A week later Chris returned with plans and that were entirely different from our design. These plans were unacceptable and Chris refused to return our deposit. We took the loss of over $6,000 and later hired another contractor to complete the design as specified for the same cost Kehoe contracted with us. Chris drew up three proposals-one for a new deck, one for siding and windows and one for a finished basement. New gutters were installed and drainage away from the foundation was improved. The outside fireplace chimney was re-stuccoed and the foundation was refaced. Outside work was completed with new walkways and a block patio under the deck. New landscaping enhanced the completed outdoor renovations. > The finished basement work included dividing the space into a laundry/utility area, a large walk in closet, a half bath and family room. Given the elevation, size and scaffolding requirements, the job was on the complex side relative to other deck re-builds. Chris and his team were incredible professional, easy to work with and detail oriented. During the bidding phase of the project, Chris was extremely thorough and thoughtful about material section, quality and project related trade offs (use of composite vs real wood, deck drainage system, etc). Chris was on site for virtually the entire job, overseeing every phase of the construction. The Kehoe team did a great job on the deck and Chris identified some important design changes that improved the functionality and added to our usable space. I can't say enough about the quality of the work and how happy we are with the deck. A: We used Island Oak from from the Timbertech Azek line. It has been discontinued, but there are other excellent options. **Q: Love the flooring. Corner lot. What do you guys think about an ivory/white brick? Too much house for something so bright? If not, what color do you suggest? I want something transitional but realistic! A: Looks like you will be building a nice home. There is currently a bit too much going on with the finish materials. You could do all brick. But I would also entertain leaving the right side as is and then just leaving the rest of the house with the water table band. It is a nice accent. Then simplify some of the other details, like do away with the shakes just use the clapboard siding with good trim details. We would also remove the metal roofing from the upper most roof areas. Simple and clean usually speaks the loudest. **Q: Yes or No? Thoughts on 1948 Cape...Remove asbestos siding?** *(in Polls)* Hello- After the passing of my father-in-law, we are going to move back into my husband's childhood home. What are the minimum improvements that should be made to this asbestos sided home? Removal of the original siding? Cover it up with new siding? How much should we expect to pay to replace roof, new siding, windows and deck? All feedback welcome. A: We never advocate for covering things up. It is always best to do things the right way. This is better for the home and the homeowner! By removing all the old materials you can also assess the structure. Then if needed you may make repairs or upgrades. To get a sense of the investment you may need take a look at the "Cost vs. Value" report. This is not to give you an exact but will give you an average cost.
