**Q: Adding storage to kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have an open kitchen alongside the living room. It was newly remodeled kitchen with quartz counter top and cherry wood cabinets when we bought. But now after we moved in, we are running low on storage space, actually very low and were wondering how can we increase the storage space in the kitchen or in the dinning area. Any/All suggestions are appreciated.

A: Having already spent money on the kitchen the obvious thing to do is utilize the wall space in the dining area, go from wall to wall. probably a pantry and bar area combination. it can also be used like a buffet area also this will give you the feeling it was planned that way and it will look great.
Just pull the dining table forward a bit you wont fell the loss of space.

**Q: Narrow Bathroom - Need help with Design/Layout** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a narrow (6') but long (13') bathroom that I want to include the following features in: separate tub and shower, heated towel bar (will connected to my hot water heating and replace the floor radiator), 36" minimum width vanity, toilet, and linen closet (some of the space of the walk-in closet could be cannibalized for this purpose). I don't know if I need a full 60" wide closet for it still to be a comfortable walk-in, but I'm not sure. If the closet could still maintain its functionality at 54" wide, then that extra 6" could be utilized to widen the bathroom. Thoughts on this to gain some space? Would like the bathroom to have a "spa-like" feel, in spite of the space constraints. I've attached a sketch with the dimensions and locations of window and door. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

**Q: Living room help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a large living room with 5 walls, 2 have large cutouts looking into other rooms. I have no idea what to do with this last odd space. The odd space is to the right of the chaise lounge. The middle two pictures are the area I'm talking about. I have included the other part of the room too. Ideas?

A: Firstly where you have the big open spaces i would shelve this area. Not sure whats in the other rooms but you could use it for decorative pieces that express who you are or books, giving you additional storage. If one of the openings looks into the kitchen you could put cabinets there also for additional storage if needed. Once you do that you can decorate accordingly. in front of the openings you could put a small table and chair set for cards or a hobby work area.

**Q: Proper etiquette when asking builders for a bid?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

When seeking out 2 or 3 bids on a unique plan to build a house, mostly drawn but not ready for the permit stage, how many builders is it appropriate to ask for a bid at once?  I live in a tight-knit community and I am concerned that builders might not put too much diligence toward putting together a bid if they know I am not committed to them in getting my project into budget.

A: I agree with Deborah on that point, 3D takes time if you are willing to pay extra for it.its more important to nail down all the plans and changes first and finish the engineering before worrying about the 3D.Some software does do plans and 3D in one but not always.

**Q: Please Help!!! Stain or Paint Kitchen Cabinets?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please help! I moved into my boyfriend's house about a year ago and I am (slowly) putting a "woman's touch" on the house. 
As you will see in some of my before and after pictures I will post later, the house was very bare and white. The previous owners of the home updated the kitchen before he bought the house, and while the finishes are nice, they are not our style. We are working with a tight budget since we are spending money in other parts of the house that need it more, but I am thinking I would like to paint the cabinets and the walls and add a backsplash sometime soon (can't afford new countertops). The problem I see is the granite. Its a gold/rose/black/brown combination that, I feel, limits our choices for colors. Please help me with some ideas about what we can do. Our home is a combination of rustic, contemporary, and traditional. I love a white kitchen, my boyfriend prefers black, but I am not sure what to do. I love the look of the 2-tone cabinets (one color on the bottom and another on top) but I am still stumped. The colors we have in the adjacent living room and dining room are tans, grays, whites, mustard yellow, and a deep blue. I am open to all suggestions!

A: This is a nice kitchen, i tend to agree with these guys, a nice back splash would be very effective.

**Q: What would you do to update this tiny half bath?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

It's so small you can pretty much wash your hands while you pee. Won't be doing anything to the granite floor or replacing the toilet at this time. Trying to decide if we should replace cabinet or just refinish with stain or paint and definitely want to do something with the counter, sink and mirror. What color granite counter would you recommend with his floor and what would you do with the cabinet? There are plumbing pipes coming out of both sides of the wall into the cabinet.

A: The key to a small space is to not let it look cluttered. I would definitely go with a cool looking pedestal or wall hung sink. I am not sure if your floors are done under the sink, but if not that's the way to go. Tile the wall behind it for effect. Use a mirror that fills the wall will make the bathroom look bigger also.
