**★★★★★ — David Zimand, Jan. 2026**

> When we started planning our kitchen remodel, we heard many people's horror stories. Our experience was NOTHING like that. Every single step along the way proceeded smoothly, and every member of the team was great, from Kurt initial visit, through Jordan's setting this up, and on from there. We joked that Alyssa, our designer, knew our taste better than we did. She was thoughtful, responsive, and as pleasant to work with as could be. Stacey oversaw the whole project beautifully, anticipating, checking in, keeping us up-to-date, all with a kind demeanor. Tim was a steady presence as the superintendent of the project. Always kind, always steady, always dependable and responsive. Every subcontractor Harjo brought in to do work did a terrific job. We are enthusiastic fans, and we love our new kitchen, dedicated to the memory of my mom (a facet of the whole project that the Harjo team honored very thoughtfully).

**Comment from Harjo Construction:**

> David, your kind words made their way around our office today. Thank you for recognizing so many members of the team, from design to project management to our trade partners. It was an honor to have Alyssa, Stacey, Tim, and the rest of the crew be part of your project.

> It was truly special to help bring your kitchen to life, especially knowing how meaningful it is to your family. We’re so grateful you trusted us with it.

**★★★★★ — Smith Jammes Interiors, May 2019**

> Kurt and the team at Harjo were a pleasure to work with. We came to them with a full-condo remodel project, including a kitchen and two baths, about 1,100 sq. feet. The entire team was excellent--from Linda the project manager, who provided weekly, detailed updates, to Andrew the lead carpenter who did top-notch work. And, best of all, the project came in on-budget and on time! I highly recommend Harjo.

**★★★★★ — Gant Nychay Architecture, March 2019**

> Harjo Construction has been great to work with! We've recommended them many times for our projects. Our clients have appreciated Kurt for his attention to detail and the quality of his work

**★★★★★ — Nathaniel Grant, Oct. 2017**

> Kurt and team are top notch contractor professionals. Kurt gave us the details and confidence that we could hit our budget goals and keep costs on track for our complex project. The project management and quality of craftsmanship was clear. I would highly recommend Harjo to anyone and will be looking them up for future construction projects.

**★★★★★ — Brett Mavis Apt, LLC, Jan. 2017**

> I hired Harjo Construction to do a completely new exterior (all new siding and windows) on my seven unit apartment building in Wallingford, and they did an absolutely fantastic job. I was nervous going into it, worried about the impact to my tenants and complications managing tenants through the process. But Harjo has a lot of experience working directly with tenants. It was super convenient for my property manager and I, and they handled it beautifully. I was also nervous about having the building envelope open during weather, but Harjo had a plan and executed it went well. They kept the building dry, and even did some urgent late night and weekend adjustments during rainstorms. Their communication skills were flawless, and they managed the timeline and budget perfectly. They were responsive and I always felt well informed. They also had to deal with a few frustrated neighbors and tenants at a few points and managed it efficiently and professionally. Overall, Harjo demonstrated professionalism every step of the way, and I would love to work with them again.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Sheffield, Jan. 2017**

> Harjo Construction did a great job upgrading our apartment complex. They were on top of scheduling with the tenants and work really well with the most difficult ones. I would highly recommend Kurt and his team.

**★★★★★ — Brad Slatton, Jan. 2017**

> Kurt and his team did a great job on our downstairs remodel. Very professional and were able to adapt to difficult challenges unique to our property. Communicated any issues in real time and kept us up to date on progress via weekly meetings. Extremely organized and would recommend for any type of construction.

 - Description: This 1915 bungalow previously had a cramped low-ceiling basement with an exterior entrance. For this remodel we excavated the basement floor by two feet and increased the window sizes. The basement was gutted and reconfigured to provide an open concept entertainment space. By extending the back of the house we created an additional main floor bedroom and expanded bathroom, which allowed for an interior staircase to connect the all-new basement with bedroom, bathroom, laundry, bar, lounge and din…

The second floor has a light-filled, loft bedroom and bathroom with natural light from two skylights and two staircase windows.

 - Description: This 1901 Green Lake farmhouse was in sore need of modernization. The top-floor work entailed expanding the second floor to include a new bedroom, bathroom and laundry area, and building out a master suite bathroom and custom closet. Upstairs you’ll also a find a new deck to take in the morning light and views of Green Lake. The main floor work included enclosing an outdoor entrance to the basement to create a seamless interior to basement flow with a new porch and new entry point. Finally, the…

 - Description: This Magnolia kitchen was suffering from poor-quality materials and a layout that left much to be desired. To optimize storage capacity the layout was altered by changing the location of the back door to allow for a pantry wall. The expansive use of chevron mosaic tile, the Pental Avenza countertops with an eat-in kitchen overhang and waterfall edge, as well as all new appliances and lighting, make this one of our favorite kitchens. Cabinet layout designed by Harjo Construction and built by Dura…

 - Description: This kitchen remodel of a Ballard Craftsman was part of a whole house remodel and restoration. The kitchen layout was redesigned to add much needed working space and cabinetry with a walk-in pantry. The Soapstone countertops and backsplash are a beautiful frame for the Carrara marble-topped island with antique pendants overhead. The custom cabinets are finished with Farrow and Ball paint and aged brass pulls. A mudroom with built-in storage was added to the back of the house for a better transit…

 - Description: Shortly after purchasing their home the clients knew they wanted to renovate the kitchen and sunroom. The kitchen was completely remodeled, and the back sunroom was partitioned into two spaces: a kitchen-adjacent den, and a mudroom that provides a layout and storage that is a pleasure to come home to. Numerous new windows enhanced the new aesthetic created by interior designer Emily Lauderback, which included a kitchen backsplash made up of two tiles, a 12x24 grey porcelain and a 12x12 deco acce…

 - Description: The homeowners of this 1928 pre-war home wanted to improve and modernize the functionality of their kitchen and dining, but still preserve the home’s classic style. The kitchen was reconfigured to move the stove to the same side as the sink, improving workspace efficiency while making room for additional cabinetry. The former galley kitchen is now anchored by a Myrtlewood butcher block peninsula that provides more workspace and a casual dining option. An older, smaller addition was replaced by a…

 - Location: Seattle, WA
 - Photos: 6
 - Description: The homeowners wanted their basement to serve several purposes: as an entertaining space, guest quarters, and potentially as an Airbnb down the road, to take advantage of the basement’s private entrance. Challenges included an uneven basement floor and the need to replumb the entire house. Another challenge – which had its rewards once installed – was transporting a 300-pound vintage commercial freezer door that serves as the door to the wine room. Now the more than 1,000 square foot basement se…

 - Description: The homeowners of this 1916 Craftsman wanted a more efficiently designed kitchen and open concept living. To help achieve this we removed the fireplace and chimney and rerouted the basement stairs by moving them from inside the kitchen to alongside it. The kitchen layout was expanded from an L-shape to a U-shape giving the family twice the number of cabinets, more countertop space, and a pantry and built-in bench seating for eat-in kitchen dining. To gain additional interior space the existing f…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Shower Tile-Like the Size!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What size subway tile was used in the shower?

A: Hello, this is a Daltile 4" x 12" glazed ceramic subway wall tile.

**Q: What is the tile used for the backsplash/walls?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looking for information on white tiles in this kitchen

A: Hello,

The backsplash tile's finish does deliver a high impact. It is a 3" x 12" glazed ceramic tile: Daltile Artigiano Italian Alps AR93. You can view more information about it here: https://www.daltile.com/product/Artigiano. Let us know if we can further help you.

Linda

**Q: vanity source info** *(in Photo Questions)*

I know you stated the vanity was hand carved in Morocco, I am wondering if there is a website or a source info you can share.

A: Hi Becky,
Fortunately the Moroccan furniture company has a distribution and sales office in San Francisco. The company is TAZI Designs at https://www.tazidesigns.com/. Happy shopping!
Linda

**Q: Rough idea of how much this remodel and addition cost?** *(in Photo Questions)*

?

A: Cassie, I should have added that the estimate is before Seattle sales tax.

**Q: Where is this door from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love this little kitchen! Can you tell me where the door is from? What size is it? Thank you!

A: Hello,

I agree with you! This door is especially charming because it is a Dutch door. We purchased the door from Frank Lumber in Seattle, custom sized for the house. A good resource that can point you in the direction of a local dealer is the Simpson Door Company. You'll see a lot of Dutch door options on their website: https://www.simpsondoor.com/door-idea-gallery/?doorTypeID=dutch-door-designs. To find a dealer, click on "Where to Buy" in the website header. A dealer can offer Simpson doors as wells as a variety of other door suppliers.

Thanks, Linda

**Q: What is the wall tile? in the shower? Gorgeous!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Patti, this shower wall tile is one of my favorites as well. It's from the Virtue line by Emser Tile. Sorry for the delay in responding, we don't receive an alert when someone has asked a question.
