Gary Hutton is a son of California who is often referred to as the “Dean of West Coast Design”.  Formally trained in studio arts at UC Davis under the tutelage of Wayne Thiebaud and later in interior design at California College of the Arts, his small, artful practice creates relevant, trendsetting custom interiors coveted by tastemakers in many fields and by clients in search of curated living. In 1986, Hutton launched The Gary Hutton Furniture Collection to worldwide acclaim. Noted art collector Chara Schreyer is a long-time client, and their collaborations form the basis for the 2016 best-selling book “Art House” by Alosa Carroll with photographs by Matthew Millman. Hutton’s down-home roots and love of popular culture, contrasted with the love of glamour and beauty is the dichotomy that profoundly informs his work.

We worked along side one another at the DIFFA Dining By Design event a few years ago, where he created one of the most beautiful and interesting environments in that show, and any of the DbyD events.  He's a great mentor, he's hilarious, he's one of the most well versed people I've ever met on design history, enormously detail oriented, and a true visionary.  If I weren't a designer myself I would hire him in a heartbeat to design a home for me.

**Q: Where could I get the railing?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you be able to give me the website or any info for the railing?

A: Wish I could.  This railing was already existing in the unit when my clients bought it.  We just painted it white.

**Q: Can you share the source of the lovely cabinet?** *(in Photo Questions)*

It’s perfect!

A: Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the compliment!  I designed the cabinet for these clients, in the manner of Jean Michel Frank.  It is lacquered parchment with pulls and legs in patinated bronze.  The interior is sycamore wood.  Another, or a variation could be made, but this was done about 5 years ago so in all honesty I do not know what that might cost these days.  If you are interested in pursuing this let me know a size, roughly, and my staff can look into that for you.

**Q: I love this mirror** *(in Photo Questions)*

where can i get this mirror and how much

A: This "mirror" is actually a piece of mirror polished stainless steel, and was custom made for this client.  A band of perforations about 2" wide make up the "frame" there are about 1200 perforations.  fiber optic cables were inserted into each hole and then the bundle of cables attached to an illuminator which is in an adjacent closet.  It was a huge task making it.  Best Regards,

Also what stain?

A: The walls are re-sawn redwood,  They were stained with a custom mixed semi-transparent stain with a mat finish

What is the price of this pair? Thanks!

A: The list price on the Facet 5 Table with any color crystal top is $7150. each.  They are made to order and take about 12 weeks to get FOB San Francisco, Ca.

What color is the ceiling and the walls?

A: The walls and ceiling of this area were done with a custom mixes semi transparent stain on raw wood.  As I recall it was a mixture of white stain and grey stain.  It was not a ready mixed color.  I'm sorry I can't be more specific.
