material (natural stone, cedar wood …) and that through us of budget and wasn’t accounted for originally. I wish Gina pointed that out while picking the material.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Loubna for taking the time after all these years for your detailed review ! I truly enjoyed working with you on the design & construction of your lovely yard. You helped stretch my knowledge & creativity as we worked on combining old world Lebanese and modern styles! Thank you for suggesting more communication regarding the effect of your material choices on the project cost. You definitely picked uniquely beautiful materials that challenged even the masters at Solid Rock in working with them and as I can see from your photos, they really stand out & have passed the test of time. The giant tree house was another unusual element in your yard that added whimsy & challenge and I trust your girls have made wonderful memories up there playing under the star lights! I've added photos of the wall we created in your flat back yard to raise up the olive & one of the fire pit.

**★★★★★ — Glenda Buck, June 2020**

> We love our backyard that Gina designed! She was very easy and fun to work with! Her knowledge of plants was extensive and had lots of good ideas for a beautiful palette of color for our yard. She also designed a unique and classy pergola with shade cloth and all the hardscape for the yard which gave us much more usable space for most seasons. The patio Included heaters, fan, and lighting. She has followed up with us several times even long after the project was finished. We appreciate all her hard work and professionalism! Thanks Gina!!

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Glenda! Is was such a pleasure working with you & Jon! You made it easy to create a beautiful yard with unique materials that coordinated with your beautifully remodeled interior. Finding just the right Travertine with lots of color variation was fun & keeping the large wrap around pergola simple & elegant really helps set it off and keep you both cool & warm... even though we gave Solid Rock Landscapes a challenge in building it!

**★★★★★ — Mark Evashenk, March 2020**

> Our project was new landscape and planting ie no need to change the hardscape.
>
> Gina really listened to what we wanted e.g. low maintenance. Also Gina selected plants that would show off color or flowers throughout the year so that we didn't have a splash of color for a few months and then nothing.
>
> Part of her process is to meet at a nursery so we could see what she was planning to plant. That was helpful to understand color, size and texture.
>
> Gina drew up detailed project plans with detailed planting guide. She also provided a picture board for all the plants.
>
> Gina suggested contractors for the installation. Gina met with the contractor and us to review the job and helped us select our contractor. Gina continued to meet with the contractor to monitor the work.
>
> As part of her project, Gina returned 3 months after completion to check on the health of the plants. She gave us a pruning tutorial.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Mark! It was great to work with you and Tori too! I loved seeing how the plantings had filled in when I came for your year review and how the many little decisions have come together to keep you enjoying your yard throughout the year, especially during this stay-at-home year!

**★★★★★ — Latha Colby, March 2018**

> Gina is absolutely wonderful to work with. She designed and managed a complete backyard remodel for my house. She came up with a unique design that includes innovative solutions to some tricky problems. Gina then helped select a contractor for the project and worked closely with them throughout the project. The end result is a lovely, relaxing backyard complete with a dining area under a beautiful arbor, lounge area and water feature.
>
> Gina is very knowledgeable about all aspects of landscaping. She works very hard to achieve the desired goals. She is friendly, extremely responsive and communicates clearly. I am very happy with the results and highly recommend Gina for your landscaping needs.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you Latha for your thoughtful review. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to work with you on your back yard project. I can't wait to see the plants fill in, Spencer's dog house in place, and you relaxing by your fire pit and water feature!

**★★★★★ — Grace, Feb. 2018**

> Gina is amazing! She helped transform our patio from a dull space that we never used to an oasis of tranquility that we get to enjoy every day--firepit and water feature included! Gina was able to come up with a design plan that totally captured our vision. She guided the project from start to finish, working closely with the contractor and advocating on our behalf. I love how Gina thinks outside the box to come up with clever solutions to design problems--I'm amazed that she managed to fit a hammock in our space without making it feel crowded. Gina is the ultimate professional, reliable and talented. It's been such a pleasure working with her.

**Comment from Just in Thyme Landscape Design:**

> Thank you so much for your thoughtful & detailed review! It was an equally wonderful experience working with you. I'm so glad that you are relaxing in your back yard "oasis" every day now! I can't wait to see how it has filled in especially when it starts perking up with spring growth & Juan is lying in his hammock!

**★★★★★ — Frank & Bev Swanson, Feb. 2018**

> In 2016 Gina designed the upgrade to our front, back and side yard landscaping including a new driveway, front walkway and backyard patio to complement our newly remodeled house. She listened carefully to our vision for a low maintenance, low water solution to replace our old lawns and hodgepodge of shrubbery, plus add some elegance to our driveway, walkways and patio area. She provided us with a creative detailed plan for the new hardscape and plant and tree selections that met our needs and the Santa Clara Valley Water District criteria for their water rebate. Gina has a superb knowledge of plants and trees as well as hardscape alternatives, plus the creativity and skill for putting them all together into a cohesive plan. She helped us select a contractor to implement the plan, and then actively worked with them throughout the project from beginning to end. She regularly stops by even now to check on the plants and trees, and to advise us regarding their pruning and fertilizing. We are most pleased with the results of Gina’s work to transform our old outside look into a beautiful and thriving garden. We applaud her dedication, dependability and skills as a landscape architect and designer, and highly recommend her for your re-landscaping design needs.

**★★★★★ — Joan McGrath, Aug. 2017**

> I would highly recommend Gina as a landscape designer. She has an amazing knowledge of plants and a great eye for color and detail. She is a pleasure to work with and fun to have around. I am also very impressed with her follow up after my project was completed. She stops by every now and then to check on the plants and makes recommendations when necessary. I now have a beautiful garden that I enjoy every day thanks to Gina.

**★★★★★ — Lorraine Kreft, Aug. 2017**

> Gina worked for us in 2016 landscaping our front yard and in 2017 landscaping our
> back yard. We are very pleased with her work. She listens carefully to what you are
> looking for and achieves it beautifully. She is extremely knowledgeable regarding the variety of
> plants and trees available for the project. We would highly recommend her for your landscaping needs.

The fire can be plumbed in with gas and ready with the turn of a key or can be powered by a propane tank tucked under a side table. Either way, your evening can extend comfortably until it's time for bed! We strove to create privacy with a combination of fast-growing trees & shrubs as well as slower-growing long-living trees. A Tipuana Tipu tree will eventually help provide shade for the artificial grass putting green, bench & deck and vines over an arbor-covered swing will shade the spectators. We enlarged the primary patio outside the kitchen & added discrete heaters over their dining area, an outdoor kitchen with bar area looking out into the yard, and a separate sitting area. A custom water feature can be seen from the kitchen windows. To meet the needs of the client, we fused several styles including the gorgeous Cape Cod house, the modern counter top & fountain, and the traditional brick and Connecticut bluestone. A…

  - Description: The big beautiful Redwoods gave this yard a woodland feel so instead of a fountain or urn, we suggested a natural-looking 26' long stream with a fall near the new deck off the bedroom and another one near the main patio. This water feature really makes the yard unique & provides a focal point and tranquil sound wherever you happen to be relaxing - the fire pit, the patio, the deck, or the veggie garden. - Description: After almost 50 years, the owners decided to upgrade their landscaping to highlight their remodeled house. The gophers & weeds had taken over their yard & the concrete had cracked. They wanted a traditional, elegant look with some 'pizazz,' low water, low maintenance plants instead of their old lawn, and a durable yet nice-looking solution for their driveway. The new walkway connects the front door to the sidewalk and to the new paver driveway so visitors no longer have to squeeze by the cars. T…

  - Description: The owner of this new modern house did not want a typical modern landscape nor a cottage garden. We strove for something in between – a drought-compatible palette of grasses, perennials, trees & shrubs with a limited color palette of purple and orange flowers but a variety of leaf textures & colors. The Ipe deck allows the family to walk straight out their large accordion glass doors at the same level as their family room while the concrete pool decking provides a cool, durable solution for spla…

  - Description: The owners had been battling gophers, deer, drainage issues, drought, and hard, rocky soil for years. They decided to eliminate their entire front lawn & add a pond-less water fountain as a focal point. I strove to provide year-round interest by adding evergreen trees and shrubs to their mostly deciduous & perennial existing plants & a variety of plants that flower at different times of the year. - Description: This yard had not been landscaped in almost 40 years so we left only the best of the overgrown shrubs and trees. Because of the cool climate and busy schedules, the client's priority was to enjoy the natural beauty through the windows and at night. - Description: This retired couple wanted a traditional, tidy, low maintenance, but naturalistic style front yard with Mediterranean & lower-water plants. They favored space between their plants, flowers in pinks, blues and purple and burgundy leaves. The goal was to add various usable "rooms," use less water but add plenty of fruit trees & planting areas for vegetables, hide the retaining wall & make the whole yard more aesthetically pleasing. The elevation change of the retaining wall helped us create a natural-looking stream with 2 waterfalls, one facing a new dining area patio, one near the fire pit's built-in stone seat wall. - Description: This Willow Glen victorian has no back yard so we turned their driveway into a private, verdant outdoor room. The client wanted to look from her dining room table inside those glass doors and see lots of green. They had a budget of under $10K so we needed a lot of bang for our buck. We lined the steps with large planters and stuffed them, put an arched trellis across the base of the steps with vines climbing up both sides and put a focal potted plant in front of the fence. They wanted a natural-looking, lush yard with a dining area, sitting area, & room for a hammack & fruit trees. We squeezed it all in & it still feels more open & spacious. - Description: A retired client wanted to jazz up the entrance to her home but leave the orchard, veggie beds and hardscape the way it was. Since she does all the maintenance herself, I wanted to make sure she wouldn't have too many weeds so we used the winter months to sheet mulch the area, killing the massive amount of existing weeds & enriching the hard soil. This worked beautifully. We added a flagstone pathway with Dymondia between the stones and a small area for her new bench to sit and enjoy the garden.…

## Community Q&A

**Q: what materials (wood) was used?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I have an existing one in my yard and am looking to replace

A: Thank you for your interest in this trellis. It was custom built in Redwood.

**Q: Beautiful!** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'm curious what the low-growing plant is with the brilliant blue-purple blooms. Also, what are the two plants (one on the far right of the photo and a smaller one in the center)? They look like they may be a variety of Senecio. We live in Zone 9a north of Houston, so I doubt either would work for us, but just in case... Thanks! Mark

A: Senecio cylindricus

**Q: Awesome pergola** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you happen to have the plans or where to purchase plans for the pergola?

A: Hi @Docdojo, Sorry but this is a custom made pergola. The swing hanging from it can be purchased from Wayfair, Amazon, ThePorchSwingCompany and HomeDepot, among other places. Good luck!
